Say what you want about Price but he can clearly crack.lillywhite14 wrote:People say too high risk but I'm not sure that's true. Price will still be threading water after the fight. Nobody is going to voluntarily give him a shot at the title, too high risk. And he's not good enough to work his way into a mandatory position without getting sparked
There's plenty of heavyweights around who offer more in them regards and as I originally said, he's not actually that high a risk. His much vaunted power saw old man Thompson get off the he canvas and come back and stop him. Perhaps his power isn't anything much beyond domestic level?

Re: Price v Hammer
Hasn't been enough for him to win a single fight beyond domestic level though, and it's now been around 5 years since his wins over Sexton and company.
I think he still gets overrated a bit based on his power and size. He was a clear favourite to beat Thompson in their rematch, despite losing that fight he was widely favoured to beat Teper, and despite being destroyed there he opened as a solid favourite against the guy who just beat Teper.

I bet against him in the Thompson fights and the Teper fight. Got 9/2 Thompson stoppage both times and 7/2 Teper stoppage.
I'll be backing price by stoppage in the hammer fight.

Easy WIlder, Klitschko, Ortiz, Joshua, Povetkin, Pulev, Parker, is Jennings still active, Takam, Stiverne, Whyte others who I think are better or have better resumes than Scott-(Haye, Chisora, Cunningham, Browne). Nobody would pick Hammer or Scott against any of those guys.Rob3_142 wrote:So just for kicks, who would make your top 10?world ranked wrote:Top ten of what. I'm taking not them bogus sansaction bodies or even boxrec rankings. Its not obsessing we know these guys aren't the top of the division. I think this tells you everything you need to know about why some people need to stop obsessing about rankings in this division.

I still don't think price beats thompson even at this stage. Would be beat chisora or Whyte? I doubt he'd even beat Hughie!

Sure, that's because every other facet of his game is so bad. He doesn't even give himself a chance to land shots any more.crusader wrote:Hasn't been enough for him to win a single fight beyond domestic level though

Personally, I'm gutted that the careers of Scott Gammer and Christian Hammer never crossed.

Based on what. Scott quits or doesn't fight in any of his fights recently. What has he done to think he ha been competive let alone beat anyone good.Horse wrote:I'd pick Hammer & Scott to beat Stiverne & Browne.world ranked wrote:Easy WIlder, Klitschko, Ortiz, Joshua, Povetkin, Pulev, Parker, is Jennings still active, Takam, Stiverne, Whyte others who I think are better or have better resumes than Scott-(Haye, Chisora, Cunningham, Browne). Thompson was 42 when Scott beat him and Price couldn't beat him in his late 30's so if Price wins how he be rated even he couldn't past prime guys.Horse wrote:Are Stiverne & Browne much better than Thompson & Glazkov?world ranked wrote:Based on what. Glazkov really lost to a great cruiserweight. Stiverne has stepped up versus world champs and was one and is a level above these guys. I'll conceide Browne but still is higher regarded that both Tjompson, Scott and Glazkov right now because he's in the world title picture and no one you named is even sniffing world level. Hammer isn't the best Europe offers let alone world class
Re: Price v Hammer
Stiverne has stepped up against world champs? How did he do in those fights?
He beat Arreola and that's pretty much it. He looked totally shitty against old Ray Austin and got handily outboxed for almost ten rounds; he also twice failed to beat journeymen and got dropped last fight by Rossy. He'll be 40 soon and is going on one fight in two years, so things aren't exactly looking up for him either.

anybody see any value in this?

I would Wait until stoppage odds. Gotta be even better value for Hammer in that.wesshaw1985 wrote:Price - 5/11

Not really. I think Hammer is a bit of a punt, and just over a 2/1 is a pretty weak return!wesshaw1985 wrote:Price - 5/11

Why is Price still so highly rated?Rob3_142 wrote:Not really. I think Hammer is a bit of a punt, and just over a 2/1 is a pretty weak return!
How many times does he have to be humiliated before people realise that he isn't very good?
Re: Price v Hammer
It's not so much that Price is highly rated, it's more to do with Hammer being lowly rated.Horse wrote:Why is Price still so highly rated?Rob3_142 wrote:Not really. I think Hammer is a bit of a punt, and just over a 2/1 is a pretty weak return!

Been splattered in all his fights above British level, yet was the comfortable favourite each time and is favourited yet again.
I remember being surprised at the Teper odds and expected many to bet on the Turk, but for some reason the consensus was that, despite his fragilities, Price was levels above. It seems a lot of people still highly value his size and power, though last time he fought a live opponent he was terrifed and hardly threw.
People say Hammer is short and has no power, but hes about the same height as Teper (ignore the bogus listings and look at the pics), and its not like someone has to be a huge puncher to hurt glasd chinnef opponents. Hammer knocking Larsen out cold suggests to me that Price will feel his shots.

Hammer is more of a boxer type and he can't outbox price you'd think. Not for the first 3-4 rounds anyway. Price should keep him at length for those rounds and possibly land a big right.
Problem is, it hardly takes Einstein to work out what price is going to do. If hammer conserves himself and extends him past 6, it's anyone's guess what happens. Because I doubt Price can do 12 rounds carrying around 20 stone and being as inactive as he is. 33 years old now as well.
