World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman would love for his organization to create a special belt for the potential all-Mexican battle between superstars Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs).
Because the fight would take place at a catch-weight of 165-pounds, there wouldn't be a title at stake. Canelo, who holds the WBO junior middleweight title, would move up from 154-pounds, while Chavez Jr. would come down from the super middleweight limit of 168.
"A fight between two icons, which does represent a lot for the world of boxing, it would be an honor for us to recognize it with a commemorative belt," said Sulaimán.
"It has been talked about for a long time, it is a fight that's been considered for many years. If it happens, it's going to be important for Mexico and the entire boxing world, and two Mexicans climbing in the ring would be interesting. I do not know if it is confirmed," he said. .

Super, let's create more belts that fighters do not care about for a fight that one country wants to see for some reason. Do you want to know what the fight will look like? 11.5 rounds of JCCJR getting slapped around and bloodied up. The last 90 seconds of the fight, JCCJR will start to fight and run out of time in the fight.
JCCJR is a bum. How he has any bargaining power after quitting on his stool is beyond me. Just another entitled Son of a legend thinking he has something coming to him.

It's only a meaningless commemorative belt that will be awarded to the winner of a fight between Mexicos biggest TV draws - nothing more, nothing less. It's not worth getting your knickers in a twist about.caldo2025 wrote:Super, let's create more belts that fighters do not care about for a fight that one country wants to see for some reason.
If an organisation that was founded in Mexico wants to award a commemorative belt to the winner of a bout involving two Mexcans, why should this bother anyone?

Boxers are throwing belts away left and right to avoid big fights because there's so many belts. And you don't see anything wrong with them creating belts for fights. Use your head, it's not a difficult concept. I don't care if it's commemorative or to hold up their pants, boxing needs to build up the prestige of these belts and bring back their importance. Creating them for any stupid fight defeats the purpose and further lessens the value of winning a belt, period.Enlightened-One wrote:It's only a meaningless commemorative belt that will be awarded to the winner of a fight between Mexicos biggest TV draws - nothing more, nothing less. THAT is what you should be in a twist about IF you are a true fan of the sport and where it's going. Obviously, you are not a true fan with most of your views. You could live without it and most of us can't. They should create another room on this site for casual fans so you guys can voice your pathetic opinions there.

I think it will be an honourary title. Bcus you cant have a catchweight title, that's just creating a new weight class. which is a jokecaldo2025 wrote:Boxers are throwing belts away left and right to avoid big fights because there's so many belts.
