Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
This doesn't even surprise me
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
I wouldn't have thought it was Eddie's style to bring something like that up. I guess Chris really has irked him.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
Would point out the Eubank tweeted saying this was not true and at one point he travelled to see Barrie Hearn in hospital when he had a suspected heart attack.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
It was discussed only a couple of days ago during a conversation about Eubank as a businessman. Hearn used that anecdote in part to demonstrate Eubank's attitude towards money - wider context being a general 'great boxer - completely useless with finances.' As demonstrated by him being paid millions, spending like money was 'falling out of his arse,' and being declared bankrupt.Noxy wrote:I wouldn't have thought it was Eddie's style to bring something like that up. Also, Eubank wanted to make sure the first dollar dropped to the fighter.BitPlayer wrote:http://www.BS.com/hearn-eubank ... Pdxod.dpuf

Yeah he dipped his pockets for petrol money during the visit and sent Mrs Hearn an invoice afterwards though.Finn wrote:Would point out the Eubank tweeted saying this was not true and at one point he travelled to see Barrie Hearn in hospital when he had a suspected heart attack.

He charged expenses for his meals that day, despite eating home.Stuarty30 wrote:Yeah he dipped his pockets for petrol money during the visit and sent Mrs Hearn an invoice afterwards though.Finn wrote:Would point out the Eubank tweeted saying this was not true and at one point he travelled to see Barrie Hearn in hospital when he had a suspected heart attack.

Maybe eubank saw the relationship as the business arrangement it actually was. If it was FWs birthday party it would be all "good on him" posts relentlessly. Whether he likes it or not, eubank massively contributed to Eddies lifestyle and upbringing, he doesn't owe Barry anything, if he wanted to behave like this to sever ties with them or something I wouldn't begrudge him.
Speaking of FW, has anyone else noticed Eddie's slight transformation into him?

Why not just say 'no thanks' when invited rather than asking for an appearance fee to go to someone's birthday party?Stevieb8006 wrote:Maybe eubank saw the relationship as the business arrangement it actually was. It's demonstrably the behavior of a twat.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
I can see Stevie's point. It was a purely business agreement. Chris Eubank made a lot of money for the Hearns, and the Hearns made a lot of money for the Eubanks. The ability to generate money has always been pretty much the sole indication of success to Hearns. I can see why English might see it as nothing other than another personal appearance opportunity.
You just have to look at Uncle Eddie's PPV record to see how much he values creaming as much money as possible, for even the most mediocre of cards. That's pretty much the relationship the Hearns have with everybody. Taking as much money off of them as possible. Eubank was just treating them the way the Hearn Family treats everybody and everything, as a way of milking cash.
Though Eubank's actions might seem OTT to us normal plebs, in the whacky world of the Eubank family, and the yuppy success world of the Hearn family, do you really feel that surprised?

No, don't agree at all. Asking for an appearance fee to show up at a surprise birthday party is pretty pathetic behaviour from anyone. Either go in good faith, or don't go at all.ILikeBeer wrote:I can see Stevie's point. It was a purely business agreement. Does any0ne really believe that Sr is more concerned about his sons career than publicity for himself?
What fight was it when he came in the ring in between rounds and just stood staring at Jr whilst stroking his chin?
The guys a total tool and id imagine his ego affected all those around him including Jr whilst growing up
Also he claims to be some sort of intellect but whenever he's asked a question all he does is look into space searching for a big word to use which usually has no relevance to the question he was just asked, interviews are always tedious affairs

I wonder if it was his way of letting them know you won't be getting any involvement in my future for free. We don't know the terms Chris and barry parted on. I think he felt rinsed then abandoned.Boxerbeetle wrote:No, don't agree at all. Asking for an appearance fee to show up at a surprise birthday party is pretty pathetic behaviour from anyone. Clawing back those fees that Barry made from him risking his life in the ring. Good man.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
It comes across that Hearn made a lot of money as a promoter but likewise Eubank made an astronomical sum as a boxer, but Hearn is a businessman and Eubank blew it. I'm sure Matchroom have represented hundreds of sportsmen over the years who have done very well financially and not ended up down the tubes. Barry Hearn's relationship with Steve Davis seems spot on.Stevieb8006 wrote:I wonder if it was his way of letting them know you won't be getting any involvement in my future for free. From the outside it seems like Eubank has reacted badly to Eddie suggested his interference with his son's career has been poor. And lets be honest, it has been. It's not hard to argue that he cost his son the Saunders fight, he's alienated the two biggest domestic promoters, and what does he have to show for it? Nothing.
I loved watching Eubank and I rate Junior, but there needs to be some acceptance from them that they're in a complete mess at the moment.

