His legs were rubber at 22 versus Leonard... Early in the fight when he got tagged his legs quivered... He came back and was dominating but his legs started going in the 12th.. He was done in the 14th and all Ray had to do was finish him.

kalan...uou should learn how to really watch a fight and what the fighters are doing...their techniques, their corners.does the referee show he prefers certain styles...not just read a records and count kayoes and wins and losses. obviously you see old fights on film...you look but you don't see

Walcott was knocked out 4 times and beaten 16 times BEFORE he ever fought Marciano... You have no idea what a boxing genius is... Salvador Sanchez was never knocked out and could lay claim to boxing genius... Floyd Mayweather was never knocked out and is considered a defensive genius... Eder Jofre was never knocked out in 78 fights---a genius I'd say... Gene Tunney was never knocked out in 67 fights and certainly a genius defender... Bernard Hopkins was knocked out once in 67 fights, because he was 51, but a genius to that point... Joe Calzaghe was never knocked out. I certainly wouldn't call him a boxing genius because he led with his face, however he was a Hell of a lot more slippery than Walcott... James Toney was never stopped in 91 fights. I wouldn't call him genius, but he was close... Mike McCallum was never knocked out, and a boxing genius...Roy Jones would quit if he were a genius -- but Roy went 50-1 to age 35 I think -- certainly harder to nail than Walcott... Willie Pep was never stopped until his 137th fight. That was after he was almost killed in an airplane crash and spent 4 months in a full body cast.

Walcott's problem was straight punches. He'd try to juke around and he'd get nailed straight away trying to slip something... No genius by any stretch.

you have done a better job of your assessing your own weaknesses than i have. there are some good writers on this forum and instead of your silly ad hom responses when they disagree with your record book quotes you might try learning something about boxing from them instead.

You don't know anything Jaclem, so I could never learn anything from you... I agree there are some knowledgeable people on the forum, but you're not one of them. If Walcott were a genius he wouldn't have been knocked out 6 times and beaten 18 times.. I'm not obsessed with wins and losses.. I'm the guy who said Yory Boy Campas was a terrible fighter and Campas went 56-0...before finally fighting a decent fighter in Felix Trinidad, who put him out.

Walcott was knocked out by Abe Simon. How the Hell does that happen??? Simon was 1 of the most inept Heavyweights I've ever seen.. Louis teed off on Simon with full strength shots because he couldn't miss him. Too bad the Walcott-Simon fight isn't available -- but enough of his fights are that anyone can see he was no match for a prime Joe Louis or prime Ezzard Charles.. Their skills broke down early for reasons that had nothing to do with their peak ability -- which was way better than Walcott's..

Charles had little trouble with Walcott in their first 2 fights but he deteriorated.. I think it was the early inroads of ALS -- the slowly creeping nerve disease that keeps on you until you can't move---whether that takes 6 years or 25 years... Charles beat Archie Moore 3 times, and beat Charlie Burley twice, beat Walcott twice, and beat Jimmy Bivins 4 times.. He started losing a few fights.. He kept losing more and more fights until he couldn't beat anybody.. He fought as a Middleweight for his first 30 fights, and as a Light Heavyweight until he had over 60 fights, but he won 9 straight Heavyweight Championship fights before he lost his edge.

i met ezzard when he was a light heavy. he was, and is, my all-time favorite boxer. I interviewed him a few times on my radio show, and had talks with him at other times. i talked to him once when he was in a wheel chair and it was painful to see this great athlete decline so badly. when he lived in chicago his decline was rapid. he could no longer talk so he and his wife gladys communicated by eye blinks. when his chief nurse told him i said hello he smiled and "told" gladys to tell the nurse to say hello from him to me.

re::walcott. i know the details of why that third match was made, and i know a lot about the fourth match, which he won by a clean margin, but it was loaded against him from the start, judges and referee zack clayton could be heard over the tv mic saying "come on pappy". meaning walcott and telling ezzard to keep his punches up when ezzard hit him as high as his collar bone. ezz was a great infighter, so that took away much of his offense.

I am discussing ezzard because you mentioned him in your usual list. if there is something else you can add to my knowledge of ezzard i will greatly appreciate it.

Kalan knows his fair share, just highly opinionated, he seems to know what he knows, if you know what he means. Can't blame him.... when you've collected as much knowledge as he has, it's hard to find room for an additional thought, opinion or idea.

Please don't completely ignore my question; what weight class were you, or if you don't want to share the actual weight class about what height and weight were you in your prime?

I was a Heavyweight... A big and tall one... I was introduced a couple times as "The world's hardest punching Heavyweight." which was untrue, but some people thought I hit hard because I flattened a ranked heavyweight with a very short hook... I went over to the announcer and told him "Please don't say that" and he didn't do it again... This is all true, but I'm only giving you the good stuff and not the negative stuff.
