PPV figures for the Eubank fight

Post by rd350lc »

Not being a fan of pay per view bills for unworthy fights , I was wondering what figures last weekends did ?

Do these things get published , or is it just a case of " yeah it did fantastic numbers " from the parties involved ?

On a personal note I hope it bombed and would love to get more boxing back on free to air tv.

I was impressed at how easy it was to watch online. No problem at all.

There are many live feeds on the interent. Before the fight I had a look around, the facebook live feed came onto my page as a mate linked it so I saw that feed by purely not searching for it.

There was a live feed on Vipbox, cricfree and cricfreeHD. So god knows how many people were watching it for free.

I listened to that earlier mate. They made a joke about there being more viewers on that Scouse dudes feed than there was PPV buys

The thing is if it had of been on free to air on saturday night around ten 'o' clock and with good promotion it would pull in really good viewing figures and he could become a well known boxer nationwide and with ITV's backing become a rich man , sounds like they lost a lot of sales FB then and I really can't see this PPV thing against mediocre opposition being a big draw longterm.

I paid for it, but also saw that facebook live thing. IIRC 37k the for main event.

This should have bee ITV prime time after The Voice with a promo during The Voice breaks. It would have nailed 5 million +

How many million viewers are needed to make a terrestrial show viable?

If it did less than 100k then I have to say it did less than I thought it would. A few people I know who've never commented on any boxing before and clearly don't know much about it watched it and paid.

If it did do the supposed 87k bandied about in here earlier then it's confirmation that building his profile on ITV first would have paid dividends. Take this fight on terrestrial in front of an audience of doubtless millions and then in your next fight you'd stand to possibly take 5 times the number of PPV buys.

Wonder how the funds are split? How much would ITV take, how much Eubank gets, does Richard Poxon get a cut and does all the other fighters purses come out of that too?

Not sure how the ppv panned out.

But does anyone think that all the free views on streams and facebook, although not paying customers, all help to build his profile and will actually be seen as a plus by the Eubanks?

The exposure through advertising on ITV has got the name and image out there to the wider public, the debate over ppv has made a bit of noise and kept us talking about him more than we would have had it been a free to air bill.

Yes the PPV might have done poorly (I think they'll be pleased if it broke even)
But the event was high profile and I'm guessing Eubank is probably a far better known fighter as a result and I suspect that will bode well for his future.

He's managed the feat of fighting a nobody for a kiddy-on title and not even performing that well... and probably massively boosting his profile and fast becoming one of the best known names in the British fight scene.
I don't think ppv sales are the be all and end all here.

A few points.

I think you're bang on about free views, streams and social media awareness. 'Brand recognition' is a bit of a wanky term but it's something that some promoters are keenly aware of and others just don't seem to understand. This fight was, to everyone concerned, a joke, but having Eubank all over Facebook is a plus. However...

Having Eubank all over Facebook with the net result being people laughing at him isn't quite as good a look. From casual observance a lot of the reaction hasn't been about the fight, but more about the platform not working and issues with the blue screen; a frankly disastrous start.

I think 'massively boosting' his profile overstates things. If figures are poor, then that answers the one question that dominated the pre-fight build up, which wasn't of course 'who will win' or even 'how will they win' but 'how many people are going to pay to watch a fight this crap?'

Eubank is still a very small fish all truth be told. Yes, Saunders is fighting in leisure centres and yes, that's a fight that makes sense for both. But the reality is he's talked Golovkin, he's talked Groves, he's talked DeGale, and he's delivered Quinlan.

They should of stuck this show on normal ITV to build up eubanks profile then start PPV on the next fight .
I agree entirely. I just think that, given the controversial decision to go this route and the high likelyhood that it hasn't been a success in terms of ppv numbers, I strongly suspect it's still been a win in terms of inflating the Eubank brand recognition. That's what they were aiming for.

I think the idea of a couple of free shows on terrestrial tele would have worked better. But this has probably done more for him, than say slowly building a resume against the Artur Akavovs of this world on allegedly in front of a packed Paisley leisure centre. Bare in mind, BJS is the one that won their fight, is still undefeated and has a world title.
Eubanks profile is greater and had a GGG fight in his grasp, if he wanted it.

Because Eubank dominated the second half of their fight.

It was all Eubank and you got the feeling he was the boss.

The bookies make him a big favourite if they have a rematch. Saunders will have his fans but those odds tell you that it's generally thought that Eubank would win. The bookies don't give away money.
