Chris Eubank Jr vs Renold Quinlan to cost £12.95 on ITV pay-per-view
Not £20.00
Boxing fans will have to pay £12.95 to watch Chris Eubank Jr take on Renold Quinlan on ITV pay-per-view.
The fight - for the lightly-regarded IBO super-middleweight title - will take place at the Olympia in London on February 4.

Re: Chris Eubank Jr vs Renold Quinlan to cost £12.95 on ITV pay-per-view
£20 would have bombed
They've wisely gone below the standard £16-18 matchroom event price.
It was never going to be £3, they couldn't have gone that low and made a penny.
I won't be buying it and I think they were going to struggle to make this a success at any price but I would have thought the best chance they had of making it a success would have been in the region of £10.
If they get promoting the hell out of this it might just get enough interest to make this work.

wonder if eubank thought if he bandied around the £20 figure to get people upset they would think they were getting a bargain once they realised it was £12.99 ?

As Nelson was saying, I think ITV are testing the waters, I don't think they have much costs to cover, I hear Quinlan's purse is £44,000, i can assume Jr's will be much more, maybe even ppv shares.. I don't think they're looking for an immediate success.. but the price is much better.davie wrote:£20 would have bombed

Does anyone know ticket prices?

I didn't know Eubank was a member here? 1 person voted yes.
In all seriousness though, I understand the need for the PPV platform to raise additional monies to put on the big fights or loaded cards that otherwise cannot be delivered by tv platforms with their standard budget otherwise (or they at least lead us to believe
)
But in this instance, it's being used purely as a vehicle for greed. Neither fighter at the top of the bill merits a PPV status.
Sometimes two non-PPV fighters can make a PPV fight, such as Degale Groves - but one hasn't done enough, and the other fighter is completely unknown.
Anyone who happens to think ITV is even a force nowadays are badly mistaken. They do have a reach, but it's made up of grandma's who watch Xfactor on their freeview box their grandson had fitted for them as a xmas present. They are an audience that don't PAY for content already and ITV do not have sky's red button mechanism in place to hit 'buy' and it gets added to your next bill. ITV will need to take payment up front and so forth and to this day I've not seen any new PPV platform launch without big problems live on the night.
If they genuinely wanted to monetise the event, they should have taken it to the paid-content area of youtube and charged an insignificant amount such as £2 and put the event out worldwide. With most boxing fans having access to smart TV (either through their tv, amazon box or console) they can easily get youtube on the big screen, tablet or even phone.

It's funny Joshua v Whyte and Joshua v Martin both done over 400k PPV buys at a higher price.. This is a far better fight than both these fights.. Quinlon has beaten a genuine a world champion. This is worth 12.95 all day long. I think they were silly putting the undercard on ITV4 I hope they have used their brain and will put the Price and Galahad fights on the PPV they are both very difficult fights

I totally agree. Youtube would have been FAR better idea, ITV is a dinosaur compared to the reach of youtube.G0mez wrote:I didn't know Eubank was a member here? 1 person voted yes.

I think this will prove the death knell of boxing coverage on ITV, maybe not this event, but after a few more massively undersubscribed PPV flops.

Re: Chris Eubank Jr vs Renold Quinlan to cost £12.95 on ITV pay-per-view
I voted no. I'm not buying it. I wouldn't pay for it if it only cost 12p.
For three reasons.
1) I don't consider it a PPV fight / card.
2) ITV is a freeview channel. I object to them just deciding to charge extra for their sports coverage. It's greed.
3) After the Eubanks divved everybody about in the lead up to the GGG fight, and then made stupid comments about towels, I really don't feel like paying to see their fights on any channel.
I appreciate I am being somewhat idealistic, but we keep saying PPV only exists whilst their are mugs that'll pay for it. We've already let Sky get a stronghold now, and there's always going to be casuals that are willing to pay for any fight that Sky tell them is worth the money, but ITV are new to this. There's still an (admittedly unlikely) chance that if this fails, they'll stop trying to make stuff PPV.
Though I know taking a stance of not paying for ITV is unlikely to discourage them, I'm willing to try at this early stage.

I think it will be less than £1 million in revenue. Depending on what they're making the capacity, the live gate will probably do well.

Anyone even considering paying £12.95 for this should get their head examined.

Wasn't the undercard supposed to be free on ITV 4? Or was that just rumours?

If ITV and its sub channels push it - adverts, 24/7 type build ups, Jnr and Snr going on talk shows, maybe even a show of a day in the life of Jnr and snr..... this devious PPV might work. Snr is a character even if he's a tool and covers a generation of sports fans. Jnr covers the younger generation....

Serving up this "show" on PPV itv want kicked in the knackers

Definitely not, should be on the main ITV channel financed by adverts and sponsorship. Ideal opportunity to make a stand and hope the whole lot sinks
Re: Chris Eubank Jr vs Renold Quinlan to cost £12.95 on ITV pay-per-view
Purely from a boxing fan point of view I hope this crashes and burns.
I like Jr as a fighter a lot. He is very exciting.
However there is simply no other reason than pure greed that this fight is PPV. We're not talking about massive purses, we're not talking about a super fight, we're not even talking about an undercard. It's outrageous!
I also dont like the idea that ITV have come along, regardless of their intentions moving forward, and just tried to make a few quid out of boxing fans.
If ITV had offered this free to air and said, we're going to try and build up a boxing reputation for this channel with a view to putting on big PPV fights in the future then I could accept, however they have just swooped in with a crap fight and have asked fans to pay for it.

Re: Chris Eubank Jr vs Renold Quinlan to cost £12.95 on ITV pay-per-view
Agree totally, my thoughts exactly on the matter. The whole thing has an element of cobbled together farce about it. ITV should have done a couple of freebie shows and got their ducks in a row before trying to fleece people like this. It doesn't make sense and for that reason I won't be encouraging such nonsense by paying out for it.T w_savage wrote:AgreedMrJasonM wrote:Purely from a boxing fan point of view I hope this crashes and burns.
