Groves beat degale twice and will again this year but I always thought that degale would beat froch
Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?

Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
Probably not. Don't have Sky Sports, so I'd have to stream it in the middle of the night or stay round somebody else house to watch it. Can't be bothered for DeGale.
Probably won't even bother to tape it. He really isn't that exciting as a fighter. Even if he wins on points, there'll be four rounds where he does nothing.

Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
I'll probably set the alarm yes. I think the 8/11 on Degale winning on points is a very decent bet and is by far the most likely outcome. I don't really rate Jack and Degale doesn't really have the pop to stop him in my view.
Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
I think it would have been interesting. Degales style would have given Froch trouble but Froch's engine/workrate would have given Degale fits. I see Degale picking up rounds but ultimately coming up short one way or the otherrd350lc wrote:No , he wouldn't , he had more problems dealing with slick movers .samwbr wrote:In a much weaker division. One thing we can say is Froch is tried and tested at the highest level. Don't think Degale has passed the big test yet.
Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
The first time Degale went to the ropes Froch would have jumped all over him and broken him down.

Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
I think i'll stay up for this one as well,im trying to stay off the drink for a few weeks as I kicked the arse out of it over the holidays so I might get some munchies and coffee to keep me occupied until it starts, might be a bit rusty as its been a few weeks since I stayed up to watch a fight
DeGale/Jack should be a great fight, competitive until the end,i thought DeGale won wide against Medina but never really shone and had his dips in workrate again which he'll need to cut out over the pond against a "home" fighter,i was one of the few who agreed that Jack/Bute was a draw,Jack like DeGale slowed his workrate down which allowed his opponent to close the gap on the cards so neither man coming into this fight on their top form but I think they'll both bring their A Game this weekend and it might not be a barnstormer I think it will still be a good fight to watch, nip/tuck all the way
I fancy DeGale to have too much class for Jack and that will se his arm raised at the end, ive wrote Jack off a couple of times though so it wouldn't surprise me if he got the decision especially in America, luckily DeGale has fought in the US a few times so travelling wont bother him,he just needs to stay busy and not win the first 4 rounds then take his foot of the gas and allow Jack back into it,i think Jack will have to try and rough DeGale up and not allow him to look flash so James will have to use his legs throughout which might tire him and make it interesting
Still i'll go DeGale close on points and if he can land they right hooks come uppercuts then he has the power to get Jack out of there but as I said this will be about workrate not power

Bit simplistic. That said I think Chunkys habit of taking rests would let him down here, Froch was a machine. DeGale wins handily over 8, Froch breaks him down over 12samwbr wrote:The first time Degale went to the ropes Froch would have jumped all over him and broken him down.

I've not got sky sports but can log on via a mates virgin account, so it's highlights next morn for me. Intriguing fight though, but not enough to stay up for, as fairly predictable as in it'll be close points, after the usual barnstorming DG start, before he slows down, but DG will get the points win.
Is this American banger Davis any good ?

Don't have sky but got a free now TV pass for 24 hours so will probably start it at 2 for the fight then get all the premier league matches on the Sunday and two NFL playoff games on the Sunday evening.

Froch would have stopped him in the 9 or 10th.fizzjambo wrote:Bit simplistic. That said I think Chunkys habit of taking rests would let him down here, Froch was a machine. Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
Looking forward to it,yeh ill be staying up for it.closer this fights getting im giving Jack more of a chance of winning.
His timing is very good and could frustrate De Gales speed or getting his shots off quickly.Jack has a great way of not wasting punches.Everything is placed and if it isnt on then he will reset wait until the gap opens again.rarely wastes anything.
Such a close fight, hoping Chunky can do the business!

Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
See Degale taking a close, possibly split points decision on this one - think he'll be the better fighter technically, but will drop some rounds largely through simply being out-worked.

Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
Pedraza/Davis is an interesting match up but its a big step up for Davis, the only fighter of note he has beaten is Cristobal Cruz who's now a human punchbag these days apart from that he's beat nobody,i remember seeing him on some undercard and I remember being impressed by his power but I didn't think he'd get a title shot so soon,i suppose that's the perks of being a Mayweather fighter
Pedraza coming in off the good win over Smith,he looked good that night and he is a quality operator no doubt but he can switch off and sometimes not even turn up like he did against Cherry,if he switches off for a moment against Davis then Gervonta might have the power to KO him.i suspect Pedraza will be wary of Davis's power and stay smart for the full 12 rounds and outbox him for the decision

Because the winner becomes ring magazine champion and the clear number 1at the weight.ginty wrote:Hows that then , from ward? Ward moving up means he is no longer lineal champion.

This fight show if you think a fighter is top notch you put him in with top people if they are prepared to walk the walk.handsofstone wrote:Pedraza/Davis is an interesting match up but its a big step up for Davis, the only fighter of note he has beaten is Cristobal Cruz who's now a human punchbag these days apart from that he's beat nobody,i remember seeing him on some undercard and I remember being impressed by his power but I didn't think he'd get a title shot so soon,i suppose that's the perks of being a Mayweather fighter

I'll possibly watch it, but mainly because I'll be up to watch the Patriots' play-off match.

That's not too bad actually! I've been struggling to keep my eyes open all day. Been rattling coffee like it's going out of fashion to keep going. I'll see how I feel after match of the day and a few cans. I've set it to record just incase.

Just been for a meal, totally stuffed,it feels like about 10 0'Clock at night,i had a couple of pints too and ive just had a joint, surely i'll need to have a nap or i'll never stay awake for this
Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
Ed Robinson tweeted saying Pedraza vs Davis is approx. 2.40am, which would push DeGale back closer to 3.30.

Re: Anyone staying up to watch DeGale next week?
yes staying up.it is a huge fight .the brits n irish have a huge affinity with the super middle weight title , think de gale is a performance away from putting his name amongst top british fighters , he has really won me over ,i remember wanting darren sutherland to beat him in the olympics , and sided with groves in their fight, but i think he showed a lot of character to come back , and back so much better, i would now sided with de gale over groves if a rematch , comon chunky
