Fighters of the last 30 years
Fighters of the last 30 years
Mayweather, Pacquiao, Roy Jones Jr, Whitaker, JCC etc
Guys who topped the p4p lists in the last 25-30 years, whats the highest you could rank any of these guys in a top 100 ATG list?
And why?
How many recent fighter do you think make it into your top 100?

Very hard to do a top 100, fair play to anyone who makes the effort.
Off the top of my head I'd have Pea, FMJ, Manny, JM Marquez, Jones jnr, Hopkins, Morales and Azumah Nelson in my top 100. I will give it some thought and update my post if possible.

Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Of the last 25 or 30 years, I have:
Floyd Mayweather, Jr should definitely be in the top ten ATG best fighters. I have him ranked at #7.
Others that I consider top 50 or top 100 ATGs pound per pound:
Pernell Whitaker around #22
Manny Pacquiao around #23
Julio Cesar Chavez around #25
Evander Holyfield around #28
Bernard Hopkins around #42
Roy Jones, Jr around #75
Marco Antonio Barrera around #76
Juan Manuel Marquez around #77
Ricardo "Finito" Lopez around #80
Something like that. I don't remember very well at what position I got them, but, I think that's around the ball park they should be in my view.
When I go home, I will put the right ranking in a later post. I got them ranked on paper.

Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Interesting one of you has Morales and the other Barrera but neither has both.
Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Ricardo Lopez is definitely higher than 80... He never lost in 52 fights... He kept his guard up and was amazingly disciplined and consistent.. He suffers from the fact that lighter weight fighters don't get the recognition of publicity that the higher weights get, so most of his opponents are unknown.

Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
This is how I exactly I got them in my view:
Inside the top 50:
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at #7
Pernell Whitaker at #23
Manny Pacquiao at #26
Julio Cesar Chavez at #27
Evander Holyfield at #37
Bernard Hopkins at #42
Outside the top 50:
Roy Jones, Jr at #65
Juan Manuel Marquez at #78...(His KO win over Pac man got him in)
Ricardo "Finito" Lopez at #80
Marco Antonio Barrera at #84
Mike Tyson at #94
Is it fair enough? I think so. At least in my view.

Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Mayweather, Pacquiao, RJJ and Whitaker are the 4 stand outs of the last 25 years for me, I couldn't have Floyd so far ahead of that pack
Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Wow u have RJJ that low? Id have him in my top 20,p4p prime RJJ would of beat most boxers in history. No one would of lived with the speed of a mid 90's 168lb joneselmersalsa wrote:This is how I exactly I got them in my view:

Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Mayweather would be right up there as he has fought the best of his era minus margarito, paul williams and tyszu in the early 00's he ducked all 3 but apart from these he has a who's who of the best boxers in and around his weight for the past 17 years. RJJ would be high on my list as the p4p means who he could beat in any weight if he were their weight and prime RJJ would of beaten most as his speed, variation of shots and timing would of given any boxer of any generation nightmaresdavie wrote:Mayweather, Pacquiao, Roy Jones Jr, Whitaker, JCC etc

Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Super Roy was a great fighter with tremendous and extraordinary top flight skills. But, he really didn't face the cream of the crop best fighters of his era. He should have done more. Fighting policemen and school teachers don't get you nowhere. The 64 guys that I ranked before him really faced the very best of his time. After Jones beat James Toney in 1994, I don't see a top flight fighter in his resume that made me say "wow!"thechump wrote:Wow u have RJJ that low? Yes, he became world champion at heavyweight. He won a piece of the crown. But, against someone like John Ruiz is not something of better merit than when the great Bob Fitzsimmons stopped Gentleman James J. Corbett to win the real heavyweight world championship. Ruby Robert beat the best heavyweight on paper. Jones? He didn't. If Jones would have beaten someone like Lennox Lewis, then, there wouldn't be not much to talk about. He probably would have been considered today by boxing experts as the best fighter of all time. No doubt about it.
Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
I like Lomachenko, Golovkin, Mayweather, Kovalev, Ward, Toney, Jones, Hopkins, the K Bros, Lewis, Haye, Pacquiao, De La Hoya, Mosley, Finito Lopez, Rigondeaux, Donaire, Walters, Russell, Crawford, Thurman, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe, Mikey Garcia, Cotto, Carbajal, Barrera, Morales, Forrest, Chocolatito, Tszyu, Marquez, Spence, Joshua, Ortiz, Tapia, Fury, Wilder, Povetkin, Judah, Froch, Corrales, Uysk, Canelo, and there's probably another 50 that don't come immediately to mind -- or didn't get the recognition -- who were pretty good boxers.
Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Thought McCallum might have been mentioned and maybe khaosi galaxy
Re: Fighters of the last 30 years
Mike McCallum definitely---but his career overlapped Duran, Hagler, and Leonard a lot, though he didn't get a chance to fight them. His best years were when he was knocking out guys like Julian Jackson, Dwight Braxton, and Don Curry... Some of those were beyond 30 years ago -- but he was on the cusp ... so I'd include him.
