Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
Will Canelo wont have a problem with the 6'1 bigger man than Saul? I believe Chavez will weight about 175 to 180 pounds on night fight.
Re: Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
He'll have a bit of a problem with him in spots I imagine, not so much of a problem that he'll lose. He's not powerful enough to stop Chavez Jr. I don't think, but he should outbox him comfortably.

You mean Canelo will be in that range? That's where he's at when fighting at 155. Chavez was 180 in 2011 vs Zbik. He's way bigger nowMarchegiano1952 wrote:Will Canelo wont have a problem with the 6'1 bigger man than Saul? I believe Chavez will weight about 175 to 180 pounds on night fight.

Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if Canelp cracks 180lb on fight night seeing as he was 173lb vs Trout years ago. Chavez Jr put on 21lb while fighting at 160, so we can expect him to be at least 185lb, maybe 190lb.Purse Bid Shakedown wrote:You mean Canelo will be in that range? Re: Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
Chavez is toast... The way that skinny and punchless Pole ran over Junior, everybody knows he won't survive. The man just can't box and he doesn't seem anxious to learn. He's not motivated. They looked for another name opponent like Kirkland and Khan who they could erase quickly -- and Chavez is their boy.
Re: Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
I think that this fight is going to be fantastic. I can understand why people are down on Canelo for talking out of both sides of his mouth on the weight issue. But this is going to be a dandy.
My guess is that Chavez Jr climbs through the ropes at 190 on fight night. Don't tell me it's impossible because anyone that has sucked weight for a sport can attest to gaining 25-30 pounds over night. This is going to be a huge factor in this fight. Chavez Jr's chin is world class. I think that this fight most likely goes the distance and Canelo is going to have to gut this one out late.

Re: Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
Why are people so upset about Canelo accepting a fight against Chavez Jr. at 165lbs, even though he’s asked for time to become a fully-fledged 160lb-er before he shares the ring with GGG?caldo2025 wrote:I can understand why people are down on Canelo for talking out of both sides of his mouth on the weight issue.
Golovkin himself previously admitted that he’d be willing to face Bernard Hopkins at 175lbs, but would only fight Andre Ward at 164lbs?
GGG was applauded by fight fans when he faced a 147lb-er at 160lbs, but Canelo received severe criticism when he fought a 147lb-er at 155lbs! WTF!
I don’t mind, but Golovkin has actually gone on record by stating his dislike of catch-weight bouts, despite saying he’d only face Ward at 164lbs.
If two fighters commit the same proverbial “crime”, they should both receive the same punishment (i.e. severity of criticism). However, Golovkin is given a free pass by fight fans, but Canelo is lambasted!
Double-standards or what?
Re: Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
Here is how I think this fight will go:
After several competitive rounds, won by Canelo, at that point Canelo found his range, used short power punches to the head of Chavez thrown in combinations, and broke him down. Canelo dropped Chavez in the ninth round, Chavez quit on his stool after the round ended, and was unwilling and unable to continue after taking a huge beating. Not a close bout. Canelo lost a point in round seven for a rough shoulder bump, probably to prevent Chavez from continuing to drive into him with his forehead.
Guess what? 2 years ago, at 171.5 lbs, the above is a description of how the Chavez vs Fonfara bout went. I just replaced Fonfara's name with Canelo's. This bout is at 164.5lbs. So much for the world class chin. Canelo is purposely weight draining Chavez to prevent a competitive bout. Gaining 30lbs after weigh in won't help Chavez.

It's simple to understand really unless you have an anti-GGG agenda which you obviously have. You have one boxer who has clearly stated that his goal was to unify all of the Middleweight belts from the start of his arrival as champion. You have another boxer that vacated a belt to avoid having to fight someone claiming that he wasn't ready to fight 160 pounders.Enlightened-One wrote:Why are people so upset about Canelo accepting a fight against Chavez Jr. at 165lbs, even though he’s asked for time to become a fully-fledged 160lb-er before he shares the ring with GGG?caldo2025 wrote:I can understand why people are down on Canelo for talking out of both sides of his mouth on the weight issue.

6 months later the latter signs a fight at 165 pounds...this is not rocket science E1. With Oscar back on the sauce, Canelo would be smart to find a way to split from Golden Boy before they end up ruining his career. If Canelo doesn't sign on to fight with GGG in 2017, he will be the most hated boxer in the sport for this level of cowardice. The worst part is that I think Golden Boy is the culprit here, not Canelo.

People say Canelo should push the fight. Canelo is not a smart man. I think he believes he is stuck doing what Oscar tells him. Too bad it will ruin any legacy he would of had

That is it. Canelo would likely win at 168 too, but he would take some punishment in the process, so they just decided to fight severely weakened Chavez. And Canelo making 90% of Golden Boys money is precisely why Oscar will not allow Canelo to fight GGG.
Oscar can not afford him to lose

In my mind, if the same “crime” is committed by two people, regardless the reasons… the punishment or the judgement should always be the same for both individuals.
Whilst I understand certain aspects of your criticism of Canelo, my post was meant to challenge the fight fans, not the fighters.
It seems that the vast majority of fight fans employ double-standards, where they will nearly always refrain from criticising their favourite fighter, even if they have committed the very same “crime” as one of their “hated” rivals.
So if someone aggressively lambasts Canelo… and I notice that one of their favourite fighters did precisely the same thing, I enjoy pointing that out, since it forces them to reconsider the severity of their remarks… or at least it’s fun to see them trying to squirm their way out of their perceived “double-standards” using creative justification.
For the record, you only explained the reason for your dislike of Canelo, which I can wholeheartedly appreciate. However, you’ve refrained from attempting to defend GGG’s actions, even though they are easily comparable to Alvarez’s.
If you’re going to challenge my posts, I’d prefer you attack each point I made head-on rather than skirting around the issue under discussion.

I assume you want to see Golden Boy Promotions lose their main earner (who generates 94% of their income)?ValMar wrote:I feel Canelo will win, but I will root for Chavez (because of ODLH).........
I wonder if Al Haymon will give his fighter (Chavez Jr.) the best possible training preparation in the hope that he scores a huge upset over the Golden Boy-promoted betting favourite, in order to wreck their only revenue stream?
Re: Julio Cesar Chavez JR VS Saul Canelo Alvarez
I think that Tiny is correct and Canelo has hinted obviously during some interviews how the decision to avoid GGG was a GB thing. Canelo's body of work supports that opinion as well. He took on Lara when no one wants anything to do with him. He fought Floyd knowing he was green.Marlo Stanfield wrote:I don't believe that for a second. Canelo makes 90% of GoldenBoys money.
