Anybody thinks that GGG may be past of his best days and have a tough fight vs Jacobs ?
IMO his best performances in terms of domination are against decent guys like Lemieux and Murray. Fighters with speed that let their hands go at times like Stevens, Monroe Jr. and Brook showed that GGG is vulnerable to this kind of style. I don't take this crap that GGG let these guys to hit him flush with their best shots 'to give people big drama show'. GGG's face expression tells all you need to know that he didn't liked to get hit straight in the face. I think GGG will have his hands full against Jacobs.

Ya, it could be tough.
What do you think the result will be?

Re: Anybody thinks that GGG may be past of his best days and have a tough fight vs Jacobs ?
I still think that GGG is the best fighter in the world. I didn't love how he looked against Brook but he's still the best in the world to me. Jacobs is no joke and has some serious power and height to contend with so the fight does concern me. Jacobs will prepare too and come in the ring unintimidated in front of his home state crowd. It's going to be a VERY VERY tough fight for GGG.
I still think that GGG gets the KO around the 9th round in this one. But Jacobs COULD have picked a perfect time to fight GGG if you're right. I guess it's always possible. The only thing that i do know is that GGG will get zero credit for knocking Jacobs out PER USUAL. The critics will come up with some reason why it was a cherry picked fight for GGG. In reality, this would be his best win IMO>

I haven't seen anything to indicate GGG is past his best yet including the Brook fight.
I'm expecting an 8th or 9th road KO once Jacob's slows down and can't keep moving side to side as quickly.

I think GGG will get the stoppage in the later rounds after a very difficult fight-more like a chess match fight. Anyway I'm not ruling out a possible win of Jacobs via UD by boxing smartly.crusader wrote:Ya, it could be tough.

Yup, this could be a very well timed moment for Jacobs to defeat GGG. GGG was somewhat 'exposed' by fighters like Stevens, Monroe Jr and Brook by showing that if you let your hands go - create speed and punch variation you can disrupt GGG's stalking mode. Jacobs could be the guy to derail GGG's train due of his skills, size, power and speed. Also Jacobs is in his peak of his prime at 29 y/o.caldo2025 wrote:I still think that GGG is the best fighter in the world. I expect a very, very well prepared Jacobs. GGG is in a tough one.Mr. Plainview wrote:I haven't seen anything to indicate GGG is past his best yet including the Brook fight.

I agree, I think in the Brook fight, Golovkin had no respect for his power, until he felt itMr. Plainview wrote:I haven't seen anything to indicate GGG is past his best yet including the Brook fight.

I think GGG is so confident in his chin that he doesn't mind taking shots.
It's interesting that when he fought the ferocious punching Lemieux GGG controlled the fight from range and barely had a glove landed on him. In short I think he respected Lemieux's power enough to take measures to negate it. Normally he just doesn't seem to bother, just walks through shots.

Re: Anybody thinks that GGG may be past of his best days and have a tough fight vs Jacobs ?
After watching GGG against Geale and Rubio in 2014, I questioned whether he was regressing and fighting too much of a 'Mexican style', neglecting his defense and taking more punishment than necessary. Against Martin Murray, he clearly had no respect for his power and it was only Murray's toughness that was keeping him in the fight. Against Willie Monroe, it was clear that Monroe's slick defensive style was ineffective, and when he switched to fighting on the inside and using his superior handspeed in combinations, GGG took some punishment. He claimed it was deliberate, but I wasn't so sure. Then GGG put on an absolute masterclass against David Lemieux, convincing me that he hasn't really regressed and has this more defensively responsible style up his sleeve for when he needs it. He looked great against an overmatched Dominic Wade and - by his standards - poor against Kell Brook, although we must remember that Brook is clearly the most skilled guy GGG has faced to date and almost certainly had more power than Geale, Murray or Monroe, so it's not surprising he marked up GGG a bit before being stopped.
What worries me isn't GGG's age, it's his relative lack of activity. By the time he steps into the ring against Jacobs, he will have fought just five full rounds in the previous 18 months. I would have liked to have seen his team scrambling a last-minute opponent for a fight in December last year - even if it meant fighting someone like Wade again. Heiland would have been good.

