I think Price's hope with the weight was that he'd be more durable.

Utter bollox there buddy.

He was exhausted after the first round. His chest was heaving up and down as he was sucking in oxygen. I am getting proper fooked off with comments, posts, interviews and articles saying he ran out of gas after a few rounds. No, he looked in trouble early and here on the round by round that was said in real time.

Two posts from the round by round after round one

If another poster says that Price wasn't "fit" I will have to start headbutting the wall :brick:

His problem is nervous energy - he could be the fittest man on the planet according to whatever test you want to do, but put him in a boxing ring in front of a live opponent who is likely to hit him back and he will have zero energy.

I think I agree with you. If Price is sat waiting to enter the arena his adrenaline could be pumping round so fast due to anxiaty or stress that its used up all his energy. Its the 'fight or flight' mode within the body. In fight or flight once the fight is ove rin terms of your body has gone back to normal you have to go to sleep to get your energy back. The body is a strange thing when it comes to stress

unfortunately Price hasnt been blessed with the best body/physique for this sport, hes certainly big enough but theres just not enough flexibility in his upper body to be able to move how he needs to to generate power or to defend himself properly, also his brain doesnt seem to be in sync with his feet/legs which results in him never being in a balanced stance, throw in his mental frailties and its a recipe for disaster, olympic medalist and british champ sounds pretty good to me Price wants to quit now and be proud of what he has acheived against the odds

Course nervous energy can tax you , but it did'nt bother him earlier in the ameteurs , and nervous energy or not it would'nt cause him to start gassing after 2 rnds , he's supposed to be a pro for god sake .. I know all about nervous energy , one of my sons seemed to find it hard and would always gas early , but never after 2 rnds ... He came in heavy how do you lose weight , let me keep it simple ,,

Burn off more calories than you put in , simple ,,, how do you put weight on ,, take in more than you burn off simple .

He put weight on and he gassed , with it starting to show in the SECOND rnd ,, thats not nervous energy thats just simply not training like a profesional

Agree with that but he also happens to not be fit. Although you are right, if he was "fit" I suspect he would flatten fast as you say, but in this instance, with an extra 25lb on his frame, he was also unfit

It's obviously a combo of the two. He's clearly not a fit athlete, just look at the man. Carrying way too much poundage so I'd say he looks to me to be a lazy trainer. If I knew I was a nervous sort who burned off loads of nervous energy, then I'd make sure I was extra fit with extra gas in the tank to try and compensate. I think people are making too many excuses for him as if it's things he can't change (the nervous energy bit) the guy is a lumbering beast of a man, I'm sure he'd gas on a 5-10 mile run never mind a fight situation. Some people just don't have the right body type though, maybe it's that, but an athlete he aint.

Getting a bit deep with this one but if it IS all nervous energy and not just shit training and wrong body type for pro boxing, then he should have gone to see a therapist a long time ago and tried different things to help him out on the mental side.

These could include meditation, hypnotherapy, CBT, allsorts of things could have helped him if he does have that problem and had recognised it and tried to fix it.

Too late now though, he's had enough chances, just have to conclude he has no engine and is a lot shitter than we first thought, nothing wrong with it, just walk away now.

Have to say I am really gutted for Price and fear that this is probably the end for him now realistically.

I didn't watch the fight live but have seen it subsequently and as others have stated he ran out of gas alarmingly quickly and seemed to be in a very subdued mood from the start given that this was a make or break fight.

I suspect he has never truly gotten over the Thompson losses and being knocked out cold by Teper seems to have totally destroyed any remaining confidence that he had. In many ways Hammer was the ideal opponent for him to look good against given that Price had a significant height and reach advantage and given that Hammer is a pretty basic plodder who doesn't have a particularly big shot but the ease with which he was able to get inside Price and land his shots was quite shocking.

I'm not sure whether or not Price will retire. I'd be surprised if he has earned that much and he may feel that he can carry on even at domestic level but I think any hope of getting a world title shot now has gone.

Sadly this for me....I don't think he should carry on, I just don't think he has the will to take it further. On paper he has a chance against most but when it comes to it, he just isn't there mentally for me. Shame really.

Price tires really quickly when his opponent is able to pressurized him some what. I remember him hanging over the ropes a couple of times in the 2nd TT fight. His lack of stamina is actually quite shocking.

He also looked scared and faught like Audley Harrison. Instead of jabbing, just sticking out his arm into his opponents face to judge this distance. Once the ref starts warning them for doing it. The opponent is able to get inside the taller man because they are neglecting the jab.

He's finished and should retire. His health is more important.

I have to say, I used to be a real hater, but a few more gems like those in this fight and he moves into my top 3 favourite UK boxing commentators.

heres my take on it....

it was an entertaining fight, simply because david price always gives his opponent a chance due to his fragility.

price dropped johnson heavily and did not capitalise, he dropped hammer heavily and did not capitalise. its therefore a confidence issue, plus the fact was he came in 2 stone overweight, he was nearly 20 stone FFS. he was never fit enough to do more than 4 rounds if the opponent was firing back. its a shame, a big shame, he is a lovely fella as is dave coldwell, but we have to be sensitive here. if price wants to fight again let it be at british level and not beyond, he could make the lonsdale belt his own. but from my point of view. call it a day big dave please.

he is a poor mans enzo maccarinelli really, always in good fights but can be horribly beaten.

this could be an awful year for dave coldwell...price badly defeated, now if bellew and macdonnell (x2) follow the same route, and they might, then the trainer that had wonkas golden ticket might end up with nothing.

success breeds success...........defeats breed confidence issues.

A VERY poor man's Maccarinelli. In fact the two don't really belong in the same sentence, Macc can be truly proud of a great career in the pros - exciting ups and downs, a version of a world title, European title, British title, exciting fights and really it can be said he got the maximum out of his style and attributes to become a really popular boxer with British boxing fans.

Price hasn't got near those levels.

Price used to fight at 245-247lbs. Under Coldwell each of his fighting weights have been about 2 stone heavier. His trainer, who I assume pockets a healthy percentage of his purse, claims on social media that this is nothing to do with him.

One thing that's infuriated me about Price is how chuffing slow his career moves. Half a year out after the second loss to Thompson. Almost a year out after the loss to Teper, with just two nothing wins in the whole of 2016. Chances are he'll take off most of the year and return late 2017 or early 2018 with a knock over. If he does carry on he should do it the Foreman comeback way, stringing together a run of a dozen or so stoppages against roadkill opposition. I think Hughie Fury got a dozen wins in 2013. Whilst nothing can take away the bad losses, Price can become relevant again at domestic/european level with a series of easy knock outs, to remind people what he can actually do.
