Rigondeaux vs. Flores Eyed For Showtime Date in March or April

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to Flores, he's been in contact with his manager Al Haymon, who is trying to get that fight on Showtime with a date landing in March or April.

A source close to Rigondeaux said they are expecting a new date soon from promoter Roc Nation.

Since the end of 2013, Rigo has fought James Dickens, Drian Francisco, Hisashi Amagasa (dropped twice), and Sod Looknongyangtoy. Donaire was 4 years ago, Ramos was 5 years ago, and Cordoba was 7 years ago.

He needs a meaningful fight soon, and this would at least be a nice step in the right direction.

Fought twice in the last 2 years. He can maybe fight 3 times this year.

Would be Rigo's best opponent in a couple of years, not that that's meaningful considering he's been fighting once a year against nobodies lately.

Not sure what to think of Flores. He's 25-0 but his record is kind of puffed up. Not too many decent opponents. The fact that he had close fights with Escandon and Ambunda doesn't make me think he has much of a chance against Rigo.

A Rigo/Magdaleno unification would be a big deal at 122, which has become a seriously stagnant division.

122 is a strange one, you say stagnant but we've got Guzman, Oguni, Kuga, Kubo,Vargas, McDonnell and Magdaleno, Kim, Servania, Iwasa, all looking there or there abouts

Lotta those guys are just OK or are unproven at the very least. At least a few (Kim, Servania, McDonnell, Vargas) have fought very poor opposition.

Oguni seems like the best of the Japanese bunch, it would be interesting to see him fight Donaire.

Unproven or not it's a big change from a few years ago, when Frampton and Quiggq were on their slow collision course facing the likes of a recycled Kiko and blown Bantams like Jamoye and Munyai.

Certainly not the best division going but we are seeing the new blood come through and to me, personally, that's interesting. It's not the strongest but it's not what I'd consider stagnant.

Hasegawa retiring, Donaire looking almost done, Rigo almost forgotten about and Quigg and Frampton moving up...it's having a shake up, even if the guys shaking it up aren't sensational fighters or the most proven...though Cermeno is an outlier who has seemingly began a second career in his late 30's

For me Light Heavyweight feels much more stagnant. The top prospects are waiting for a shot, the top guys overall seem to be waiting and waiting and waiting for the others to make their move. Guys like Beterbiev are still waiting to get a title fight, the same as 2 years ago. Welterweight also feels pretty stagnant, with guys like Berto, Collazo and Khan still being regarded as contenders.
