Both men's only defeats came against top p4p guys, of which their is no shame (although their performance in said fights left a lot to be desired)
I have no doubt that Walters will be back at the top level after a couple confidence boosting wins.
Povetkins reputation is more damaged due to the failed tests, but with a bit of maneuvering from his promoter (and hopefully a clear test or two) he can remain part of the heavyweight mix.
Whose career is more damaged: Walters or Povetkin?

Walters because his comments after the fight. TR will no longer work with him. With no big promoter. Its chance he might not be on US TV again. Povetkin has backing from the Rybinski and the WBC. He will be back.

Povetkin has far more public and promotional support than Walters does. I'm sure he can still get decent fights at home, and it'd hardly be a shock if he popped up near the top of another set of ABC rankings (does he even need to be contending for titles as long as he's delivering KTFOs for the home crowd? He can still top cards in which other Russians fight for belts).
Walters is 8 years younger and probably has more time left, but I think his showing damaged his career more than Pov's tests damaged his.

Ortiz quit and 2 years later he was in boxing's biggest fight.
Povetkin failed PED tests in back to back title fights.
I know it might be some US bullshit,
but the "fact" remains he failed twice cancelling "title" fights.
Thinking Walters has a better chance,
but then again, there are some rabid Povetkin fans for some reason.

And the fact that Povetkin is still relevant tells you the answer that despite all this he's more relevant at heavyweight than Walters is to Featherweights.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Ortiz quit and 2 years later he was in boxing's biggest fight.

He didn't fail any PED tests... He was targeted by a corrupt VADA who wants to destroy Eastern Europe as venues for important Heavyweight Championship Fights... This all happened because Ryabinsky outbid US promoters for the Povetkin-Wilder fight... The next thing you know, VADA accuses Povetkin of "adverse" positive test for Meldonium which was total BS and they were forced to retract the accusations.. which they did so extremely grudgingly because those criminals are extremely arrogant and defiant.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:Ortiz quit and 2 years later he was in boxing's biggest fight.

The next thing you know Stiverne tests positive and Povetkin says he's okay with the finding... He just wants to the fight to happen... All his tests pass until hours before the fight VADA again releases a media burst that he's positive for a PED,, This time for an allowable trace amount of ostarine... It's total BS again but it destroys another Russian promoted Heavyweight Championship Fight and preserves America's only Heavyweight Champion again so he can keep fighting 2nd raters... I hope VADA and their schemes are busted and Conte goes to prison again -- along with other cohorts populating VADA.
Re: Whose career is more damaged: Walters or Povetkin?
Walters is a great fighter and eventually he will get fights... He just needs to accept a lot less money and fight 2nd raters for a while..
There's one Hell of a lot of 130-pounders who Walters can beat the crap out of... It's not just this fight... Walters was robbed in his previous fight with a BS draw -- and couldn't get another fight until agreeing to this one.. So he doesn't have fabulous backing to begin with -- and this is a guy who shlttcanned Nonito Donaire in an extremely exciting fight -- one that was a lot more watchable than Donaire-Rigondeaux.
