How Mikey Garcia even gets a title shot after not fighting for almost 3 years is beyond me but let's call it what it was. Cherry picking at it's finest. These cherry picking titles are not WORLD titles to me. Not impressed.

Re: Mikey Garcia
For my untrained eye besides Lomo, I would say Spence, Crawford, Andrade, and GGG are fundamentally sound, at least equal to Garcia imo. It might be because they are my four favorite fighters right now.Impractical Poster wrote:I've been high on Mikey for a very long time. I disagree. And Garcia may even be better fundamentally than Loma as well. He is a treat to watch. I'd take him over Crawford... Loma is a tough one. I'd edge towards Loma, but not sure there.Badhusker wrote:For my untrained eye besides Lomo, I would say Spence, Crawford, Andrade, and GGG are fundamentally sound, at least equal to Garcia imo. That 'midget' was deservedly consensus top ten and is better than anyone your hero Oscar Valdez has beaten.caldo2025 wrote:I sometimes marvel at how ridiculous you people are. Re: Mikey Garcia
I'm surprised by this, how can you talk fundamentally sound boxers and not mention Rigondeaux? Easily the best skilled boxer of this age. Two Olympic golds don't lie. I think he beats anybody south of Featherweight and probably beats most of them and the super-Feathers too. Loma V Rigo would've been a beautiful fight to watch if not just for the skills from two slick operators.
Garcia dominated yesterday, I'd like to see him Vs. Linares-Crolla winner. Flanagan and Easter Jr. must be filling their pants after that disgusting KO last night. I hope he spends 2017 cleaning up Lightweight and then looks at moving up for a Crawford fight (if Crawford's still at 10 st), he's a classy act and hopefully can re-establish himself after a long period of inactivity.
Back to OP, I'd recommend the Salido or the Juanma Lopez fights to get an idea for Garcia's skill.

Re: Mikey Garcia
I'm not doubting Garcia's talent. I just have an issue with boxers who have been inactive 2.5 years coming back to the sport getting any title shot they want. The sport is a mess and I understand that. If boxers can go on vacation for a few years and come back anytime they want to fight for a title then what is the incentive to stay busy and entertain the fans? There's no reason.Impractical Poster wrote:I've been high on Mikey for a very long time. Re: Mikey Garcia
To be fair, this is his second fight back. He has already established himself as a top world talent, so why not?
Re: Mikey Garcia
Their incentive is that it is how they make a living. If I could afford to take 2.5 years off without getting a paycheck, I would do the same.caldo2025 wrote:I'm not doubting Garcia's talent. Re: Mikey Garcia
Oh yeah, let's criticize one of the only boxers doing it the RIGHT way. Oscar Valdez earned his strap through numerous fights and has never sat out sulking over a contract he signed. If you don't see that Garcia cherry picked this world title then you are not smart enough to argue a point with me.crusader wrote:That 'midget' was deservedly consensus top ten and is better than anyone your hero Oscar Valdez has beaten.caldo2025 wrote:I sometimes marvel at how ridiculous you people are. Re: Mikey Garcia
I have no problem with people sitting out as long as they want. Mike Garcia could sit out 10 years just don't reward the guy for it and give him a title shot with Boxing's worst champion. Re: Mikey Garcia
I was glad to hear that Garcia would definitely take the fight with Lomanchenko if presented with it, and when Lomo moves to 135. It would be a great fight.
Re: Mikey Garcia
So . . . your only problem is that he picked on the least deserving belt holder? Clearly, Garcia simply stepped up his competition in his second fight back and he collected a trinket as an added benefit.caldo2025 wrote:I have no problem with people sitting out as long as they want. Your argument is so utterly incoherent that it is laughable. You do not even know what you think, but it is entertaining observing you attempting to sort your thoughts out here.
Re: Mikey Garcia
I don't know why i have to continually explain my points to you. If you haven't gotten the theme yet, I am sick of title shots just getting handed out to undeserving people. No offense with Mikey. He's a fantastic boxer but he doesn't deserve a title shot. Joke.Tanzio wrote:So . . . your only problem is that he picked on the least deserving belt holder? Re: Mikey Garcia
Was Zlaticanin a legitimate step up for Mikey's second fight back? I believe that it was, with or without a belt involved. Your beef should be with the proliferation of belts. I really don't pay much attention to them. They are more than trinkets but less than impressive. The trinket gives your team a bit more negotiating power.caldo2025 wrote:I don't know why i have to continually explain my points to you. Zlaticanin got the Mikey fight because he had the trinket. While it was on the undercard it was the biggest fight and payday that Zlaticanin was capable of. It was just a workout for Garcia.
Before you go ripping on Mikey for putting on a flawless performance against an undefeated, never been floored, hard hitting belt holder, let's see what he does going forward. I think that it was a good second step for him.
I'm just happy Zlaticanin survived.
Re: Mikey Garcia
Here's my problem with him...
Fantastic fighter but...
Nobody over the age of 16 should all themselves Mikey. It's Michael or Mick. Mike is also allowable. But Mikey? It's embarrassing.

Re: Mikey Garcia
I like it. What makes it worse than Danny, Jimmy, or Johnny? It actually delineates him as a boxer. Most boxing fans immediately know who Mikey is without his last name.Ezzard wrote:Here's my problem with him...

Re: Mikey Garcia
It's the same argument. I put more importance into the title belts than you do. Respect for these belts will bring the sport back but you just think they are trinkets. Not worth discussing. The only thing we have ever agreed on is your last point. That was scary for a while there and I did like how the Garcia's stopped celebrating when they saw how serious the situation was. That was classy.Tanzio wrote:Was Zlaticanin a legitimate step up for Mikey's second fight back? I believe that it was, with or without a belt involved.
