It is good deal for the sport, and the boxers. I'm not so convinced it is for the fans. Ultimately we have another ppv platform that is going to be used for the big fights.
Frank isn't going to change his habits this late in the day, we all now how he matches his fighters.

For those that go to fights, perhaps ticket-buyers can be more confident in FW shows now? BT won't let them absolutely collapse as they have done.

The big question- will Total Combat return?
On a serious note- as they already show Cage Warriors and all the UFC events plus the related documentaries- BT would have enough content to have a channel dedicated to MMA and Boxing.

Haye 100% going.Autobarn wrote:So we will see better fights for Saunders and Flanagan, maybe a couple of defections. Who's not happy in Hearn contract - Degale? ... Frampton would be a great catch if possible. Seriously people see Haye going over to Warren with their history?
Competition for Sky and Hearn is healthy, crucial and what is missing. Chance for everyone to up their game. However we won't see their top fighters vs each other unless one is coming off a defeat and desperate and in no position to negotiate. Boxing 101. But do we trust FW to put great, risky fights on with regularity? Outside Benn and Naz when did an FW fighter take consistent risks?
Suddenly is FW going to put his fighters in away from home risks like Brook v Porter, McDonnell v Kameda (twice!), Degale v Dirrell like your despised Eddie did?
Question, does Warren have any stars he's building towards a world title? Curious to know. Because now they'll have a better chance.
And, are Boxrec posters going to just ignore the really good fights that Matchroom put on (Smith-Sosa, McDonnell-Solis, Burns-Relikh, Crolla-Linares, Warrington-Amagasa all outstanding international fights from this year alone) and give Warren credit if he can come even close to putting that caliber of fights on?
Seems some are just looking for a paradigm shift. For someone else to control boxing. Then in a year or two "ol' fish eyes" will receive the bile, abuse and personal insults that others receive now.

Didn't know about cage warriors, that's not what was cage rage is it? Wondered whatever happened to them, because they looked like quite a sizeable organisation.

They are nothing to with Cage Rage- although they used to be their rivals. Cage Warriors have produced more fighters for the UFC than any other promotion. Conor McGregor got signed on the back of winning two titles with them.
They are now have an even closer relationship with the UFC as they stream around the world on UFC Fight Pass. In the UK- they are on BT Sport. On Saturday night- they did an invitation only event live from the BT Studio at Stratford as a lead in to UFC 205

Boxing and PPV go hand in hand, it's been happening for years and years. It's anoyying but part of the sport.Twinkle Toes wrote:It is good deal for the sport, and the boxers. Let's just hope it's only the like you say, big fights that get PPV status, what Matchrrom serve up as PPV is a joke.
I laughed when Eddie said, " if this card wasn't on PPV would we see Chisora vs Whyte?? Definetly not! " like they are boxing super powers. Hopefully we see less shite PPVs with BT but the odd proper one.
Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
Have to laugh at slow Eddie and Sky now with Hearn saying on IFL that he's tonking the opposition
Looks like things are about to take a dramatic turn allegedly's way
Would love to have seen the look on Hearn and Adam Smith's faces when news came in.

yes, Benn and Naz aside.Twinkle Toes wrote:It is good deal for the sport, and the boxers. I'm not so convinced it is for the fans. Ultimately we have another ppv platform that is going to be used for the big fights.

Also, I always felt the Naz breakup caused a final change in him. Max going on to form Prince Promotions promoting through Barry Hearn's licence and sustained by licence fees from HBO and Sky Sports and PPV.
In a way Calzaghe was the perfect Warren fighter, stayed with him for aeons, not overanxious to test himself, until the end when those two great unification wins were delivered, great shows also and great results.
Credit to FW for his perseverance, finding a way to come back through a monopoly. Though when he was the man, he was worse, much worse than Matchroom currently are.

Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
I don't think Haye will necessarily sign with Warren I just think he will fight in the channel and let Frank do the undercard. Makes perfect sense for both and I've called Hayes next fight to be the first on this new deal.Autobarn wrote:Wow. Why would you think it wouldn't happen ? FW did the Chisora fight which will have made Haye a lot of money.
Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
BT also know how to attract new subscribers unlike sky.
Europa league Thursdays involving united have been free on their non HD channel, the do around 2-3 free to view games per season as well. If they were to do this for a big fight say if FW can grow BJS some actual balls to fight GGG instead of calling him out on twitter. They could put that out free to air and win over some new subscribers.
BT will trounce any eventually.

Haye has boxed on Setanta and BN on FW promotions!
Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
This is a good thing for boxing but I do think that Sky are still ahead of BT sports. They have a dedicated sports news channel (which to my knowledge BT sports don't have) which they use to cross promote on and Sky news itself is a great cross promotion platform.
Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
If BT are putting top quality cards on BT it will become a lot harder to put Joshua v Bums and the likes of Cleverly v Bellew on PPV, especially if BT put a card on the same day against Hearn's PPV
Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
I'd like to see Warren doing that lol. I could see him doing that haha. Promoters tend to normally deliberately look out for other promoters shows so they don't have thar problem but I can see FW going after Eddie in a pretty strong fashion.tony1234 wrote:If BT are putting top quality cards on BT it will become a lot harder to put Joshua v Bums and the likes of Cleverly v Bellew on PPV, especially if BT put a card on the same day against Hearn's PPV

Re: BT Sports & B0xnati0n deal worth £100 million
Yes. Warren didn't pay Calzaghe for the Hopkins fight after Joe rejected an offer to be a shareholder in FW's company, going off on his own instead to form Calzaghe Promotions. FW had moved all his assets to a company under a different name just around the same time so that "Sports Network" didn't have to pay him.
Did Joe end up getting his money?
I know the judge was critical of the media for such one sided coverage in favour of Warren.

Who are we expecting announced then? I know Dickens is due to face Ward for the British super bantam in Liverpool and Conlan headlines in Dublin on 18th Feb. Maybe 5 fights announced and you'd imagine he'd want one to be significant so it would likely mean one of Hughie, BJS, Flanagan, Smith headlining? Flanagan in Manchester in March?
