Framptons legacy took a big hit

Post by TheLeprechaun »

He couldn't deal with Santa Cruz employing a jab and counter punching. I don't think any of us think Santa Cruz is the second coming of Muhammad Ali. I though Frampton was a level above Santa Cruz and could compete with the likes of Russell Jr and possibly rigondeaux and lomachenko. Now I don't think he beats Selby.

Agreed Selby looks a harder proposition now .

One thing that stands out for me though , he might have lost a close fight but there was no Histrionics afterwards . He even appluaded the decision !

Really, Really good bloke to have knocking around the top of the division.

There are a load of fighters out there that could take a leaf out of his book .

Hope that gets included in his Legacy when he calls it time .

Frampton showed his class in defeat and about 6 hours later Federer showed his class in victory. Really good to see class in sport today!

You think that Russell Jr is better than Santa Cruz?

His bank balance didn't, n if he wins the third fight, then his legacy will be fine, LSC a 3 weight world champ don't forget, wrong tactics Imo last night.

I think the gonzalez fight showed that making frampton lead makes him uncomfortable

I just didn't think Santa Cruz would be the next man to really expose that trait.

I think he could be, not done enough to show that yet though.

Carl didn't really seem to have a plan, other than to try and chin Santa Cruz. And McGuigan in the corner sounded absolutely clueless, his advice was along the lines of move faster, try that

But no effect on his legacy at all, just a speed bump on the way.

I think Frampton just couldn't time the right and follow on left hook that had LSC reeling in the first fight.

He's also used to leading after the first 2-3 rounds and it becomes a struggle then as he has to force the fight.

His legacy took no hit at all. He lost a close decision to a top fighter in the other guy's backyard.

Not had the chance to watch it yet, but how much of his legacy is tarnished by moving up a division, winning an MD vs the division #1 before losing an MD in the rematch?

Total garbage to suggest Frampton's legacy took a big hit. Comments like that show why some fighters are more interested in building unbeaten records against nobodies than challenging themselves against the best available.

It was a good close fight between two world level operators. Boxing needs more of that and less record building, less store needs to be put on the 'unbeaten records' but unfortunately it seems to sell fights better to the casuals. It's like saying Froch's legacy suffered cos of his 2 defeats, it didn't because he was fighting the best rather than padding out a record.

Frampton legacy took a big hit when he ducked Rigo, in my eyes anyway. I think what happened is that LSC filled up his huge frame and this time around came in as a massive feather . Frampton was too small to be effective. I predicted that Frampton wont do very well in FW, he is too much of a midget. Now I am convinced he looses to all top guys there. But thats hat happens when you run from the best. He should come down to super bantam and fight Rigo. LSC is noting special, he will loose to Russel Jr, Valdez and perhaps even to Selby.

Yeah people don't realize how bad LSC is. They are Massively overrating him off the back of this like he's an all time great. Russell wouldn't lose a round against him. Naz Hamed would have blasted him into next week.

But I don't blame frampton for ducking rigondeaux. This is a guy who did nothing when he broke dickens jaw and had him running. He's never been smart enough to make himself a draw and I'd rather watch pain dry than watch a rigondeaux fight.

How good is Santa Cruz though? I don't think he would beat Selby, or even Scott Quigg for that matter. The bookies would probably price quigg and Selby as slight favorites if those fights were made

Haven't had a chance to watch the fight again but completely agree with this. Morales went 1-2 with Barrera but it's crazy to say his legacy took a big hit as a result, and there's every chance that Frampton could end up on the winning side of a trilogy anyway, especially if they fight again in Belfast.

Laughable to suggest LSC is as good as prime Barrera or Moralea

That doesn't even matter. Gatti & Ward were both quite a way off world class, but they will always be remembered for their fights. People want to watch competitive and exciting fights, which is what Frampton & Santa Cruz have delivered twice already.

Nutshell! This is what bixing is all about. Someone's got to lose the fight. Legacy shouldn't come into it. If more fights like this were made the sport would be richer and more popular and more top guys would have more losses.
