Could 2017 not only be a good year, but arguably the best boxing year ever?
Could 2017 not only be a good year, but arguably the best boxing year ever?
I mean Joshua-Klitschko, Thurman-Garcia is good, but with Canelo going up in weight to face Chavez, than only big money name is GGG (who himself got a great fight against Jacobs). with Wilder, Ortiz waiting for J/K winner. with one of the best fights ever in Kythrov vs Alleem. with Spence surely boxing Brook. Kovalev/Bertebiev ?, Gonzales/Inoue ?, Crawford moving @147 ?
I know i am a bit exagerating, but this year is boooming, i mean, every week your hear storys about potential big fights or big fights being signed, this is fantastic.

2017 should be a good year, much better than 2016.

Re: Could 2017 not only be a good year, but arguably the best boxing year ever?
If 80% of these fights happen, it will be a really good year:
Joshua vs Klit
Winner of the above vs Wilder
Usyk vs Gassiev or Lebedev
Kovalev vs Ward rematch
Stevenson vs Ward or Jack
Kovalev vs Beterbiev
Any combination of Ramirez/Callum Smith/DeGale
Golovkin vs Canelo
Golovkin vs BJS (if he still has the belt)
Any combination of Andrade/Charlos/Lara/Brook
Brook vs Spence
Thurman vs Garcia
Pac vs Crawford
Linares vs Mikey
Any combination of Loma/Davis/Corrales/Vargas/Salido
Any combination of Inoue/Gonzalez/Cuadras
Joshua vs Klit
Winner of the above vs Wilder
Usyk vs Gassiev or Lebedev
Kovalev vs Ward rematch
Stevenson vs Ward or Jack
Kovalev vs Beterbiev
Any combination of Ramirez/Callum Smith/DeGale
Golovkin vs Canelo
Golovkin vs BJS (if he still has the belt)
Any combination of Andrade/Charlos/Lara/Brook
Brook vs Spence
Thurman vs Garcia
Pac vs Crawford
Linares vs Mikey
Any combination of Loma/Davis/Corrales/Vargas/Salido
Any combination of Inoue/Gonzalez/Cuadras

Re: Could 2017 not only be a good year, but arguably the best boxing year ever?
I said Yes to 8 out of 16 with a couple of maybes. So around 50%, which is better than what we've got over the past few years.boxing_rocks wrote:If 80% of these fights happen, it will be a really good year:
Joshua vs Klit - Yes.
Winner of the above vs Wilder - Yes. if Joshua wins.
Usyk vs Gassiev or Lebedev - No. I think Gassiev will rematch Lebedev and the winner will take a mandatory.
Kovalev vs Ward rematch - No. Don't think Ward wants it.
Stevenson vs Ward or Jack - Yes. I think we've got a good chance of Stevenson vs Jack.
Kovalev vs Beterbiev - No.
Any combination of Ramirez/Callum Smith/DeGale - No. I think Smith fights for vacant WBC, DeGale fights in UK and they build it for next year.
Golovkin vs Canelo - Yes. Might be optimistic but I think it will.
Golovkin vs BJS (if he still has the belt) - Depends on above. If GGG gets Canelo, BJS will be safe until next year, if not, then GGG is coming.
Any combination of Andrade/Charlos/Lara/Brook - Yes. Should get 1 or 2. Probably a Charlo vs Lara.
Brook vs Spence - No. Brook will look for Khan/Manny or move up.
Thurman vs Garcia - Yes.
Pac vs Crawford - No.
Linares vs Mikey - Possibly. I expect both to win their next fights and both happy to take tough fights so that could get made.
Any combination of Loma/Davis/Corrales/Vargas/Salido - Yes. Loma vs Corrales apparently being made for April.
Any combination of Inoue/Gonzalez/Cuadras - Yes. I think we'll get the Roman/Cuadras rematch.
Re: Could 2017 not only be a good year, but arguably the best boxing year ever?
Not much has to happen to make it a better year than 2016. A WHOLE LOT has to happen to make it the best Boxing year ever.

another good news.

canelo moving up in weight for chavez, than only money option is ggg
gvozdyk and bertebiev becoming more known, climbing ranks, in summer or end this year they will get a shot at kov or ad
huck is now facing breidis. usyl will certainly fight a money fight against lebedev or glowacki rematch, either way, good fights
klitschko-joshua is a big time fight. ortiz is signed to matchroom, winner is facing ortiz, wilder wants parker, this year everything happens
thurman vs garcia is a great match up. spence has enough of small budget fights, he wants the big bucks. he gonne get it against brook or winner of t/g
crawford will also smell $$$$$$$ with all the big names at 147 and not much cash to make at his weight, this year he moves up and the showdowns between him and the top 147 boxers will be epic. i see him having one big fight at the end of 2017 against a star opponent.

You're setting your hopes too high. You're bound to be disappointed. Boxing doesn't deliver that consistently.Jip wrote:gilgamesh wrote:Not much has to happen to make it a better year than 2016. A WHOLE LOT has to happen to make it the best Boxing year ever.

That’s a great list of fights. Unfortunately, there’s a whole host of reasons why at least half of them won’t happen, but I genuinely like your optimistic attitude and I’d be overjoyed if 50% of these contests came to fruition.boxing_rocks wrote:If 80% of these fights happen, it will be a really good year:

We'll only know at the end of 2017 unfortunately, so much shit can happen and not all of it will be good. If half of those fights happen id consider it a good year.

huck breidis both signed contracts
canelo moves up for chavez, which is a good fight, cause chavez is naturaly bigger, has arguably the best chin in boxing and punches hard, for lara the chavez fight would be easy, cause lara would move all day and win every rd, but for slow footed canelo it will be hard to exchange punches with a guy who has super middleweight kind of power and light eavyweight kind of chin
i mean, i just have the feeling that 2017 anything goes, there is something in the air. the last 10 years i often had a negativ feeling towards fights happeneing, certainly in the money mayweather era. but this year, new fresh air is coming to boxing. the superstars know the biggest money they can make is by facing the biggest names and i just feel this year all will happen. why would matchroom sign ortiz, if not a big showdown vs josh. why does canelo move up in weight, to come back to 154 after the chavez fight and fight dangerous but litle pay check charlo bros, hell no. he isnt that stupid, he knows, to fill a stadium and make huge ppv cash he needs names like chavez, ggg. ggg is the only guy left, beside canelo and ggg there arent no ppv stars around 154, midd and sm. only option is ggg.
Re: Could 2017 not only be a good year, but arguably the best boxing year ever?
It's definitely going to be a great year for fight fans considering the fights that have already been scheduled. The only thing that concerns me is Floyd Mayweather. I just hope that his promotion company continues to only land a few stars because the last thing that boxing needs is for this guy to take over the sport from the management side. Then no one will be fighting each other. He'll avoid matching his boxers up competitively like he did his whole career ducking people.

At the top we've already had Degale vs Jack, and we have Frampton Vs LSC II, Vargas vs Berchelt, Miura vs Roman, Gonzalez vs Srisaket, Zlaticanin vs Garcia, GGG vs Jacobs, Huck vs Briedis and Linares vs Crolla II all lined up...
At least looks good so far
