Well i just put my detectives head on ,, and looked at virgin and jetsar flights , for the 2nd arriving and the 4th or 5th departing back to Perth ,, Guess what theres LOTS of seats left , don't think the west australians are clammering for flights to attend the fight of the century ,
The south aussies , well its close to xmas and the states in the doldrums now theres no work and growing your own crops is now illigal ( only kidding )
So i suppose that gonna leave vic , NSW and Queensland to send over bus loads , and book the flights out .. Is choc that popular .

Glad you are doing your homework on this one. It will be interesting to see how close your prediction of about 6,000 is to the markconeye wrote:Well i just put my detectives head on ,, and looked at virgin and jetsar flights , for the 2nd arriving and the 4th or 5th departing back to Perth ,, Guess what theres LOTS of seats left , don't think the west australians are clammering for flights to attend the fight of the century ,

The ground record for Adelaide Oval is 52,633 for a cricket Big Bash match.
With the playing arena going to be set up for the ring, tables and closer seating, the above record could potentially be exceeded, if all the seats in the stands and concourse etc, outside the playing area have bums on them as well as those inside the playing area.
But this assumption is all "pie in the sky" and fantasyland stuff, and of course, there will be stacks of empty seats in the stands and behind the fence.
So having a guess, I reckon 20,000 at best will lob on the night, as Adelaide has some other formidable activities happening on the same date, viz:
. Free Outdoor Movies in Adelaide This Summer
. Exhibition at State Library of South Australia
. Beachport Museum Railway Exhibition

Your prediction of 15,000 to 20,000 is noted and it means every option in the poll now has at least one takerBeltane wrote:The ground record for Adelaide Oval is 52,633 for a cricket Big Bash match.

Green has had bigger crowds to his recent fights against much lower profile opponents than Mundine than you are predicting here. But I guess you will explain that away by claiming they were all there on freebie ticketsconeye wrote:yeh , but i bet most are xmas presents , and they won't bother to show and use them Lolbogan whisperer wrote:I think you will find they have already sold more than that and the fight is still months away.coneye wrote:IF IT GOES AHEAD ,, 5000-10000 , and it will be closer to 5000 than 10000. , Yesterdays news ,,

Not at all , although there probably could be a case made ,, I'll explain it away by simply stating its being held in ADELAIDE .. Vic ,, NSW , or WA i could see big crowds especelly VIC and WA ,, but adelaide , not excatly the boxing mecca of Aust is it .bogan whisperer wrote:Green has had bigger crowds to his recent fights against much lower profile opponents than Mundine than you are predicting here. A case made for what? That most of the capacity crowds at the Watts and Bolonti fights were there on freebies?coneye wrote:Not at all , although there probably could be a case made ,, I'll explain it away by simply stating its being held in ADELAIDE .. There were an estimated 9,000 at the Green vs Bolonti fight and 10,000 at the Green vs Watts fight. I hardly see less turning up to Green vs Mundine wherever it is held........even Adelaide.

Promoters will be hoping there isn't a heat wave Feb 3, the extra strain on SA electricity grid could see the event being held in the dark

Yes but look where they were held , sports mad city , with a lot of enployment , and disposable income , not SA home of the unemployed , and welfare benefits .
We will see , Adelaide is'nt a boxing city ,,, I mentioned it before , the biggest night they have had was at memorial drive , , and that card , had Jeff Fenech on ,, don't tell me he was'nt popular , he was even more popular than both these two ,,, They had Guy waters fighting world champ , Dennis Aundreas , great fight for the purist ,,, and they had local boy Chris Nicolau . who himself used to have no trouble pulling 4-5 thousand to watch him regular .. There attendance 7000 and Green Mundine is just a bullshit fight ,, so unless 20-3000 , interstate fans start to clamor for them airline tickets which are available ,,, the roads are going to be busy .
I could be wrong , but we'll see

