The "unnamed Federal undercover Narcotics officer' mentioned actually published his autobiography
about ten years ago and had an entire chapter on Sonny Liston.
It was once available to read at Google Books but they removed it for copyright reasons.
I remember the agent was African-American and he was investigating Liston for
dealing cocaine (small amounts,including selling it to Joe Louis if I remember correctly)
which was probably the reason that got him killed.
