Chances raised much higher Canelo/GGG happening this year

Post by Jip »

the reason is the canelo-chavez fight. weight for the fight will be 164,5 pounds. the middleweight limit is 160. canelo has enough of 154 division and realizes that the big money fights are above 154. after the chavez bout canelo is going to face ggg. oscar said that 2017 the fight would happen and with the going higher in weight it only shows that it is going in that direction.

Canelo vs Chavez Jr

Canelo vs GGG

I said it, 2017 going to be a phenomenal boxing year :box: :bag: :OhYes:

Nah. The only way Canelo fights GGG next is if GGG looks vulnerable or looks to have deteriorated markedly when he fights Jacobs.

I can see Canelo fighting Saunders next or some such similar mismatch. With hindsight it seems as though Oscar had such a fright when his golden goose could've lost to Lara that he decided to send Canelo down the cherrypicking path.

For boxing fans it sucks but from a business perspective Oscar would be plain daft to risk Canelo's box office appeal being permanently downgraded by putting him in with GGG. If the fight was gonna happen it would've happened already

you give canelo to less credit. you think he wont fight ggg, cause ggg is hard to beat. well, he fought lara and floyd. canelo doesnt shy away from elite opponents. nobody wanted to face lara, lara meant not much money and a very athletic guy with fantastic footwork and great timing and speed, nobody wanted lara.

now you might tell me, that canelo is scared of ggg's punching power, let me to you, chavez jr weighing around 175 on fightnight might have equal punching power to ggg.

I give credit to Canelo for fighting Lara for all the reasons you state but since then he seems to have followed the Floyd Mayweather template of choosing diminished opponents. Whether Chavez at 175 punches as hard as GGG is a moot point.

Chavez in his current state is a JOKE opponent as were Smith and Khan before him. Canelo can keep picking guys who have no chance due to being too limited (Smith) or too light (Khan) or too weight drained and shot (Chavez) or too old and light (Cotto) for as long as Oscar can sell it to brainwashed Mexicans and that's all well and good for their bank balances but it's damaging Canelo's rep amongst boxing fans

khan and smith were joke opponents, true. chavez fought at light heavyweight and canelo is a super welterweight, u get my point. sure, chavez isnt by far a p4p boxer, but dude is big, powerful puncher, just has size and power on canelo. he is a dangerous opponent for canelo, cause canelo like to bang it out and chavez definitly in my oppnion has power and chin on canelo. who else is he going to fight after chavez, he will weigh at the middleweight limit and he wont make big bucks against c level middleweights. at the end floyd fought the big names, cause of $$$, so will canelo.

Canelo and GB showed their hand with the signing of this fight with JCCJR. It's all about the money grab-low risk fights that Floyd built his empire on and that's all their about now. GGG/Canelo is not happening in 2017. Golden Boy will come up with something after Canelo's fight in May and find a way to avoid GGG...maybe fake an injury so GGG has to commit to another fight or something more creative but it's not happening.

I think that the GGG/Canelo fight happens but not this year. Oscar knows that time is on his side and every month that goes by increases his boxer's chance at victory. It won't happen in 2017