Jeff Fenech fought in Adelaide in 1991. Likewise Guy Waters fought Dennis Andries in 1991, and Chris Nocolau retired in 1992.coneye wrote:.Like a Boss wrote:There were an estimated 9,000 at the Green vs Bolonti fight and 10,000 at the Green vs Watts fight. Check the calendar mate. 1992 was nearly 25 years ago!
It is now commonplace for people to fly-in-fly-out to sporting events. 25 years ago that certainly wasn't the case.
Since the Adelaide Oval was redeveloped in 2014 they have had at least 13 crowds in excess of 50,000 and they weren't all for Aussie Rules either.
Those "unemployed and on welfare benefits" people in Adelaide you talk about must have some disposable income after all
Re: Attendance Adelaide Feb 3rd - put up or shut up - what is your prediction?
Correct it was a long time ago .. But boxing was more popular in Adelaide then , around that time , they had a healthy pro scene .. and comparing these two old boxers has crowd pullers next to events like the crows - geelong , or the rolling stones concert is a bit out there .Like a Boss wrote:Jeff Fenech fought in Adelaide in 1991. Some of those crowds in excess of 50,000 in the last 2 years at Adelaide Oval were for events as diverse as domestic level games of cricket and soccer.coneye wrote:Correct it was a long time ago .. A lot has changed in 25 years. The world is a much smaller place because people now use aeroplanes like they did buses 25 years ago. Venues are almost irrelevant now because people simply fly-in-fly-out.
Have I got my ticket yet? No, but I tend to leave my decisions til late. I went to Green vs Watts though, and the joint was packed, and I see no reason why Green vs Mundine won't be as well.
Re: Attendance Adelaide Feb 3rd - put up or shut up - what is your prediction?
Like i said ,, we will wait and see ,, Some of the 50000 plus , like you said have been for cricket , soccer football and the rolling stones , we cannot even begin to compare adelaide utd , playing versus melbourne in soccer , or cricket , which has ALWAYS done huge numbers in Adelaide , or the crows , when most of SA support them ..
I hope for the sake of the paying public , that it is a big event and the atmoshere is terrific ,, and they get there moneys worth .. But unless the interstate crowds come , I just cannot see for the life of me . the Adelaide people turning out in there droves to make 30 000 plus in attendance
At a guess i would say , Adelaide has been picked , because they somehow conned the pollies into thinking its bigger than it is , hence they scored a shit load of money to put it on there , it allows the 30000 who would show up in Melbourne to watch , to now buy the ppv ,, Ok they lose a bit on ticket sales , but the SA govt collection fund eases the pain of that , and the ppv does the rest . And who knows ticket sales may even suprise us .. So Boss i would suggest you get in early , you might miss out if its going to be has big has you claim ...

Besides, if there's only going to be "closer to 5000 than 10,000" I won't need to rush will I?

Hard to find an update on how tickets sales are going.
Read they are planning on bringing over Michael Buffer to act as master of ceremonies though, and as he doesn't come cheap - his appearance fee is usually astronomical - one would have to think tickets are selling fairly well.

Given there's been nil mainstream media coverage since announcement, tix must be selling extremely well......maybe even sold out?Like a Boss wrote:Hard to find an update on how tickets sales are going.

BTW, publicized 500k State government's sponsorship is not cash in hand sort of arrangement. It's all to do with hire of Adelaide Oval, which is State government owned, hence no-one has kicked-up stink about it....if it goes ahead....all good, if not, so be it. Government ain't gonna be outta pocket. The Oval (not a bad joint - according to Mr Green) ain't all that active during Feb.
Main Event's usual production company , due to logistics, wants close to 95k to cover it & paid upfront by promoter. Main Event will then score 50% of each 59.95 subscription for its trouble.

Articles about the fight have appeared in the mainstream media over the past couple of days - Melbourne Herald Sun, Sydney Morning Herald, The West Australian, SBS, SEN radio, News.com.au, various boxing websites and the occasional mention on TV.AntonS wrote:Given there's been nil mainstream media coverage since announcement, tix must be selling extremely well......maybe even sold out?Like a Boss wrote:Hard to find an update on how tickets sales are going.
