At this point I think Loma would Gary Russell him. He probably beats up the likes of Vargas and Sosa.
Tank can fight. He has been beating up on boxers from my gym since he was 12 years old. After the fight i was thinking I would like to see him with Loma but I agree that he's not ready yet and his people won't risk it.
Though he is signed by Floyd, they had a falling out some time ago that maybe has gotten better but Floyd wanted him to move to Vegas and even gave him money to move his mother. Word is he spent the money and does not want to leave Baltimore. He's been with his coach Calvin Ford since the beginning. Calvin is the guy the character "Cutty" from "The Wire" is based off of. Calvin did 10 yrs in federal for being a drug kingpin in B'more. He's a good dude who has dedicated his life to saving kids from the streets but it's a tough job. He has unfortunately lost two really good boxers who were murdered on the streets. He's got some other good boxers in the pipeline like Malik Hawkins 10-0 and a really good amateur Lorenzo "Truck" Simpson who has won many national championships.
Gervonta Davis looked excellent against Jose Pedraza, but I've not seen enough of him to endorse absurd claims about him being the second coming of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
However, I honestly expect to read posts on this forum that boldly proclaim him to be one of the greatest super-featherweights of all time.
People will also be speculating about whether fighters such as Azumah Nelson, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Alexis Arguello etc. would be capable or even worthy of carrying Gervonta Davis' jockstrap.
I'm also eagerly waiting to read all the accusations about Gervonta's cowardly rivals all "ducking" him.
Gervonta Davis is clearly a talented kid with a lot of potential, but let's not get too carried away just yet.

Ive read some accounts of him being a gym bully....do you think there is truth to that ?

Calvin or Tank? I've never seen it with Calvin when I have been there with my boxers sparring. He's the boss there but not in a bullying way. Tank will take some shots after the bell but that's boxing. Protect yourself at all times. The gym is in a tough neighborhood with lots of crime right outside the door. The gym attracts lots of young kids looking for some direction in their lives but they're kids from some effd up homes and it takes a certain right kind of coach to keep order. Calvin has produced some really good boxers and if he was a bully probably a lot of the young kids wouldn't stick around. His record of success would say otherwise. I am curious where you heard that.
Ive heard that about Tank on some other forums. Basically that he talks a lot of trash and in sparring goes overboard against much less experienced and capable fighters, including amateurs. I think one of the guys who made the comments was referring to how Davis carried himself during sessions at the Mayweather gym, rather than in Baltimore with Ford.
Could be totally untrue though. Incidentally, I notice that in 2014 he was part of an anti-bullying campaign.

I could see that a little bit. He spanked all of my boxers that I put in with him from the time he was a kid weighing 100 lbs. He has power. You only get better fighting better boxers but I don't have anybody i would put in with him now as he is too good. I would say that he was always pretty respectful to my guys coming to his gym to give him some work. Now in Floyd's gym I could see that. I've seen videos of the dog pound or whatever he calls his sparring sessions. Everybody is talking trash unless they are getting their butt kicked. i did see a video today of a sparring session in Tanks Upton gym in B'more. He's sparring a guy with one pro fight who held his own. The guy is named Keegan Grove from DC. I have never heard of him from the amateurs and I know or am familiar with most of the good DMV amateurs. He might be a guy to keep an eye on in the future. Check him out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNUnm2xJ-TM&t=3s
What weight? You all out of it if you think that little squirt is gonna raise to super-star-dom. Handicap!
Oh Sure, could happen. But..is highly unlikely. Plus, from what some say here, the man is only average.
Really, I am so very excited about the boxer that when I leave here won't even be Abe to tell you a name.
But. Right! He could raise. But I seriously doubt it.

I'd never heard of him until the weekend, just been catching up on YouTube, he looks like an amazing talent, I thought he sounded punchy in some interviews though, hope not.
