Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Since Floyd calls himself TBE who's the bigger legend out of these two and why?
Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Tyson
More of an aura about him for one thing, more exciting, I do appreciate mayweathers defensive boxing, but Tyson was definitely more exciting.
Mayweather no doubt achieved big things and done really well for himself but I'd say Tyson is more of a legend

Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Tyson knocked people out in exciting fashion. Even during Mayweather's active years there were more people in the world aware of Mike Tyson than there were aware of Mayweather.
That'll never change.

Floyd by a mile. He's a few tiers above Tyson.

I don't see how you could say that with any confidence. More people paid to see Floyd.gilgamesh wrote:Tyson knocked people out in exciting fashion. Even during Mayweather's active years there were more people in the world aware of Mike Tyson than there were aware of Mayweather.

Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
This is the BEST reel of Tyson by far? When can I find a Mayweather film of this caliber? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBDsfGTQpdc
Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Probably Tyson now but in 10 years more people will appreciate Floyd and his career than it is now.
And for the welterweight all time list where for 10 years took a better place than it is today.

Easily Tyson
IMO he's an iconic, worldwide figure beyond boxing in a way Floyd isn't, regardless of how many US PPVs Floyd sold.

Same here At a family reunion maybe half would know Floyd; all would know Tyson and the aura he had. Lauaghble to say that Floyd is a mile ahead of him if you're not just going on ability and accomplishments.DannyMCR wrote:Tyson

Incidentally, I remember Wlad's manager being asked why they scheduled a fight on the same day Floyd was boxing, and he said because in Germany hardly anyone knows or cares about Mayweather. His stardom seems far more confined to me than Tyson's.

Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
I was speaking in regards to accomplishment with the miles comment. I honestly don't know about the fame. Still vote Floyd for his overwhelming edge in career. If Mike is moderately more famous Floyd's career is a much more decided edge and his career will be looked at as even greater down the line.i was think globally Tyson was significantly bigger, Floyd gets a rub from Manny.crusader wrote:Same here At a family reunion maybe half would know Floyd; all would know Tyson and the aura he had. I agree. Tyson by a mile. Even on the boxing forums there are more talks/threads about Tyson now, when is is retired for more than a decade. But Floyd, of course, should be ranked higher than Mike in all-time list. No question about that for me.crusader wrote:Easily Tyson

Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Pure fame....Tyson.
But not only for "boxing" reasons. But more for the following reasons.
1. For a while he amazed pure boxing fans as he ascended the sport of boxing
2. For a while he electrified general sports fans as he ascended sports in general
3. For a while he shocked the public with both sports and personality aspects.
4. For a while his "KO snippets" were iconic
5. For a while he stupefied the media with his outrageous behavior and winning ways
6. His defeat was unimaginable and only heightened awareness of his existence
7. For a while he offended women all over the planet...beyond just the sport fan female
8. His going to prison just aroused interest in his potential "comeback and redemption" possibilities.
7. His regaining some belts caught everyone's attention beyond boxing fans, as it appeared ACT II was going to eclipse ACT I
8. He created an "ear bite felt around the world moment" in his second stunning loss. Stunning because once again...it seemed nearly unimaginable.
9. His decline was something watched with nearly as much amazement as his ascent. Like a car crash, few people could do little else but stare with gaping jaws.
So the boxing career of Mayweather was better.
But as world wide personality and "reality show" curiosity.....Tyson......... easily.

Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Yet Floyd dusted him in ppv at double the cost in worse economic times.

You're right, I think ODLH did pretty well on that score as well. But bad economic times has always favored the fight game.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yet Floyd dusted him in ppv at double the cost in worse economic times.
if that is your measure...then yes, you'd have to give it to Floyd. But once again, that circles around the pure boxing enthusiast.

Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Nah, the pure boxing enthusiast doesn't order over 4 million ppvs for a fight. For example fight fans were very excited for Crawford/postol and it sold 50. Jack/degale just did 450 on showtime. Floyd is also at a time with social media. I just don't see how Floyd being so much more accomplished doesn't factor into legend? He'll be consensus top 10 in a few decades. I will say the boxing enthusiast was a much bigger population in Mike's day, so some of them that stopped watching may have turned into the bigger fights for a trip down memory lane. Just not nearly enough for that disparity. Floyd is pretty clear in America, though everybody here knows them both.BoxBuzz wrote:You're right, I think ODLH did pretty well on that score as well. Re: Bigger Legend Mayweather or Tyson?
Mayweather by far... He was undefeated and Tyson was knocked out 5 times... After the Buster Douglas fight Tyson was more of a curiosity than a legend... A guy who could be punched and punched and punched until he became a busted balloon... Floyd got punched too...but not as often.bnovelist wrote:Since Floyd calls himself TBE who's the bigger legend out of these two and why?
If getting punched tremendous amounts and knocked out makes you exciting... as well as biting people's ears -- I guess Tyson had some exciting fights.
