Niky Cook in eliminator?

Post by Old bones Ian »

I've read a couple of reports that Niky Cook will next fight an eliminator for the WBC title in June, how come? He's ranked No1 with that organisation so shouldn't that make him the mandatory contender for the title.

I think its only IBF that has the policy that #1 = mandatory challenger, in the other organizations they have to fight eliminators even if they are #1.

Would be tragic if Nicky lost an eliminator whilst been number 1 contender, does Nicky have to give up his EBU belt even if he fights an eliminator ???

I wouldn't have thought so, although that's just my ill-informed opinion.

Chi is #2 by the way, if we make the crazy assumption that this eliminator is going to between #1 and #2.

I'd really like to know what the policy is on interim champions. Say Cook wins his eliminator - would he fight Soto or Koshimoto? And when (if ever) will the two of them have to fight?

Arce at flyweight is the craziest example of this. According to his boxrec record, he has now made 4 'interim' defences, with he and Wongjongkam seemingly in no rush to fight each other
