Re: Hopefully you guys give up on Price
I recall that. I'd have thought that, looking at Price and working out how to fine tune some improvements, strength was the least of the problems. Going on last night's performance he carries far too much bulk, the problem being, when an opponent comes at him, he can't really do anything except amble backwards towards the ropes and stay there.Kro wrote:Sure I read somewhere that Coldwell (or a member of his team) felt that Price lacked strength for such a big bloke and they stuck him on some powerlifting program.Naandrew wrote:Why did price out on 23-30 lbs after changing trainers. Surely stamina issues get worse with the star weight.
I really feel for the guy, but the career is over with now. If he ever wrote a book, I'd love to read it, his career has had highs and lows and I'd love to know his real thoughts on how its gone, particularly his thoughts on the first 2-3 years of his career when he was bowling them over for fun. I'm sure I saw an interview with him once where he was highly critical of the opponents he was fed - the gist being, he learned sweet FA from bowling them over. Hindsight makes experts of us all, of course.
Re: Hopefully you guys give up on Price
He will be back, citing his issues as being purely psychological and claiming he is seeing a hypnotherapist now and he feels '100℅ better'. Cue two undercard knockovers then a replica loss against a Top 50 opponent.

Re: Hopefully you guys give up on Price
Just don't think Price will be able to shrug this one off. He was gassed after 4 and could even stand at the end of round 6.
That is not the montage of a champion or even world title challenger. It's one thing say the guy lacks confidence, that he just needs to get his jab going, protect his chin and fight at range. people will now quite legitimately state that he doesn't come in in shape, aren't sure he can do more than 4-6 rounds and doesn't have the "desire" to fight through an empty gas tank.
It was brought even more strongly into focus with Eubank rolling out, a fighter who seems relentless.

Beyond domestic level I don't think his power is all that. Thompson and hammer were able to take some shots and even when they got hit flush they took them well and got off the canvas.
Coldwell has given up on him if you listen to his post fight interview.

I think the first fight with Thompson destroyed his belief in his power also - since that he doesn't really commit to anything he throws, he's always thinking about the reverse traffic.TheLeprechaun wrote:Beyond domestic level I don't think his power is all that. He's one of the worst interviews in boxing I agree. Callum Smith is probably the worst interview in boxing at the moment.
Re: Hopefully you guys give up on Price
Price used to box at 245-247lbs. Under Coldwell he's coming in 2 stone heavier and being told to jab and move. Bizarre.Vincent stevenson wrote:Nasty thread by an anonymous poster as usual .I've got David's number here if anybody wants to phone him up and tell him personally how much of a failure he is ? He fought his heart out tonight although I have to disagree with Dave coldwells punch and move advice I would have preferred the punch and go again approach . Specially considering his size and weight advantages.

The pads with a trainer who is 2 foot smaller look comical.TheLeprechaun wrote:I'm convinced he just doesn't train that hard. Never seen clips of him hitting a track doing sprints. It always looks like labored shadow boxing when you see him train. Maybe some bags, some pads and some sparring.

Coldwell has never brought through one fighter of his own. If one of Hearn's fighters don't want to drive down to Tony Sims' gym he has sent them to Coldwell. Maybe he'll wise up now.forcefraser wrote:
Let's have it right. How can he do "8 to 10 rounders"? He was blowing out of his 'arris after 2 rounds last night.
He was in disgraceful shape. Coldwell should be ashamed.

I wonder if he's made enough money to retire.
I still don't think Parker/Wilder/Joshua would give him a voluntary shot at the title. They look to the outskirts of the top 10/20 for easy voluntaries but Price is probably still a bit too high risk and always will he when you can fight guys like Wach, Molina, Arreola, wawrzyc, Duhappas etc. Not saying price is any better than them but they seem more appealing. Maybe if price gets flattened again in another comeback he will join that group. If he looks terrible time and time again, maybe he might get an opportunity as a voluntary challenger like Audrey did. Doubt it but I'd imagine that's his only way to a title shot. He isn't capable of getting into a mandatory position.
I honestly think we will see him retire now. He must have paid off his mortgage at least.
If he just stays in it for the money he might end up getting hurt. Why would sauerland bother keeping him on now. I suppose when you look at it financially he could make 20-30k getting starched by ortiz. Could make 50-100k getting starched by a roided Povetkin in Russia. I could see povetkin possibly making that fight, with price having absolutely no leverage at the negotiating table. The paltry offers might come in but he's not in a position to be choosey. Pulev offers him 20-30k for a fight in Bulgaria for example.
Those sums of money are significant if not great. If he's willing to fight for those low sums he might possibly get a fight but it's really looking like his career is in dire straits indeed

Until last night, because of his big punch, I had not given up on him, despite his chin.
But he seems to have totally given up mentally, physically his preparation must be poor. Maybe a bit gunshy. Stamina, chin issues. He's psychologically broken it seems. Ruined goods.

There surely comes a point where it's not worth the risk - if he's a qualified plumber, and invests wisely, he could probably make as much if not more money in a few years, without the risk of getting his head bashed in.TheLeprechaun wrote:Haha true.BigDoofus wrote:The pads with a trainer who is 2 foot smaller look comical.TheLeprechaun wrote:I'm convinced he just doesn't train that hard. I see him giving it one last go. Getting with a new trainer and taking a low ball offer to fight an Ortiz, Whyte, Chisora type possibly. Maybe even a Hammer rematch. He's young enough to give it one last try. And it's worth it for the potential money he could make if he won.
