As the new Champ he and a buddy were just trying to pick up some chicks in the new caddillac at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia I believe.
I know its mentioned in Nick Toshes book somewhere.
Trying to kidnap some chicks more like it. He and his buddy chased down a woman they didn't know, cut her off in a secluded part of the park and ordered her to the side of the road. They pretended to be policemen and tried to get her to come with them when a park guard showed up. The jumped in their car and sped away as the guard gave chase. They turned off their headlights in an attempt to avoid identification they went 80 miles an hour before they were halted. When they were forced to stop Liston's friend got out and tried to run until the guard fired a warning shot forcing him to halt. So yeah, I'm sure they were completely innocent and it was all a misunderstanding. LOL. This was more than a year before he won the title and came just shortly after Liston was forced by the Kefauver commission to change managers because his previous manager had been shown to be a mob front man.

What was Sonny's version of the events ?
because he was a well known practical joker.
and its well known that "the Fuzz" in Philadelphia was always hassling him and looking for a reason (they (the Police) all even drove around in their squad cars with a small photo of him taped on their dashboards)
could have been just some misunderstandinhg.

Yeah right. It was a practical joke st 3am in a secluded park. And it wasnt the police hassling him, it was a park guard thag came upon him hassling this woman. Or do you think the parks division was out to get him as well? Dont be intentionally stupid just because this thug was a participant of the sport you enjoy trolling. Had that happened to your mom, sister, or daughter youd breathing a sigh of relief.
One of my favorite Sonny Liston stories was told to me by Jack Nilon.. He was a good friend of Lyndon Banes Johnson, the Vice President and future President of the United States.. One day LBJ, Nilon, and Sonny went to a ballgame together and Johnson was very impressed by Liston.. Liston wasn’t Heavyweight Champion yet so he was just another boxer, but physically he was very intimidating. Johnson had big hands, but they were like a little girls hands next to Liston's.. The size and hardness of Liston's arms and shoulders freaked LBJ out.
.
Johnson didn’t have secret service protection and was free to come and go as he pleased. Interestingly enough, he didn’t catch a lot of notice from passers by. He brought Liston and Nilon up to his hotel room and poured them drinks, showed Liston all kinds of political memorabilia and dominated the conversation.. LBJ went to the can for a minute and Liston said to Nilon, “What do you say we blow this bum off?”
LBJ was actually boring the crap out of them, but before the horrified Nilon could reply, Johnson came back into the room. Liston said, “Lyndon, it was nice to meet you. Me and Jack have a few things to do so we’ll be on our way. I’m sure we’ll catch you around” and started for the door. Nilon said, “Yeah we had a wonderful time, but we really have to run Lyndon. Let’s do it again as soon as possible.”
Nilon caught up to Liston and started laughing. “That’s the Vice President of the United States and you just blew the bum off.”