Jacobs hits nearly as hard as Lemieux and unlike the Canadian, is taller than GGG with longer reach and faster hands, not to mention better skills than Lemiuex. I don't think GGG will be able to outbox him with ease like he did Lemieux. That said, my prediction is a 5th round TKO for GGG.Ian1973 wrote:I think GGG is so confident in his chin that he doesn't mind taking shots.

The only big minus I see in Jacobs is his soft chin. If GGG lands solid that left hook right there it's good night for Jacobs.jezzamundo wrote:Jacobs hits nearly as hard as Lemieux and unlike the Canadian, is taller than GGG with longer reach and faster hands, not to mention better skills than Lemiuex. Anything is possible at 35, but if it is not a sudden huge degradation, then GGG still wins. If Jacobs lets his hands go, then I expect an early KO by GGG, around 2nd-3rd round. If Jacobs selects to use jab, move and keep Golovkin at a distance, it may go 8-9 rounds.

Based on his fights, I actually think Jacobs' best chance is to fight on the inside as much as possible - I don't see anyone having much success against GGG from the outside - he's just too good at cutting off the ring and closing the distance.boxing_rocks wrote:Anything is possible at 35, but if it is not a sudden huge degradation, then GGG still wins. Stylistically a natural 160 lbs version of Andre Ward who masters the inside game would frustrate the hell out of GGG. Canelo with his fast combos and slick movement could beat GGG.jezzamundo wrote:Based on his fights, I actually think Jacobs' best chance is to fight on the inside as much as possible - I don't see anyone having much success against GGG from the outside - he's just too good at cutting off the ring and closing the distance.boxing_rocks wrote:Anything is possible at 35, but if it is not a sudden huge degradation, then GGG still wins. 160 lbs prime James Toney would beat GGG imo. He had the right style to beat GGG.

I didn't say that he would succeed fighting from the outside. He would just postpone the end. Trying to fight inside could work if he was good at it and had a good chin. Otherwise, he gets stopped anyway.jezzamundo wrote:Based on his fights, I actually think Jacobs' best chance is to fight on the inside as much as possible - I don't see anyone having much success against GGG from the outside - he's just too good at cutting off the ring and closing the distance.boxing_rocks wrote:Anything is possible at 35, but if it is not a sudden huge degradation, then GGG still wins. Jacobs' chin might be a decisive factor. He is tall (for MW) and strong, but his chin is not the best one.
Re: Anybody thinks that GGG may be past of his best days and have a tough fight vs Jacobs ?
I think Golovkin may be in for a tough fight against Jacobs whether he's past his best days or not. Jacobs is the most dangerous guy he's faced up to now in all likelihood.

LMAO. Canelo and slick don't go hand in hand. The same Toney who had so much problems with Dave Tiberi? I don't think so. Triple G would beat him from the outside for a 12 round UD.apollo creed wrote:Stylistically a natural 160 lbs version of Andre Ward who masters the inside game would frustrate the hell out of GGG. Toney could be outworked and outhustled as a Middleweight, probably because he just never really belonged at that weight. I can't imagine Golovkin wouldn't get the better of him at Middleweight.Baby Face Finster wrote:LMAO. Canelo and slick don't go hand in hand. The same Toney who had so much problems with Dave Tiberi? Khan was landing just fine, and so were Cotto and Lara. None of them could trouble him though. Lara was mainly concerned about not being hit, Khan is not strong enough, and Cotto had a mix of the first two... And we all remember how Mayweather schooled Canelo.apollo creed wrote:Ciannamon Canelo has some pretty damn slick waist&head moves for his thick body.Baby Face Finster wrote:LMAO.
