Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
Hope it's ok to post a link from BN - this is a very telling interview. Contradictions, going from victim to bully boy (boasting how he would bite Haye's nose off in the street) loads of self justification (but a strange quote about how Haye would've beaten him at cruiserweight.) Some odd quotes, I will pull some out when I'm on my computer.
Bellew seems to have a narcissistic personality but there are enough clues here he's bottling it. And will crap himself.

He really does talk a load of old shite. That interview is exactly what I hate about him. I do not like who he is, how he presents himself, his stupid arse opinions, the example he sets or the utter bs that comes out of his mouth. He has achieved more than me, in a sporting context, and if you actually value that above other things in the world, but seriously he has a superior attitude that is completely unjustified. He is boxing and winning one version of a splintered alphabet title, it is hardly curing cancer !

Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
Ok one might as well quote the whole article it's so embarrassing, but here are my prime quotes and comments:
Conclusion: Bellend will literally shit himself in the dressing room... get in the ring. His mind will be all over the place when the size of the task dawns on him. He'll come out like a deer in headlights, get belted out in a round, then later telling everyone that he's a warrior, and that no one would've taken up such a big challenge, that he did it because he loves his family, and say how if he'd had a few heavyweight fights to get used to the weight, instead of jumping straight up (which no one ever had the balls to do except Bellend), he would have a good chance to beat Haye. But because he's a scouser and warrior he just went to battle for Liverpool, Everton and his kids and is a warrior and blah blah blah blah
Trying for the sympathy vote: 'I'm a family man'! 'Ah luv me fam-leh'.... He 'froze' - he knew his kids were going to be there. He sounds like 8Ace out of ViZ. 'I love me bairns!!!!' . Just trying to make everyone think he's the good, nice family guy..... a change of tactic seen in his posts after he got spoken to by Haye's left hand. Then I just heard, ‘Dad.’ I froze. Bear in mind, my son had never been to one of my fights and he’ll never go to another one. It was just that I had to have him there on that night, because when my three boys get older and I wanted one of them to say they were there that night.
Um yeah Tony, except against Adonis StephensonI couldn’t believe that my little lad was going to see me go to f*****g war and do what I do. Because when I get into a fight, it isn’t a boxing match, I’m giving it everything I’ve got. In a fight I will never bitch, I will never sidetrack, I will fight it head-on.
Sounds like he's accepting defeat alreadyI could knock David Haye out in 10 seconds, it won’t matter, I’ve had my night. I achieved my dream, and not many people can say that.
Right...... but;We can do it right now you tart.’ In all honesty, I had no intention of belting him. I would never hit a fighter that hasn’t got gloves on.
He can look as big as he wants but I’m a different person on the street than I am in the boxing ring. The things that make me tick don’t make him tick, I’ll rip the nose off his face. When I flip a switch, it’s over. You only have to watch me fight; I got dropped flat on my face by Ovill McKenzie [in 2010] and the referee has counted to six, and I’m telling him to move out of the f*****g way. That’s the kind of person I am.
He better hope he doesn’t see me when there isn’t cameras there.
Admitting defeat already: Hum..... so you admit David would belt you at cruiserweight and claim he isn't a real heavyweight....Er..... and even though you've never fought at heavy yourself this gives you an advantage. Great logic TonyLook, I’ll be honest. The David Haye that knocked out Jean Marc Mormeck [in 2007] might have been a task too far for me. I admit that. But this version of David Haye? A bit slower, heavier, a step behind? He’s perfect for me.
Sorry Tony - a minute ago you said you always went to war and would never back off.... now you're admitting you sh1t it and ran.
Don’t think for one minute I’m going to run. I did that once, against Adonis Stevenson, and it’s the biggest regret of my career. I should have just gone out in that fight and traded with him, because I had the power to do him

I do cringe a bit when Bellew's in fight mode but I do think he deserves a lot of credit for going in the ring with Haye, its a bold move whatever way you look at it, I wonder if he was assured beforehand when he started pushing for the fight that he wouldn't be stripped of his Cruiser title

"He'd better hope he doesn't see me when there are no cameras around" intentional or not that is comedy gold
Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
He says that he has known his wife since they were 9, then says they've been mates for 30yrs. That would make him and her -5 in there dads ball sacks.

