"It's an era of cowards" - world class boxer J Rock
People say no boxer who fights for a living could every be a coward well check out this quote today: J-Rock on Boxing Talk today about his KO loss to Charlo and how it will effect his career: JW: "I really don't care about that kind of stuff, I care about working out my own mistakes and correcting my own flaws. Any slight bit of vulnerability is going to make guys want to fight me now because this is the era we're in. It's an era of cowards." Cowardice is indeed a part of boxing today - a world class boxer told it like it is - (take note couch warriors)

It's an era of businessmen not cowards. Decisions are based on a combination of optimising revenue generation and minimising the risk to the revenue stream.

The boxer who boxes in the world of boxing called it "an era of cowards" - I will take his view over yours but thank you -Enlightened-One wrote:It's an era of businessmen not cowards. Boxing is the only sport where you get to duck logical opponents and fight easy opponents -- and screw the fans out of competitive match-ups... Meanwhile, boxers who will fight anyone in their weight class---because they know they're damned good---don't get to select their opponents. They languish away for years fighting the best opponent who will face them ... who is usually an unknown or a 2nd rater who is hard to get excited about. The fans that put up with this behavior and say "Who did he ever fight?" are the ones responsible for these stinky match-ups.montrealsuper wrote:People say no boxer who fights for a living could every be a coward well check out this quote today: J-Rock on Boxing Talk today about his KO loss to Charlo and how it will effect his career: JW: "I really don't care about that kind of stuff, I care about working out my own mistakes and correcting my own flaws. Maybe not cowards, but definitely not gladiators. Of course there are exceptions (mainly from Mexico, other 3rd world countries and former Soviet Union), but those "businessmen" want to get big money without taking big risks. They remember that boxing is a show business when it comes to money but not when it comes to entertaining fans.

Pretty incredible news that a top world class boxer is actually calling boxing as being in "an era of cowards" - that friends is absolutely astonishing - and the TRUTH - Broner Floyd Canelo WIlder Stevenson and all of GGG's duckers deserve all the blame -
Re: "It's an era of cowards" - world class boxer J Rock
Floyd deserves very little of the blame. He fought more very good or great fighters than any currently active fighter. I know some guys don't like to hear the truth because they hate Floyd the woman beater and all this, but a fact is a fact. Whether you like the guy or not you're not entitled to your own facts.montrealsuper wrote:Pretty incredible news that a top world class boxer is actually calling boxing as being in "an era of cowards" - that friends is absolutely astonishing - and the TRUTH - Broner Floyd Canelo WIlder Stevenson and all of GGG's duckers deserve all the blame -
Wilder and Stevenson are particularly shameful examples of cowardice. I don't think I've ever seen a guy about to make his 5th title defense still not having defended against a Top 10 ranked opponent before. Wilder is taking cowardice to a new level.
Broner is really just not in a position where too many people care to see him in big fights since he's shown he can't win them. Hopefully Granados beats him. That'd be sweet.
I hope Canelo gets his ass handed to him by Chavez Jr or indeed anybody he fights at this point. I respected Canelo until he showed what a coward he was with this Golovkin situation.

Floyd called himself a coward for Godssakes - Floyd is the ultimate coward of boxing history and he set the stage for what is happening today -gilgamesh wrote:Floyd deserves very little of the blame. Here's a fact for you... Floyd fought Andre Berto when World Welterweight Unification Fights were available with Kell Brook and Keith Broner... In fact, Floyd fans insisted that Floyd was kidding when he floated those names.. And you're in Zu Zu Land thinking Chavez might beat Canelo.. The reason they picked Chavez is -- he's a very easy win like Amir Khan and James Kirland.
Re: "It's an era of cowards" - world class boxer J Rock
Ahh not Keith Broner... more like Keith Thurman.
Re: "It's an era of cowards" - world class boxer J Rock
Chavez will obviously present far more problems than Kahn the spaz or Kirkland out of shape on short notice. Julio would have to be depleted as ever to get easily beaten by Canelo. It's more likely Canelo is going to be losing power punching up to the much taller guy and hope he boxes well enough to safely win. Chavez is coming for blood, and has advantages. I really hope he knocks Canelo out, that'd be great.

I think the Mexican prima donnas are prepping GingerHead for the 3G fight while cashing out on their rivalry.Kalan wrote:Here's a fact for you... Chavez has the script - no way in hell Oscar can afford to have Canelo lose - Chavez needs a payday -

Just checkout TheBeast's "What You Might Have Missed" thread. Worldwide, boxing has never been bigger. There are more excellent pros from all over the globe.
The overall skill level is also higher than it has ever been. The amount of gifted athletes in the sport is also very high. The HW division is the one clear exception for this millennium but I think that is also changing.
There are brutal wars as well as excellent tactical battles every week somewhere around the planet. It is similar to the overall digital content explosion; you can immerse yourself in content to whatever level you choose.
When I read posts complaining about fights like LSC v Frampton and Mikey v Zlaticanin it becomes clear that we are largely oblivious to historical perspective.

There are great fighters yes but we don't see those great fighters in enough fights against the best - GGG has been ducked for years - Stevenson is protected - Floyd was protected - Wilder is protected - Beterbiev is being avoided - Canelo is protected and kept in house - Thurman has been kept in house - Paul Williams was kept in house- Sergio martinez was avoided by floyd and cotto and others - Too many great fighters are and were not made because certain fighters are protected because ducking and handpicking have gone out of control - Klitschko vs Joshua is an excellent fight and look how the fans have responded - credit to both for taking it - Floyd would never fight a young beast like Joshua as he would always find reasons to duck them -
Re: "It's an era of cowards" - world class boxer J Rock
I prefer the half glass full perspective. I appreciate what I have rather than fret about what I do not have and I cannot control.montrealsuper wrote:There are great fighters yes but we don't see those great fighters in enough fights against the best - GGG has been ducked for years - Stevenson is protected - Floyd was protected - Wilder is protected - Beterbiev is being avoided - Canelo is protected and kept in house - Thurman has been kept in house - Paul Williams was kept in house- Sergio martinez was avoided by floyd and cotto and others - Too many great fighters are and were not made because certain fighters are protected because ducking and handpicking have gone out of control - Klitschko vs Joshua is an excellent fight and look how the fans have responded - credit to both for taking it - Floyd would never fight a young beast like Joshua as he would always find reasons to duck them -
