Absolutely, in both those fights Lewis was at the point of being happy to take two to land a big one and it meant for great entertainment.Autobarn wrote:Great, wild, messy fun. As is Lewis v Vitali.95gerog wrote:Lewis vs Briggs is great entertainment. Rd 4 of that fight is majestic from Lennox.
Lewis' right hands, once he timed them, were crunching shots with the entire weight of his body behind them.

The decision in the first fight really puts things into perspective with the Ward vs Kovalev and Chisora vs Whyte "robberies"

Good point although I felt Ward only made that fight competitive in the second half of the fight, far too late, and he wasn't dominating the second half, merely competitive.davie wrote:The decision in the first fight really puts things into perspective with the Ward vs Kovalev and Chisora vs Whyte "robberies"

Exactly. Some people either don't know the meaning of the term robbery, or they just haven't watched many fights.davie wrote:The decision in the first fight really puts things into perspective with the Ward vs Kovalev and Chisora vs Whyte "robberies"

Lewis/Briggs was fun,1st time id seen it,Briggs started off fast and stunned Lewis but Lennox started to find his range and landed some heavy, thudding right hands over the top, credit Briggs though he showed a lot of guts to keep getting up off the canvas, credit to Lewis too considering Shannon has never been stopped since

Holyfield/Stewart was another fun fight,Stewart sure took his lumps and showed a great chin in not going down or giving up,Holyfield was landing some heavy firepower on him, especially with the right uppercuts,Stewart's face was a bloody mess by the time the doc stopped it
I'm gonna give the rematch a watch at some point,is it much cop?

Wow this brings back memories. I had really good seats for this fight. It was a good card (4 world title fights) and the atmosphere of anticipation for the main fight was electric. It felt like you could cut the atmosphere with a knife
The fight itself was a real let down and I remember around about the 9th or 10th round an American guy behind me dressed in a fur coat & sun glasses, holding a make shift sign that read "tonight you are going to see real boxing" saying loudly in a southern drool "you know what...this is a sorry arse fight". But Lewis won the fight no question at all.
I don't go down the conspiracy theory route, just 2 really bad scorecards from 2 of the judges.
Mitch Green was in the crowd and got quite a bit of attention from fans. One big dude who made quite a bit of noise about what he could still do in boxing.

Heard their rematch was horrible, with Evander tuning up for the Bowe rematch and looking shopworn. The reason why Bowe was so highly favoured in their 1993 classic.handsofstone wrote:Holyfield/Stewart was another fun fight,Stewart sure took his lumps and showed a great chin in not going down or giving up,Holyfield was landing some heavy firepower on him, especially with the right uppercuts,Stewart's face was a bloody mess by the time the doc stopped it

Evander v Stewart I was a strange one. Holyfield really looked ragged in there. Every time he took a solid shot he'd kind of freeze. He had no rhythm whatsoever vs Stewart I, unusual to see for a young Holyfield, one of the renowned combination punchers.

Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 52 - Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield I
I watched the Holyfield/Stewart rematch earlier, nowhere near as much fun as their 1st fight, although it did have its moments occasionally but for the most part Holyfield just simply outboxed Stewart who looked a bit flat,Evander looked like he might try and get Stewart out of there early unloading big shots from both hands, the uppercuts and body shots looking spiteful, then Holyfield settled down a bit content to just box before winning a wide UD

Watched this yesterday.
Scored it 117-111. Holyfield didn't even celebrate at the end as he knew he had lost. This fight wasn't even close.
