Minter v Antuofermo

1. 10 - 9 Minter. good southpaw jab and straight shots. Lively start from Vito but caught a few times
2. 9 - 10 Vito. Swarming style doing better job of getting by Minters jab
3. 10 - 9 Minter. Textbook stuff. Jab, straight left landing and right hook catch him if it doesn't
4. 10 - 9 Minter. A bit of a boxing lesson against a scrappy opponent. Doubling up the right now. Could see this get hard for Alan in latter rounds
5. 10 - 9 Minter, just. Needs to do more than jab and needs more authority in shots to stop him landing those looping shots
6. 10 - 9 Minter. Much closer rounds and Minter shipping a few but I still prefer Minters work overall
7. 9 - 10 Vito. Minter falling short with too many punches
8. 10 - 9 Minter. Close round. Minter looking wary about whats coming in, Vito closes the range so quickly.
9. 9 - 10 Vito. Tough one to call again, Minter looks to be boxing well but caught with too many cuffing shots
10. 9 - 10 Vito I am not enjoying watching this guy fight but he is having success
11. 10 - 9 Minter. Probably favouring his cleaner work upstairs over Vito's more varied attacks. Would understand it going the other way, particularly as Vito had him rocked a bit towards the end
12. 10 - 10 Even. Spells of success and failure for both men here
13. 10 - 9 Minter keeping throwing out the one-two and having enough success to take it.
14. 8 - 10 Vito. Was the knockdown scored? It was a strange one as Minter had just landed the only solid punch of the round. Regardless, it was Vito's first really clear round.
15. 10 - 9 Minter. Good response and dug deep in that final round

144 - 141 Minter
When I looked at the judges score cards I wondered how Dakin could score it to Minter by 12 rounds and Sanchez to Antuofermo by 2. But I think I understand now.
I landed somewhere in the middle but this was a fight where Jim Watt would not have tired telling us "it's a bit of what you like"
There were a few I scored to Vito where he was having success but he was crude and Minter looked fairly well in control with his boxing.
Equally there were a few where I scored to Minter for cleaner work, particularly straight head shot (which I ussually give more credit to) while Vito was the aggressor and landing some solid, albeit messy shots and getting some good work in downstairs.

I think those cards I mentioned are still a bit wide, on a different day and in a different mood I could make a case for a draw or perhaps 6 or 7 rounds in favour of Minter but I do see how it was a fight that had a fair disparity in scores.

As for the fighters, Minter was a nice effective boxer who was happy letting shots go in combination, while Antuofermo was not pleasant to watch. I know which I'll watch again.

Prior to the 52 week challenge, I'd only seen both men in with Hagler. It was a couple years back but I cannot fathom how Antuofermo got a draw with the Marvelous one, I also don't remember him being as untidy a fighter.

Minter vs Hagler was fun while it lasted. Not dissimilar in styles but the difference in levels was apparent. Hagler just did everything better, more fluid and relaxed and quicker to the punch, picked the right shots and did damage when he landed.

Minter got caught early in the 2nd and had a bit of the Amir Khans and let the bravado take over, from then in he tried to put it on Hagler when he attacked and he was never going to last long like that. Stopped on bad cuts.

I like what I've seen of Minter but this was world class against the elite
