Invest it wisely? With no TV deal he could burn the cash easily.

Buy 5 June 2018 gold futures contracts. He'll be quids in next year

That's it. Problem is round here, all the gym lads have the same mates. If one fights, he can do 150, if three fight they do 50 each! I get messages straight away from them all to buy, I feel a twat when I only buy off one. Pro show in York soon, they'll be all trying to ram tickets into the same people.

Pinpoint some Areas that have talent with a lack of shows.

I'd start with areas I know well - Nottingham, south west wales, and Manchester.

First show run as many 50/50 fights between locals as I could such as Nottingham super middle against Nottingham super middle. This would reduce costs. With competitive shows, at minimal cost I'd then see if a tv company wanted to jump on board.

Boxing promoting without TV just seems like a way to give yourself a big headache and massive risk of burning money. There's not much money to be made from it at the lower level so if it's an investment you're after I'd look elsewhere. If it's just a burning passion to do it then go for it, but I wouldn't expect much in the way of profits.

Unlicensed, Charity and mixed shows make a lot of money up here. Not had pro for a while, but it will sell out.

I guess at a certain level yeh, it's kind of simple enough, book a venue, hire a ring and a few staff, get some local boxers and push them to sell the tickets, put up a few posters. Not my cup of tea though, bet it takes quite a lot of messing round for a few grand profit.

There's tonnes of shows in Manchester, just on the up-coming schedule...

10th Feb - Bowlers (Kieran Farrell)
18th Feb - Victoria Warehouse (VIP)
24th Feb - Middleton Arena (Black Flash)
4th March - Chorley Park Hotel (MGM)
17th March - Bowlers (PBE / L-Sel)
24th March - Bowlers (Black Flash)
25th March - Manchester Arena (Matchroom)
8th April - Manchester Arena (Queensberry)
14th April - Bowlers (Kieran Farrell)
6th May - Macron Stadium Bolton (VIP)

It's bankrupting stuff round here!

i think the internet might just be the way forward for a small hall promoter.

stay with your small hall venues that hold 3-400 tops

have half a dozen or so fights on the card featuring local lads, therefore the venue fills. then... using an internet platform, ppv the bill for £2 through an app (coldwell did similar a few years ago). make the first couple of shows free via the app, then put on the £2 charge thereafter. build a small following and support local fighters. get some local sponsorship too.

if you get 2,500 buyers thats 5K in the purse pot.

Also, I've always been unsure why small-hall promoters don't set up their own website to sell tickets - don't think I have found one in my local area who does so. I might be wrong, though, so happy to be corrected, but it just seems to be incredibly hard sometimes to find out how to buy tickets or even when shows are on. It's not hard to buy a domain name, run a website through Wordpress and get a Paypal button on it so people can buy stuff like tickets on it. And you wouldn't need to say which seat someone was in, just allocate by area of the hall, so it should be entirely doable. But apart from that point, it seems like a hard job being a small-hall promoter, and also a matchmaker for those shows.

Yeh I agree it should be easier to be more professional, I run loads of websites and it's a piece of piss to run a simple Wordpress theme which is all they'd need really.

There's something a bit tinpot about boxing promotion generally below the big two in this country. It's probably crying out for someone to come in and be really professional about it, but at that lower level it's gona be hard and the rewards are gona be relatively small for all the hard work required. Best you could hope for would be Hearn or someone spotting your good work and taking you under their wing. I'd love to work in the boxing promotion scene but it seems a bit of a closed shop.

I agree.

There's some local promoters to me. I won't name names, but educated guesses can be taken, where their websites, social media and flyers/posters are absolute dog sh*t. Quite often they even spell their own fighters' names wrong.

I'd happily get involved for next to nothing. Just sort me out some ringside for fight nights and some free bar and I'd be on it 24/7 for them. I'm more than qualified too.

Agree that Top Boxing site is all it needs, professional looking and able to buy tickets online.

On another note, I think local boxing shows need to stop being prospect vs journeyman. More needs to be made of area belts etc. Who's the cock of Manchester? How about the Manchester title, Leeds champion etc. Would be fun. Needs a rebrand at the lower level to keep it fun and competitive, I feel there are too many prospects being built up on journeymen for 10-15 fights - those sorts of shows don't appeal to me at all.

Digging deeper on the Top Boxing website, there's a show coming up on 27th Feb and yet I don't even know who's on it or any way to find out on the site. i can buy tickets of course, but there's nothing about the show. With less than one month until the show you'd hope they'd a) know who's fighting and if they do b) have it well promoted on the site.

Yes and no... a certain fighter local to me is fighting for a 'challenge belt' and is happily billing it as a title fight. I've not even bothered to enquire as to what a challenge belt is but im guessing its on par with a masters title at best.

IMHO, Titles start with Southern Area and go up from there.

I'd rather not have localised titles made into an actual belt, although ive no problem with billing a fight as bragging rights or best fighter in the city/town, i'd much rather see the Area titles and the English title contested more regularly.

As an example, the last BBBofC Northern Area HW title fight was in.... 1987. Tell me you cant find a yorkshireman to fight a lancastrian, call it war of the roses and get that belt active again.

The English HW title has been contested 4 times in 7 years. I realise that you might hang on to a belt while you fight international opponents, or out-of-area opponents, but if the area titles were being properly, regularly contested, as soon as a fighter vacated the English (e.g when winning the British) or the British (e.g when winning a European or World title) there would be either a fight already happening which could then be made for the belt, or one could be ordered.

I've sometimes wondered if something similar to the WSB would work among the bigger cities/areas.

Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, London etc with "Teams". Professional fights that go on record. Perhaps managed by an ex-pro from their area. The managers job to make the matches with their opposite number.

Perhaps even "League" winners could take on an international / invitational team and so forth.

Maybe even an accompanying cup competition, more individual, which would culminate in English titles being awarded.

It could all be very slick and commercialised, which seemingly is what people want and appeals. Would make it easy for people to get behind "their" team and in turn those fighters gain valuable exposure for the future, individual careers they have.

No, the numbers don't work.
Even a modest broadcast costs circa £2k, plus the fees involved in whatever streaming service used, plus the cost of developing an app or website that works with PPV streaming.
People interested enough in local small hall boxing to buy a £2 PPV are likely to go to the show so the most likely outcome is a few people that would have gone to the show take the £2 option rather than £35 ticket plus bar prices etc when funds are tight.
2500 buys is far too high to be achievable and far too low to make it a success.

Ok . What do you need

Well to start with a extensive , and i mean VERY EXTENSIVE , book of phone numbers , of trainers , managers , and fighters , , a personality where they want to be on your shows , otherwise , you wil suffer pull out after pullout when the journeymen have been offered more to take a loss elswhere on your date ..

You will need to pay well , because the local ticket seller is going to relize your not Eddie Hearn or allegedly and will not hesitate to screw you .

You will need to be able to absorbe big losses , both personaly and financially , and quite often KNOW that the guy who caused them is not bothered and couyld'nt give a fornicate .

After this if you survive and become a promoter who everyone thinks is worth sticking by and wants to be involved with , you will need a GOOD LAWYER who can advice you on what to put into the contracts and what you can sue for , ready for when the other guys reconise your getting to big for your boots and try to undermine you .

If you can habndle all this ,, go for it , hope you succeed , otherwise , try race 7 number 7 .
