Does aging, inactive Wladimir Klitschko deserve respect if he beats Anthony Joshua?
Re: Will you give age 41 Klitschko credit if he beats Joshua?
of course not. he is the worst thing that happened to boxing since john ruiz

It'd quite possibly go down as the best win of his career.

Only if Joshua went on to achieve a good amount.gilgamesh wrote:It'd quite possibly go down as the best win of his career.

It would greatly alter my opinion of him. If he beats what I'd consider his best opponent at an age where its all just icing on the cake, I'd have to reevaluate my opinion that he thrived against abysmal opposition.

I will if it is not by outhugging but in a relatively clean fight.

It would be by far the best win of his career.

Absolutely.
Joshua might not be the finished article, but he's the same size; he's much younger & has hellacious power.
If Wladimir at age 41 beats him, he certainly deserves credit.

Wladimir Klitschko is about the same age as George Foreman was when he challenged Evander Holyfield for his undisputed world heavyweight crown.
At the time, people mocked 'Big George' for being a circus clown, a freak show who was far too old and didn't deserve his world title opportunity. And it ended up being a great fight.
So you have to give "Dr Steelhammer" a lot of praise if he manages to defy the betting odds to reclaim one of his old titles, regardless as to whether you think the Brit is pure hype or not.
Klitschko should still be applauded if he gives a good account of himself, even if he loses.

I think it'd be a nice bit of frosting on a great career.

Of course - it will be a valuable win - and will further enhance his legacy as an ATG

I already have him going to the hall of fame. I do consider his career similar to Larry Holmes. Too good for his limited competition. His era was not the strongest at his peak but nobody came close to touching him for a decade. That is pretty impressive. He already has my respect & beating Joshua is a nice way to wind down his career but nobody really knows how good Joshua is. Wins over Breazeale, Molina, Martin & Dillian Whyte are good but can you say he is an unstoppable force? Wilder has beat the same type of fighters & so has Parker, Fury & Povetkin. Klitschko has had a great career & Joshua would be a nice feather in his cap. A first ballot hall of famer regardless if he wins or loses against Joshua. 40 is the new 30 so who knows? I use to cheer against Klitschko but I think I would like to see him beat Joshua. If he throws as many punches as he did against Fury he could be in for a tough night at the office.
