Re the father and son question: In 1936, Jersey Joe Walcott knocked out Phil Johnson in three rounds in Philadelphia. In 1950, Jersey Joe knocked out Harold Johnson in three rounds in Philadelphia.

rats....I posted the Walcott/Johnson info on the heavyweight families thread. Fooey. All my life people have followed me around and copied what I said and then said it themselves and made millions.W.C.Fields and George Carlin stole their entire acts from me.

I saw the Walcott/Johnson fight on tv..Harold wasn't ready for fighter of thjat experience and quality.

First Black fighter to win a world title: George Dixon beat Nunc Wallace of England by knockut in 18 rounds, june 27,1890, for bantamweight titlle. I saw that one on live TV too, so don't come on here and say you knew it first. Called him on the phone and congratulated him.

Let's get this straight.
Bugner was a junior ENGLISH schools champion at discus as a 14 year old in 1964.
He attempted to qualify for the 1996 Australian Olympic team at discus.

Jack Sharkey. You can stretch it a bit if you include King Levinsky whom Demspey fought in an exhibition match. I'm tossing him in because it's been written by some that even though it was just an exhibition, it was competitive and convinced Dempsey not to make a comeback.