I wasn't so much condoning it. It's obviously not something I'd do myself.Boxerbeetle wrote: No, don't agree at all. Asking for an appearance fee to show up at a surprise birthday party is pretty pathetic behaviour from anyone. Either go in good faith, or don't go at all.
But if it is true, and we don't know that it is. But if it IS true, I can see why Eubank thought he'd get away with it. Or at least would have a different mindset about this sort of thing than the majority of us.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
Presumably such an event would have a lot of famous people at it though? Clearly there is some notion that this isn't a public event and is a private party for an old friend. The fact Hearn seemed bemused by the idea of him asking for an appearance fee suggests the other people involved from football/snooker/darts/boxing probably didn't do the same.ILikeBeer wrote:I wasn't so much condoning it. I agree with all of that except the what has he got to show for it part. He's got the backing of a terrestrial channel and a minor trinket the public may well believe is legit. Loads would kill to be in jnrs position right now, dare I say a few signed to matchroomdirk2686 wrote:It comes across that Hearn made a lot of money as a promoter but likewise Eubank made an astronomical sum as a boxer, but Hearn is a businessman and Eubank blew it. Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
Bearing in mind this would've happened in 2008, and Eddie was more than happy to work with the Eubanks last year until Eubank decided to feck everything up. If Eddie was so desperately hurt by this, why wasn't he speaking up last year? He chooses to speak up now after their business relationship has fallen apart?dirk2686 wrote: Presumably such an event would have a lot of famous people at it though? To be honest, I wasn't even saying I agreed with Stevie. More so that I could see his point. Probably a lot of greed from both sides of this arrangement, was all I was really saying.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
In the same interview Hearn said you have to sometimes sit down and work with people who you think are arseholes. I imagine he's enjoyed the company of people in the past who have subsequently proven themselves to be a bit of an idiot. Happens all the time in all walks of life.ILikeBeer wrote:Bearing in mind this would've happened in 2008, and Eddie was more than happy to work with the Eubanks last year until Eubank decided to feck everything up. Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
The backing of an untested PPV platform which may completely collapse. All signs are that this looks like a car crash promotion. He also seems to have completely alienated the bigger promoters. Joshua is a stadium fighter about to face Wlad. Brook has just sold out the O2 against Golovkin and is possibly on the verge of a massive fight with Khan. Bellew and Haye are going to sell out the O2 on Box Office earning both a packet. DeGale and Frampton are world champions. Warrington gets massive domestic backing and is probably going to be given a push as a major face for Warren.Stevieb8006 wrote:I agree with all of that except the what has he got to show for it part. Not saying everything is rosy everywhere else. Saunders and Fury have obvious problems. But I really don't get the idea of Eubank being in some envious position. He could have had massive fights, he hasn't, and on his one big step up he was beaten. The general public might not be massive boxing fans but there was no doubt about the WBU belt when Hatton had it; same deal applies here.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate why the GGG talks fell down. It wasn't because of Hearn, it was because of Eubank's idiocy, greed and massive ego.dirk2686 wrote: In the same interview Hearn said you have to sometimes sit down and work with people who you think are arseholes. I don't like Eddie Hearn much, but I can fully believe this story about Eubanks.
I just find it a bit pot, kettle, black with Eddie. Him calling somebody else greedy.
Re: Hearn: Eubank Sr. Wanted 'Fee' To Attend My Dad's Birthday Party
But Hearn's job, his literal, actual, day to day profession, is to make people money. He's no different to anyone else who has something to sell. There are going to inevitably be accusations of greed with people like this. But I'm not really sure there's anything that appears as remotely tight in his list of supposed indiscretions as asking for an appearance fee to go to someone's birthday party.ILikeBeer wrote:Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate why the GGG talks fell down.
