Who Is Your Preferred Anchorman ?

Post by CaptainSpacerod »

In an ideal world who would you like as the presenter for a live evening of boxing - sat in the studio chatting with maybe 2 panelists, introducing the action, linking with the guys at ringside etc etc

I like Dempsey the best. He does on occasion have more than a hint of Partridge about him but i suppose that goes with the territory in sports broadcasting and I think he's the best all rounder - a trained journalist, just the right level of enthusiasm, excellent knowledge and a polished delivery.

Don't mind any of that list, even Smith is tolerable. The bird on sky with the specs is easy on the eye in the middle of the night too.

dempsey for me. knows his onions, gets the best out of guests by asking the right questions, isn't afraid to tell it how it is and has a proper presence.

the others:

bunce: fat bloke down the pub style, genuinely funny but lacks gravitas for the big events
robinson: cardboard goblin who sucks the life out of everything with his company man schtick
smith: seems to get homoerotic pleasure out of the whole thing, which isnt easy to watch
rosenthal: pure quality, but he's better at ringside than anchoring in the studio
generic female: no thanks, it's a man's sport but if you know your stuff (like charlie webster) then tits and a short dress are acceptable
macintosh: if you can get past how he looks, he's pretty good and i enjoy his coverage. wouldnt last five minutes in a proper northern pub, mind.
lillis: proper bloke, proper boxing man, i think im a trainspotter until i hear lillis rolling out the facts at 4am

Dempsey or Rosenthal by a mile from that list. Though I admit nostalgia may play a part there.

Bunce is a knowledgeable journalist and I really enjoyed his Radio London shows but he's not at his best in front of a camera IMO defo not as the main host anyway.

Nelson seems a great guy but can never get his words out.

Dream team - Jim Rosenthal in the studio with a couple of guests like Lennox and Lillis, Nelson or Buncey maybe

Ringside - Dempsey, Woodhall, Hatton

Commentary - Woodhall, Hatton and Barry Jones would be a good laugh for a combination

Jim Rosenthal because he reminds me of the good old days of ITV boxing.

Paul Dempsey is at least as good, but old Jimbo just nicks my vote for old times sake.

Rosenthal by some considerable distance because he keeps it nice and simple.

My dream team:

In the studio - Dempsey, with Glenn and Lillis as guests.

Ringside - Rosenthal, with Buncey and Woodhall supporting.

Commentary - Darke on lead, with Barry Jones and Malignaggi supporting.

Post-fight interviewer - Kellerman.

Fluffer - Adam Smith

I think Dempsey is serious, professional and come across well. Despite his haircut. He gets my vote.

But anyone except the Sky bellend trio - Adam 'the pouting growler' Smith, Johnny 'he with the idiot grin' Nelson and the jewel in the crown, Ed 'uncle Paulie's robot' 'the helium huffer' 'the monotone mutterer' 'the let-me-put-a-mouthful-of-porridge-in-my-mouth-before-I-speak' 'the one, the only worst presenter in the world' Rrrrrroooobbbbbinson (more nicknames than apollo creed.)

Your visceral hatred for Inoffensive Ed disconcerts me sir, are you Julian Kacanolli ?

Generic Glamorous Female.

I liked that Lauren Frain that Spike TV had doing ringside interviews a couple of times.