I still can't believe this joke of a fight is happening! Haye must think all his Xmases have come at once. A yappy little cruiser being served up on box office! If Haye fell in the Thames he'd come out with a Salmon in his gub! He'll probably slap Tony around and go straight in to a world heavyweight fight!
Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
At the end of the day, this is a fight nobody asked for except Tony himself.
The motive is money and providing for his family. Fair enough and I can't argue with that.
But on paper he's beaten in all areas in this - power, speed, experience, boxing ability, sharpness, confidence.
Can he do it? it's unlikely.
But all of this drama is born out of Bellew ridiculing and goading Haye to take the fight, so it's all fair game now as far as Haye is concerned. He really wants to hurt Bellew and that much is plain. He also wants to put it on Hearn & Matchroom too, given his outburst at the press conference.
Haye's strategy is to annihilate Bellew and then call out Joshua vs Klitchko winner, try his best and then probably retire again (win or lose) and resume his social past times on yachts and in in bars in hot countries. I cant blame him really.
Disclosure: I dont mind either guy really. All bluster.

I'm amazed at how many people picked Bellew to win in Boxing Monthly, you can see why the likes of Price have but some neutrals...
Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
Chisora, Froch, Liam Walsh, Steve Collins, Nelson, Saunders, Brendan Ingle, Price, Gallagher, Woodhall, Jamie McDonnell, Jim McDonnell.
Lockett, Hughie Fury and Peter Fury say it's 50-50 and give him a chance of winning.
You can see how some of them have a bias towards Bellew (Scouser, dislike of Haye, SKY/Matchroom etc). Still, find it really surprising.

'Surprising' is an understatement, I used to respect the opinions of Ingle, Woodhall and Jim McDonnell but now !!
I think we can discount Hughie's 'opinion' (he's only saying what his dad told him to as usual and he is a cretin)

It's good seeing Bellew reluctant to act the hard man around Haye. He knows he'll get sparked out. I get the feeling he's worried about this fight and a bit scared of Haye. Which may be a good thing.
But we are going to get McKenzie 2 from Bellew, make no doubt about it.

Hopefully, the bookies will start taking this into account and start drifting the odds on Haye by KO. Haye has moved in from 11/4 in rounds 1-3 to 5/2 and from evens in rounds 1-6 to 8/13.orbtastic wrote:Chisora, Froch, Liam Walsh, Steve Collins, Nelson, Saunders, Brendan Ingle, Price, Gallagher, Woodhall, Jamie McDonnell, Jim McDonnell.

I may hold off putting more cash on this until people read this and think Bellew is 'value'
Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
I was very surprised too. Am starting to think there must be something I have completely misunderstood about this fight.orbtastic wrote:I'm amazed at how many people picked Bellew to win in Boxing Monthly, you can see why the likes of Price have but some neutrals...
On a separate note, some posters above have suggested possible reasons for Bellew's change of approach to Haye in the last month or two. One that hasn't been suggested is that, as Sky have mentioned in passing, his boxer's licence is subject to a "suspended suspension" until 11 March - see http://www.bbbofc.com/content/central-a ... ember-2016, so he cannot foul up in that period.

Re: Tony Bellew reveals David Haye's 'distasteful' comments during The Gloves Are Off
during his very good commentary for McDonnell v Solis, Bellew did seem very familiar with McDonnell as a fighter in the gym and as a person. He went into detail about what Jamie looked like in training sessions. Unless this was research for Sky Sports.orbtastic wrote:ScouserAutobarn wrote:Think Jamie McDonnell is his mate and they've worked among each other in gyms before.orbtastic wrote:Chisora, Froch, Liam Walsh, Steve Collins, Nelson, Saunders, Brendan Ingle, Price, Gallagher, Woodhall, Jamie McDonnell, Jim McDonnell.
