The next "Undisputed" will be?

Post by imaioral »

A feat very tough to achieve and just for a few one (86 as far as I know in boxing history).

Who, in your opinion will be the next undisputed champion in next 1 maximum 2 years?

* Remembering the last who achieved it was in 2006 (Zab Judah) and 2007 (Jermain Taylor). :OhYes:

to me usyk, he is so much better than the rest of cw div. gold medal, undefeated, fought and beat the #1 cw. usyk gonne crush past prime huck, same goes for lebedev or grassiev. he beats everybody and should end up at heavyweight against josh in some years, he is to good for cw.

in this climate of ducks and cherry picks its nearly impossible. even ggg with his dominance and eagerness to chase belts still cant quite do it. probably ggg is the only guy who can do it in the foreseeable future. the other one is perhaps kovalev.

AJ will at least have the pull of $$$$ to help make the required fights

GGG is capable of doing it. But the system and the reluctance of people with belts to fight him will conspire against it.

The most logical choice is Ward.
His contract with HBO is up. 8f he signs with Showtime which essentially avoids Kovalev.
This frees up Adonis to fight Ward for the last piece of the puzzle. Easiest route to the belts

Golovkin is scheduled to compete for 4 belts in March. The only remaining title, the WBO, is vacant. Seems like he's the logical choice, considering how close he currently is.

IMO GGG. Lomachenko can easily defeat other champions at 130 lbs but dont think all fights happen

If Crawford stays at 140 he has a chance. Burns (WBA) is fighting Indongo (IBF), the winner could fight Crawford (WBC & WBO) to unify all 4 belts.

I think GGG will get all 4 eventually, unless the sanctioning bodies screw him over and make him choose between a mandatory defence and a mega fight at some stage.

I'd say Ward but I don't think Stevenson has any interest in fighting good opponents, and Haymon would prefer the WBC/Lineal title to stay in his stable, not go to RocNation.

Billy Joe Saunders is the WBO champion.

I think the winners of Jack/Degale and Garcia/Thurman should be added as they will be way closer to undisputed champion than most on that list.

If anyone is going to do it, it will be Golovkin.
But he needs to get Saunders to agree a fight before it can happen.

Frampton could be an outside bet. I fancy him to beat LSC & then Selby in the summer.

Considering the state of him last time out, is there much difference?

Joshua is unlikely. Heavyweight champion is too lucrative a title for one person to keep hold of; it took Wlad years to even get close. Even if Joshua is good enough to pull it off and can get all the fights made it'll take more than a couple of years I think.

Usyk is in a similar position though cruiserweight is less inherently lucrative though probably deeper. Could happen but two years is optimistic.

Ward, maybe. Nothing other than the TV companies would get in the way of a Ward-Kovalev rematch winner facing Stevenson for all the belts. But the TV companies probably would get in the way, right?

GGG has maybe the best chance. BJS has made some poor decisions with his title but I don't believe he is a coward at all. If Alvarez is out of the picture 'til after May that'd give Golovkin maybe just enough time to sort out a Saunders fight before Canelo's team can politic him out of one of the belts.

Crawford's chances depend majorly on Indongo beating Burns in their unification. Crawford-Burns II is unlikely.

Lomachenko has to convince three titlists to unify with him before he gets tempted by the bigger paydays and challenges at 135 and over.

Frampton, a small chance. He'd have to beat LSC again, fight and beat Gary Russell, Lee Selby and Oscar Valdez (no guarantees with those three at all) while negotiating whatever nonsense the WBA might throw at him in the meantime.

Gonzo has a long way to go, but maybe? I think Inoue beats him though anyway.

So in short, Golovkin is the most likely.

Probably not. I think he's a very good boxer but I don't think his mind is right. The belt might become a case of who the highest bidder is - Canelo or GGG.

Yeah, I guess he is. I did a search on boxrec and it came up with nothing for the WBO middleweight titlist. Must be a bug. On a related note, the WBO has made Alvarez the mandatory for BJS, so we'll see how that goes.

I think Crawford-burns II can happen. Eddie Hearn had been saying this week that is one they'd look to make as burns was coming off a broken jaw and it was still Crawfords most competitive (albeit a comfortable win) fight to date.
