Canelo Alvarez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - May 6th. CONFIRMED.
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - May 6th. CONFIRMED.
Truth is it's a mainstream Mexico sports fan type of fight.
I'll support it to support Mexican boxing but that's it.
For me it looks like Canelo knows he has to fight GGG at 160 and is cashing in on Chavez I can hardly blame him, it almost signals the big one is done and dusted for later in the year.
Were Alvarez to lose or not fight GGG will be enormously embarrassing and the Mexicans won't allow that.

If Chavez makes 164.5, Canelo stops him. Jr should come at 167.5-168, pay 3-3.5 mil, but at least he could be competitive. If he wins, his star power will become high enough to easily compensate those 3 mil.

Even coming in at 180 I don't think it'd make much difference to be honest. Canelo's just better than him.boxing_rocks wrote:If Chavez makes 164.5, Canelo stops him. Don't see Chavez Jr beating Canelo Alvarez. Easy win for Canelo. This fight borderlines on a cherry pick fight. Not so sure of the Big Showdown Part the promoters are claiming it to be. More like the big Beatdown. Canelo beating down Chavez Jr.

- This a fight for the haters to gnash themselves toothless over dangling cherries.
It was always available but for Jrs sloppy personal habits, so it is he who is cashing out. Canelo still building to golovkin will at least start the year with a record setting type fight. Nattering nabobs of negativism gnash no matter who they fight. Sr to be all over Jr in this one, so the only weight factor is fight nite 185 Canelo vs 195 Jr, an old school Mexican heavyweight brawl.
Jr KTFO Lee and destroyed the career of HOFer Martinez, so anyone who says this will be easy, well I have some futures in denture stocks for you.

It's pretty obvious that Canelo is avoiding Golovkin at this point, or at least waiting for him to show real signs of decline

Not even voting because the fight is a total irrelevant joke. Canelo is a joke and everyone should ignore him until he does what he, golden boy and everyone knows what he should do.

Canelo goes along with it!!tiny_acres wrote:Without Canelo Oscar would go bankrupt.
Oscar will not rusk Canelo losing. This is why we won't see him face GGG
Canelo is not the coward. Oscar is

JCCJR has been putting Canelo down through the media for years and there's been a competition between the two to be Mexico's most popular fighter. Canelo has assumed Cinco De Mayo weekend as his weekend to schedule his fights and JR hates it. Before JR's career hit a wall with losses, he was just a big in Mexico as Canelo. Now its not close but with a win, JR could take that spot back.ElJefe wrote:caldo2025 wrote:Look at all of these idiots criticizing this fight. This is probably going to be the most entertaining fight of the year considering the hatred they have for each other, Mexican pride on the line and their boxing styles are a GREAT match. Both guys have granite chins so this has no other choice but to be a long, bloody, drag out war. I love it. It's great for Boxing. This will be the highest grossing fight of the year when it's all said and done.

I love both of these guys.
Hate to see one of them lose.
But the better conditioned, more dedicated Canelo figures to take it.
Only 6 fights in the past 4+ years for Junior. Inactivity has a price.
Should be an absolute war. A Cinco de Mayo classic.
The only guys who badmouth it are those ubiquitous Gigi lovers who childishly deride Canelo no matter what he does.
Taking on a threat as big as Junior is nothing to sneer at.
Canelo is challenging a motivated, dangerous giant. Gigi fights absolute dead bodies, welters and lives in a delusion of greatness.
Is Canelo-Chavez the biggest all-Mexican showdown in boxing history?
I remain partial to the unforgettable 1977 Zarate-Zamora brawl at the Forum.
The Battle of the Z Boys matched the two unbeaten bantamweight champs in an over the weight bout.
The Mexican KO artists went toe-to-toe until the classier Zarate pummeled his ex-stablemate to the canvas in 4 rounds.
If Canelo-Chavez is half as scintillating, then it's a cinch Fight of the Year.
