I have always been interested in the minority report, S.O.P. for me... and the more odd it is the more I'm curious as to why. Well that wasn't head trauma was it???? I've probably had more fights than you and I never suffered cracked ribs or torn ligaments in my ankles and feet.. but if I ever bore those injuries as an amateur I would probably pull out of any fight that wasn't for a national or international title.. If there's a lot at stake you might suck it up for one fight -- if you think there's a good chance you can win with pain injections or whatever you can do for the injuries... Those injuries will heal 100%... but not every type of injury will heal perfectly.

Head trauma is a different matter altogether -- it's your brain... I was fortunate not to suffer any -- but I wouldn't fight for months if I thought I was dinged badly.. How any boxer goes in there within a few months of getting knocked out is beyond me.. It's not a reasonable risk for anyone to take.

And "they" is Too Tall Jones's team.. He was fine after his pro debut -- where he was hit with a savage foul blow after he was pushed down -- and he came back to win.. He was fine after the fight.. If he had a headache or anything I'm certain he wouldn't have had 3 fights in 3 weeks to start his career.

He's asking me for a link to a pro debut that happened 37 years ago...Then he's saying I'm making it up because I didn't produce his link... He can go to the newspaper archives himself and look up the stories on the fight and try to find out for himself... They have varying accounts but they will point out Jones was shoved down to the canvas and hit with a brutal foul blow to the head while he was sitting down... There is no dispute on that.

Plenty of fighters who are looking to stay active & build up their records in order to establish themselves in the public's & the press's imaginations used to often go on such barnstorming tours. It certainly wasn't all that unusual back in the day.
Hell, Duane Bobick made a career out of it & more recently, fightings like Charlie "White Lightning" Brown & Mike Tyson did the same thing.
Hell, for quite a stretch back in the 90s, Buck Smith was sometimes fighting twice in two different locations in the same day!

Yes, but those weren't rookies who lacked extensive amateur experience -- and who were coming out of the box with no experience... Bobick was an Olympian with over 100 amateur fights... He fought Montes in his 45th professional fight, and it went 2:25 into the 3rd... Too Tall Jones had very few amateur fights, and only 2 professional fights, and smashed Montes out in 41 seconds... It was only 3 weeks into his pro career -- so he EXPECTED to be presented with BETTER opponents -- since he just crushed an experienced pro boxer who had a winning professional record.

But those better opponents never happened.. After throwing opponents at Jones for 3 weeks they didn't "barn storm" Jones.. They kept giving Jones sad excuses about not lining up any opponents for him... "We're working on it.. We're working on it." ... They took forever, but came up with crap-ass opponents -- opponents who were certain to piss off the fans..

Jones was angered about not getting better opponents who could fight.. Especially his 6th pro fight which was a joke.. After giving Jones a ringer with 11 fights for his pro debut -- (doesn't usually happen that way) -- they gave him a guy who never stepped into a ring for his 6th fight.. That's ass backwards.. They didn't want Jones in Boxing.. They didn't want him getting better, and improving rapidly, with progressively better opponents and destroying everybody out there.. And let's be frank about Boxing.. It's WHO you know and WHO you are aligned with that gets you the right fights.. It's not a merit based sport.

Bol was one of the most anemic Basketball players in the History of the game... Chamberlain sometimes outrebounded whole teams on the boards... He scored 100 points in a game -- with the opposing team pounding him and hanging all over him -- forcing him to sink dozens of foul shots.

Bol never dreamed he could do anything like that... He wasn't that imaginative that he ever had thoughts of greatness.
