Credit to Duco. They have steered Parker's career along very nicely and at the same time provided NZ with title fights.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
Perhaps the location for the fight isn't as clear cut as we'd thought :
“Joseph is the current WBO world champion, so him fighting Fury could have considerable value in England, if it’s prime time, and then set up quite a juicy unification against say the winner of Joshua-Klitschko,” said Parker’s promoter David Higgins.
“Becoming a star in England is not a bad idea, because it’s such a good market with a big, powerful pay-per-view opportunity.”
“How do you become a star in England? You knock out Englishman and so doing it in New Zealand that would work, but doing it in England could be better to make an impact up there,” said Higgins.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
WBC champion Deontay Wilder says he has set his sights on Joseph Parker and his WBO title:
"I want Joseph Parker," Wilder said.
"This is how I want things to go and this is what my team has in mind as well - 2017 is all about unifications," said Wilder.
"I'm not looking past Gerald Washington. But I look through it. I'm window shopping. After Gerald Washington, we're going after the winner of Hughie Fury and Joseph Parker, which I'm predicting Joseph Parker to win. So, I'm going after Joseph Parker for the WBO title."

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
Auckland or England? Decision looms on Joseph Parker fight venue
Joseph Parker's handlers are on a "knife edge" over their decision as to where to hold Parker's defence against Hughie Fury, saying they hope to make a final decision this week and that England is still very much an option.
A fight in England - and probably Manchester - would be in enemy territory for Parker, who was thankful he fought on home soil following his mandatory decision victory to claim the vacant WBO title belt against Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr at Auckland's Vector Arena in November.
But for his promoters Duco Events there are clear advantages. The bidding for the prime-time television rights in the UK is likely to be strong and would help mitigate the financial risk after they successfully beat out Fury's promoter allegedly with a $NZ4,100,000 purse bid offer.
And, should Parker beat the undefeated Fury, as most would expect, the 25-year-old south Aucklander's profile in the UK would sky-rocket ahead of a possible showdown with Anthony Joshua later in the year.
A working date for Parker v Fury is April 1, but that could change if the bout is held in the UK.
Duco's David Higgins told the Herald on Sunday today that while he and Parker appreciated the sentiments of WBC world champion Deontay Wilder, an American who said recently he was targeting Parker's WBO title as he begins his attempt to unify the division, Englishman Joshua loomed larger in Parker's sights.
"Beating Hughie Fury will raise Joseph's status in the UK quite markedly and it would probably make more sense to target Joshua next rather than Wilder," Higgins said.
"The UK is such a big heavyweight market at the moment, with Joshua, David Haye and Tyson Fury... so that is the direction we would probably go in.
"We could look to fight Wilder at the end of the year or early next year."

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
if he wants the big buck$$$ in the future than its a no brainer, go fight fury in the uk and knock him silly to introduce the rest of the world to joseph parker.
his stocks would rise to another level surely.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
Is Hughie even that well known or respected in the UK? His fights havent been major affairs, and I'm not sure if defeating him in Britain would really be that much of a deal for the British fans and media.

All Boxing needs right now in this part of the world for Boxing's sake are professional judge's that are really professional judge's we don't need shady character's dressed up like professional sport's official's anytime soon i'm hoping Parker stops Hughie before we get to the judge's and don't you Boss start talking rubbish its about Boxing becoming creditable again not who your favourite fighter is incompetent/cheating judge's should be exposed it's not good for Boxing this is our next big fight please be fair.

Fighting Hughie in NZ is guaranteed to be even less of a big deal in the UK.crusader wrote:Is Hughie even that well known or respected in the UK? His fights havent been major affairs, and I'm not sure if defeating him in Britain would really be that much of a deal for the British fans and media.
If they want to build up a Joshua or Haye fight having Parker fight in the UK in advance would be a decided advantage.
Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
AJ and Haye are already boxing stars in the UK, and Parker vs either of those would sell well based on their names and the title factor. Hughie Fury hardly does big numbers in the UK, and I'm not convinced that Parker beating him there provides a significant boost to Parker vs AJ or Haye, especially if JP turns a performance like his last one (would he even get the decision if that happens in the UK?).
Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
he's got to start sometime doesn't he.
don't know how anyone could find fault with fighting fury in the uk tbh.
it's a win win imo.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
I just have doubts about it making much of a difference to the profitability of Parker vs AJ or Haye, and his opponent would enjoy home advantage. Doesn't matter to me as a fan, but from a business perspective I'm not sure it's worth JP's team being excited over.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
The uncertainty about where Parker's last fight would be held became an ongoing saga. Hopefully now only 6 weeks out they have settled on Auckland. But I'm not sure they have signed off on it yet.

Fury can be a slippery customer. Should be a reasonable test for Parker.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury appears to have finally been confirmed for NZ.
But that could create challenges for Hughie's father and trainer Peter Fury.
Peter might not even be allowed into NZ.
NZ refused Mike Tyson entry 5 years ago when he was doing his talk tour and Peter Fury was a bigger crim than Tyson ever was.
The US knocked Peter back in 2013 and he was forced to watch Tyson Fury's fight against Steve Cunningham on TV from Canada.
Immigration NZ has already indicated Peter will need a special exemption and character waiver.

Should be a really interesting clash of styles. The powerful Parker versus the awkward switch-hitter Fury.
Re: Joseph Parker vs Hughie Fury in NZ - April 1st
This fight apparently close to falling through. Fury hasn't signed JP will be allowed a voluntary if he doesn't get it done. Fury's father says it will be done.
