Issue for SKY - and effect on boxing coverage

One of the papers mentioned this morning that SKY, last week, quietly announced that the viewing figures for live Premiership matches was down 13% from the previous year, and down a whopping 25% since 2010. The journalist suggested that this was NOT because less people were watching live football, it was simply the case that the quality of live' streaming' was such that many thousands were simply no longer willing to pay the SKY subscriptions.
With BT capturing the Champions League and the downturn in viewing figures SKY must obviously have concerns ( as should the Premiership owners), which partially explains the increase in PPV boxing shows, after all, the revenue gap has got to be plugged somehow. I would safely predict further increases in the numbers of PPV events over the next few years, which will effect my ability to watch live boxing because I simply refuse to pay ANYTHING extra via the PPV route no matter whose fighting. But maybe I'll just have to join the young brigade and go for live streaming ( whatever that is !!! ).

There's one vice I can't stand , and that's greed, especially when those people flaunt their wealth in front of others and sneer at those who oppose their methods. I can't wait until the whole PPV experiment crashes and burns, and it WILL do. You only have to look at why it failed previously when FW couldn't supply the quality fights and folk switched off. SKY have a deal with Matchroom, and nobody else. Eddie Hearn is in a corner. He MUST continue to attract the best fighters and negotiate the best fights. When he starts to struggle because the top fighters will have other options ( BT Sport/ BoxNtn, ITV etc) then it will begin to implode. I can't wait!

Find out what streaming is and then forget all about paying sky or any of the rip off broadcasters.

I don't think it will ever fail as a model as it seems that people are happy to ignore the longer term issues of ppv for a relatively cheap nights entertainment.

I agree with you and i will only buy ppv's that i deem worthy of it and that basically means superfight level. Mayweather v Pacquiao & Fury v Wlad are the last 2 i've bought. Things like Joshua v A Plodder or Bellew v Cleverly are not going to get me spending my money on it. If i was that interested in such a fight, i'd go along to it.

Everyone has a choice in what they do and if that suits people's lifestyles and makes them happy then who am i to tell them to stop. £15 + a few beers and a takeaway is probably cheaper than a night at the cinema or pub as well. If you get it in and a few mates then get the beer and food, it's even cheaper and becomes a social get together which as you get older is harder to come by so i can see all the arguments for and against it

Yes, but you should be able to do the same night in without the £15 extra for PPV.

I found out what streaming is , and quite like it , I'm not ashamed to admit it ,, Its not the money i can afford PPV ,,, bUT i just don't like paying twice for a service ,, Its called taking the piss , and my freinds i just refuse to allow them to piss on my back and tell me its raining .

If you refuse to pay PPV then why not to stream it indeed, like all normal people.

I cant see why should it implode though. PPV brings the most money for fighters as well. Therefore the top men will join the platform that delivers PPV. And thats why all the other networks will also do PPV. ITV is doing PPV for a fight that nobody wants to see free for fornicate sake.
