WBA orders McDonnell-Solis rematch

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The WBA Championships Committee has ordered a rematch between bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell and Liborio Solis. The fighters clashed in November with McDonnell winning a unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 117-111). However, after studying the video at the request Solis’ manager Manuel Pérez Barreiro, a decision was made to call for a rematch.

The parties have 30 days to reach an agreement from January 31, otherwise it will go to purse bid with a split of 75% for the champion and 25% for the challenger.

Fair enough, many people thought Solis should have won. They did something similar when Crolla fought perez

Good.....the judges were unfair, and seemed to give McD far too much credit for his inaccurate jab and pitter-patting

McDonnell will almost certainly be moving up then, I think he was only hanging around Bantam if something big came up, I personally had him nicking the fight by a round but the 117-111 card in his favour was scandellous

All the cards for him were poor and gave him too much credit for ineffectively moving his hands

It was a clear close decision loss for him the first time around. Anyone hear boos?

He couldn't defend himself next to Hearn afterwards.

Ace!

Both are always in good fights, Solis really seemed to grow into bantamweight in their first encounter and I felt McDonnell had a really bad night at the office, hurting his right hand during the trademark late surge.

It was a tremendous battle, I had McDonnell nicking it but just not the steamrolling finish that was expected after he hurt his man badly with a left hook.

Absolutely cannot wait.

Yes I had him scraping by in just a one point lead. He did get some benefit of the doubt, did Jamie. On the other hand Solis, with the WBA bias, will get an inordinate amount of shots at this title.

Loved the fight, felt it was contested with more skill than Sosa v Smith on the same card and think the rematch will be even better.

I'm glad when these fights turn into unexpected rivalries where the winner will really have to bring their A game. Same thing happened with Yamanaka, extremely fortunate I felt to beat Moreno first time round, demolishing his man in a multi knockdown shootout and coming out an improved fighter.

When is McDonnell going to fight Warren?

This is not right.

It is but everyone has their own little rivalry, Yamanaka v Moreno, McDonnell vs both Kameda and Solis, Warren vs Payano. All good fights.

Will McDonnell be defending in Yorkshire, any ideas?

When all the sky pundits had McDonnell losing the fight you knew it was a bad robbery.

That 117-111 card for McDonnell was disgusting and the judge should be banned for life.

Depends. Without Josh Warrington matchroom will be there less. Possibly AJ v Wlad or Brook v Spence ( being optimistic with that fight though.
