It's what you make of it. If you just follow stuff in the US, yeah it's been a bit shit, LSC Vs Frampton was great and lived up to expectation whilst other bouts, like Crawford Vs Postol, failed to live up to expectation. Sadly we're going to be talking about what we didn't get, and how the networks have cut the funding and stuff, and the mismatches involving Golovkin and Canelo.

In the UK things haven't been frustrating with Quigg Vs Frampton being crap, and Fury being...well Fury, but we've had some great stuff like Linares Vs Crolla, having Golovkin on the British shores and the emergence of Josh Taylor and Andre Selby. Also, as much of a pillock as I think he is, Tony Bellew has done what I didn't expect he ever would

If you mainly follow the Heavyweight scene the picture has been horribly bleak, and it's possibly the worst year in living memory for the division with Wilder/Povetkin being called off and the Wilder injuring himself in a stay busy against Arreola, Fury having his issues, Klitschko not fighting, no combination of Ortiz/Parker/Pulev/Povetkin/Wilder/Fury/Klitschko/Joshua facing off.

It's also been crap if you concetrate on 140-160lbs with little of real intrigue actually happening.

If you follow the lower weights however we've had-
The emergence of Jezreel Corrales, Sosa beating Fortuna, Salido Vs Vargas, Lomachenko showing his abilities at a new weight, Watanabe Vs Ito, Barros Vs Hosono, Frampton Vs LSC, Guzman Vs Wake, the emergence of Maruta, Yamanaka Vs Moreno II, Tapales Vs Pungluang, the developments at 115 (Kono Vs Concepcion was great, Gonzalez Vs Cuadras was amazing, the emergence of Ancajas, the upcoming Yafai Vs Concepcion bout, Conlan Vs Nelson and Estrada looking to plant his name in the division), the wide spread changes at 112 (with the emergence of Zoda, Higa, Waseem, the move up for Nietes), Taconing finally getting his shot at 108, Tanaka Vs Fuentes finally being signed, the rise of Ken Shiro, Taniguchi Vs Alimento (and Alimento Vs Chanachai), Tecuapetla Vs Yaegashi, Fahlan Jr Vs Melindo coming up, At 105 we've had Knockout Vs Rojas and Wanheng Vs Juarez putting 4 of the best in the ring, and Rojas Vs Budler. Fukuhawa Vs Hanai coming up later this week too!

Yeah the year has had some disappointments, some big ones, but theres been plenty happening even if it's not been on US TV.

We've been through some of the worst months especially October, but November and December are looking very, very good.

I can hardly wait for Kovalev-Ward.

We also have Lomachenko-Walters, Charlo-Williams, Murray-Chudinov, Gvozdyk-Chilemba, Barrera-Shabranskyy, Lebedev-Gassiev, Povetkin-Stiverne, Huck-Kucher, Lipinets-Zappavigna, Smith-Hopkins, and others.

Although 2016 has been a boring year so far, but it will end with LOTS of excitement.

I've been following the sport pretty much the same amount of time, and I'm with ya. I got into the sport in late 2001, and this is by far the worst year of Boxing I've ever been witness to.

I've been following it over 40 years and it's not even close to the worst yet. Do I have you this year was essentially setting the table. Many things got worked out for better or worse and I think there's a clear picture of what's to come in 2017. I started to get a little active again in the sport these past 18 months--really just working with different managers and promoters (introducing people to one another) we had a 5+ cards roll through (including Canelo, Spence Jr, etc) and I'm geeked about 2017.

like the wlad and mayweather years were so much better. yes, 2016 was super boring, but a lot of years were similar as boring. serguy pascal was good, thurman porter was all action, ggg tko brook was good. their were some good ones in 2016..aint all bad

Postol v Crawford was not as competitive but it was a brilliant boxing exhibition.

Frampton v LSC was a great fight. I look forward to the rematch.

Cuadras v Chocolatito was another great fight.

Vargas v Pac may be a sleeper, which reminds me of Ramming Speed v Pac 3.

I don't think that this is the worst year.

good point! have to dig it up, but i
guess i find something well during
the rise of manny, at the end of the
nineties, during the early eighties
with the fab four and early seventies
mainly due to the heavies.

Interesting as I have the opposite view. The "rise of manny' was when I felt boxing was at it's lowest point here in the US. Remember though, I come from the Ali v Frazier/Shavers/Foreman/Spinks era on through the murderers row era so it was crackin', I'll go as far as saying after Pretty Boy fought Sugar Shane the sport seemed to decline in popularity some. Who knows. Again, just interesting to read about differing views as what you found most boring I found most exciting and vice-versa. Peace
