At heavyweight in the early 50s.
Both men good in their old age, Joe perhaps the more natural HW but similar size and build and Archie had plenty pop
Who wins?
Archie Moore vs Jersey Joe
Re: Archie Moore vs Jersey Joe
An interesting fight!
Archie Moore was a great champion in the LHW. But in heavyweight is lost to Marciano, Patterson, Ali believe that even this is probably lost but at points.
Re: Archie Moore vs Jersey Joe
Archie would do well in this potential exchange, they are both likely to be standing at the end, but I see Archie outworking Joe, and coming out ahead. Ezz beat Joe when Ezz was at the top of his game....so would Archie. Archie also stopped Harold Johnson in this time period.
Re: Archie Moore vs Jersey Joe
There are a number of similarities and shared opponents Maxim, Charles, Johnson, Bivins. There could be arguments either way
I don't think many would disagree that Moore was the greater fighter or that Joe was the better suited to the weight class, that's what would make this a hard call. I think a 5 fight series would most likely finish 2/2/1.
I think it's likely to go to points more often than not, with me leaning towards Moore. Which is why I chose him in the poll
However if there was a finish I'd be more inclined to say it'd be Joe that delivered it. I don't think Moore stopped many big guys, particularly not as good as Joe. However Patterson did manage to stop Moore, and I'd think if Patterson could, Joe would be capable.

Re: Archie Moore vs Jersey Joe
I think that this would have been an absolutely fascinating fight.
It's one of those fantasy matchups which would probably be better served as a Trilogy.
For me, there are two likely outcomes:
either Walcott boxes his way to a unanimous decision
or Moore wins by landing a combination cleanly and knocking him out.
(In a trilogy, I would expect so see both outcomes & it would come down to the final fight)
On this occasion I slightly leaned toward Walcott winning on points but it's a brilliant matchups & one that rarely gets mentioned.

I think there are a lot of possilbities in this fight. Both were capable of stopping the other guy, though it's more likely that it would go the distance. This could be one where both guys hit the deck but the fight goes the distance. Leaning towards Walcott.
