Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
arguably the best match up to be made in that divsion
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Solid fight. Im glad Sosa stepped up to fight Lomachenko. But there are levels to this. Lomachenko is a massive favorite
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
From what I understand, Corrales is the real WBA Champion. How is this a unification? Wouldn't Sosa need to drop his belt to fight Loma?Freedom2013 wrote:Lomachenko vs. Sosa unification on April 8

I'm not sure how it works - the WBA is not always predictable.klitoris wrote:From what I understand, Corrales is the real WBA Champion. How is this a unification? Wouldn't Sosa need to drop his belt to fight Loma?Freedom2013 wrote:Lomachenko vs. Sosa unification on April 8
I imagine Loma would become the WBA "world" titleholder and Corrale's mandatory.
But no matter what the WBA decides, it's still a good matchup.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Solid fight considering the options at 130. The grit Sosa showed in stopping Fortuna leads me to believe that he wont pull a Walters, but it can be especially dejecting when you can't find the target

Nice match

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Fun fight but Sosa has a style tailor made for Lomachenko, still i'd imagine Jason's the type of guy who took the fight without hesitation, not even concerned about how much he was being paid
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
I realize lomachenko doesn't have a ton of options at 130, but this fight will be awful.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
At 130 I would rather see Lomachenko fight Jezreel Corrales or Salido in that order but according to the article that wasn't possible so Sosa will do. Nothing is guaranteed in life or boxing but Sosa fight looks like a huge mismatch. So really this is just a marking time fight until something bigger comes along which is ok but frustrating. Really Want to see Lomachenko fight Pacqiao at a catch weight.

Yes but the issue here isn't the WBA it's the WBO. I imagine that if you fight someone outside the top 15 it has to be another belt holder.Freedom2013 wrote:I'm not sure how it works - the WBA is not always predictable.klitoris wrote:From what I understand, Corrales is the real WBA Champion. I still remember when Tomoki Kameda fought Jamie Mcdonnell for the Regular WBA Title and dropped his WBO because WBO was going to strip him for not fighting the real WBA champion since the real champion was Payano.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Arum will handle WBO.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Loma will win.. Obviously
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Loma is too much for anyone at 130. There is only one competitive fight for him - M. Garcia at 135. I'll repeat : the only one fight....
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Vasyl will just be keeping belts warm for Oscar Valdez. Once Oscar moves up then he'll just be eating up the belts left and right. Inevitable top five P4P type fighter...Oscar Valdez

Funny how you rag on people who hype fighters who you say have never fought anyone but here you are proclaiming Valdez as the heir apparent when he hasn't done anything. That's called hypocrisy. Lomachenko will clown this guy.caldo2025 wrote:Vasyl will just be keeping belts warm for Oscar Valdez. Once Oscar moves up then he'll just be eating up the belts left and right. Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Rueda I guess is a horrible fighter then ha? He was 26-0 with 23 knockouts when Valdez schooled him for the WBO title. I prefer fighters that put the work in and deserve their title fights. Not a fighter that demands title shots for just announcing that he's a pro and using as a bargaining chip with promoters. It's not the way the sport is supposed to go. One guy is doing it the right way and the other guy who is a mediocre 7-1 in his 8 pro fights is not. How can he be great when he's already lost before his 10th fight? You guys make me laughBaby Face Finster wrote:Funny how you rag on people who hype fighters who you say have never fought anyone but here you are proclaiming Valdez as the heir apparent when he hasn't done anything. Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
Rueda is mediocre at best, and his record is heavily padded. Walters, Russell, and Martinez are significantly better than him, as is Jason Sosa. Did you think George Tahdooahnippah was a top fighter because he had a 31-0 record? Was he more deserving of world title fights than Loma?caldo2025 wrote:Rueda I guess is a horrible fighter then ha? You moan and start cry baby threads because people are hyping supposedly unproven fighters, but you lavishly praise a guy who has fought no one
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
I lavishly praise Valdez start over Vasyl because one guy did it right and the other got it handed to him. Who demands title shots without fighting one fight as a pro? Vasyl decided to be a career amateur and fight kids for most of his life. Big deal. Valdez did it right. He put the time in and came up the ranks to win his first title. Vasyl made a mockery of the sport.crusader wrote:Rueda is mediocre at best, and his record is heavily padded. Walters, Russell, and Martinez are significantly better than him, as is Jason Sosa. Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Jason Sosa
I would normally agree about fighters being fast-tracked to world title shots, but Lomachenko is a special case. He has possibly the greatest amateur record in history, and proved he could immediately mix it at world level by winning titles at two different weights within seven fights. What would have been the point of him padding his record by beating 15-20 club fighters (for peanuts)? He was already way past that level and is in the business to make some money. As for Valdez, he does look good and he's 21-0, but I can only see 3-4 names of note on his record. Records can be very deceptive. Audley Harrison was 19-0 at one point! A 7-1 record might sound mediocre - if you hadn't seen Lomachenko dismantle Martinez and Walters last year.
Oh and if Valdez does step up and the fight happens, Lomachenko is going to stand him on his head. I can't wait!
Well done to Jason Sosa for stepping up and taking on the challenge plenty of others are ducking.

caldo must've thought that 31-0 George Tahdooahnippah was a hot shot, and more deserving of a title shot than Loma.

Of course at least one fighter got his title shot even faster than Loma: I'm thinking of Pete Rademacher, who lost to Floyd Patterson for the HW world title in his very first fight. He got stopped, then slid into obscurity. Just shows that you can be handed an opportunity but you then have to go out there and perform, or get found out.
