Too Tall Jones after 2 months of training and fighting was a very formidable fighter, but couldn't get fights... He never lost a fight.

Bert Cooper was easy to hit and lost a lot of fights...to guys like Craig Peterson...Jeremy Williams... Everett Martin... Derrick Jefferson and 21 others.

Too Tall Jones fought his first 3 fights in 3 weeks and wanted to fight on a Football like schedule -- 1 fight a week... However after he polished Fernando Montes off in 41 seconds he wasn't accommodated... He couldn't get an appropriate or progressive fight after that and was blackballed... He would have murdered the wide open Cooper with 1 shot.

When Ed "Too Tall" Jones was fighting as a pro boxer for a short time with at least one of his bouts being shown on a national network (I think it is CBS), I heard the following joke (I don't remember the exact words): Question- "Why did Too Jones' bout take place during the latter part of the televised sports program?" Answer- "They needed time to remove his scheduled opponent from an iron lung!"

That's the same BS bias that most Boxing fans use to explain why Too Tall Jones beat EVERY boxer he ever faced... Fernando Montes had a winning record of 18-12-1 and previously beat a challenger for Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier's title,. Too Tall Jones smashed Montes out in 41 seconds, which is much faster than any ranked Heavyweight Boxer put him out.. And that was 3 weeks after his boxing career began -- and his 3rd fight.

Like I said... After Too Tall's 3rd fight in 3 weeks he was blackballed.. He couldn't get a single match with a decent Heavyweight... The only guys he could possibly get fights with were guys who never won a fight and who he couldn't hold up.. His opponents got so bad that he was booed out of the arena, which is not why he took up Boxing.. Nobody in Boxing wanted Too Tall to do well or fight Larry Holmes... It would be pretty embarrassing for Boxing if Too Tall Jones smashed the crap out of 20 or 30 opponents in less than a year -- and then won the Heavyweight Title by flattening Holmes.

Everybody wanted to to fight Too Tall Jones because the man was so short, small, slow, light, weak, stubby armed, easy to beat, and such a miserable athlete for a Heavyweight -- and he was so dumb, fat, lazy, disorganized, and with no work ethic, that he couldn't possibly learn how to box.

Too Tall Jones went back to a sport where you can engage in a contest every week -- and where your most logical opponents can't duck you forever...

Because if it was easy......he would have continued. No matter what.....IF he though it could happen.

Plenty of money to be made for the person who could git 'r done.

Wilt was smart.....Don't actually fight....just say your going to. And ONLY say you'll fight one guy for the big prize.
No "rampin up" cuz you'll just end up findin' out that hitting is allowable in boxing.

This is a Fed Ex'd FULL Load of baloney.....he WAS fighting very logical opponents to get started. He just ran out of gas.
he was hitting his opponents pretty well,......... but as often is the case in boxing.... they were also hitting back.

Pretty sure THAT's what got his attention.

When you have only 3 weeks pro experience -- and KO an 18-12-1 opponent in 41 seconds -- there's something about that experience that tells a fighter he should be awarded better and more progressive opponents who might be able to hang.. When all his people can possibly dig up are horrid opponents -- worse than any he fought so far -- guys Too Tall couldn't hold up -- that told Too Tall he was being blackballed.. A loud cry of "WE DON'T WANT YOU IN BOXING"

All the evidence points to the fact that Jones was never going to achieve much. His own trainer even admitted he couldn't put into practice what he done in the gym, a common story in boxing.

The fact it took six rounds to stop Lee Holloman says it all. Not only did he outweigh him by 40 odd pounds Holloman had a record of 1-15-2 when he took on Jones and retired with a 1-18-2 record. Six rounds to beat someone so small and poor must've been a huge embarrassment to his team. So poor was Holloman it speak volumes that his only win was over Meneses, the very same fighter that Jones won a majority decision over in his debut.

Jones was pushed onto his butt, and catching his fall with both hands as Meneses smashed him with a tremendous foul left hook...to a wide open head when he was down...The referee admitted it was a "devastating punch" but didn't call a foul because "I had my head up my ass."

Too Tall took the massive foul shot, got up, and easily out boxed Meneses the rest of he way.. Jones fought 10 days later so he didn't suffer any ill effects whatever from the foul blow.. He was used to getting hit 10 times harder in Football.. He knocked his next pathetic opponent out and within 3 weeks of his pro debut fought his 3rd fight -- this time beating the favored 18-12-1 Fernando Montes. who'd been in with contenders and beat a Heavyweight Title challenger.. Jones was psyched for the fight and knocked Montes out in 41 seconds to scare everybody else off -- and frighten the Boxing Establishment.. Too Tall Jones learned the hard way that professional boxers weren't given opponents based on merit.. It was all politics.

So in your opinion Jones only fought one decent fighter, the 18-12-1 Montes, what made him so good considering 9 of Montes' opponents up to that stage are listed as making their debut and 4 others had never won a fight.

Anyhow I was talking about Holloman, not Montes or Meneses. Please give your opinion on Holloman. Holloman was Jones' second opponent and only ever won 1 fight in his life. So what your saying is Jones was so good he won a 6 round MD in his debut and then went 6 rounds in his next fight with a 1-15-2 fighter he outweighed by 40 pounds deliberately because Jones was so good? Twelve rounds in his first two fights against nobodies, two fighters with a combined record of 6-21-2.

Whats your opinion on the 'legal' issue Jones had shortly after his last fight?
