Inoue vs. Kono, Dec. 30

Post by Cutman Scabbers »

Inoue a big favorite, but sometimes the Japanese vs. Japanese matchups
yield unexpected results. Considering Kono's stamina, experience and
non-stop swarming style...

Thoughts? Anyone betting on Kono?

Inoue is said to be a lot sharper than he had been recently, a much lighter training regime, with that in mind, Inoue inside 7

Yes he looked pretty bad in his last fight. Hopefully it was just a bad day in office or luck of preparation and he is not declining. I am still counting on Chocoltito showdown in 2017.

I'm assuming you are talking about Roman. I just think he had issues at a higher weight against an incredibly gifted fighter in Cuadras. I expect to see really good things from Cuadras coming forward. He looks to be a special talent and has been flying under the radar. Reminds me of a more polished Canelo.

Naoya didn't look great last time, his team put it down to over-training and he's done HALF as many rounds of sparring for this bout as a result.

No I meant Inoue. Roman didnt look too terrific either but Inoue looked down right terrible. And right, the level of their opponents was a big deference.

SPOILERS

Couldn't get a great impression of the fight from a very laggy youtube feed, but Inoue just won by KO in the sixth round. From what I could tell Inoue was getting the best of it, landing some typically sick body punches especially, though Kono was having some success forcing NI to shell up when he came at him aggressively. It was one of those aggressive moments though that Inoue decided to fight fire with fire and found a big left hook that had Kono down and hurt. When he got up Inoue swarmed him with blows 'til he went down again and for the count.

It did seem that Inoue wasn't all that impressive for at least sections of the fight though. A little lackadaisical in his defence, maybe.

He was a little too economical at times and allowed Kono to shell him up. Looked tremendous in short bursts though and ultimately looked levels above his opponent.

Inoues accuracy, power, angles are impressive. He is an offensiveness jagannath. But his defense is not on par. He is too upright. I dont like when he covers up and lets his opponent have a go. KD was a peach.

Exactly.

He can't be like this against Chocolatito.

Inoue is still a special fighter from what I have seen. I'm not sure he would win that fight but I'm desperate to see it. Let's see what happens with Chocolatito for his next fight.

Probably a case of knowing that by letting Kono have a go he'd find a home for the counters...and what a counter it was. He officially lost 1 round on one of the judges the scores cards (50-45, 50-45 and 49-46), looked the boss against an under-rated puncher, and had it not been for Kono being tough as fornicate the bout would probably have ended in round 2

Just watched the fight. Good fun. Kono gave a spirited effort and probably doesn't drop in the rankings any as a result of this fight, Inoue's just a badass.

Saw it on the YouTube feed. Mental the worst refereeing I have seen IMO

The opponent was completely out of it and the ref tried went to help him up. He couldn't get up and then the ref started counting.

That ref should never be near a boxing ring again.
