If Baer came to fight I'd pick him to knockout Shavers,and early...much as Jerry Quarry did. Baer had a terrific chin and probably could withstand an early shot by Shavers..again, Quarry got tagged with at least one big one and he just came storming back.
Prime Baer had trouble with boxers, not punchers. He was past his prime when he was only about 26..( bad hands and good living)...I think that was his age when he fought Louis....and Louis was a boxer /puncher.Louis would have beat him at any time..but it's always bugged me that most people remember Baer for JUST the Louis fight.He was better than that, and when the mood was on him he was one tough fighter.Louis always said he was the hardest to hurt..."like trying to drive bricks in a wall with your hands."
