Stiverne Rejects Luis Ortiz Fight: I Have Bigger Fish To Fry!

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs) has rejected the idea of facing Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs). Both boxers are positioned for a final WBC world title eliminator.

With Alexander Povetkin's removal from the rankings, Ortiz is now ranked in the number two position and Bermane Stiverne sits at one.

Stiverne already tried to file a petition to go around the possibility of having to take part in a final eliminator. He feels, that Povetkin's testing failure should automatically allow him to bypass the elimination process.

The WBC did not agree with Stiverne and rejected his request. The sanctioning body will grant Stiverne a mandatory shot - but only if he wins a final eliminator. Ortiz is already the WBA's mandatory challenger to the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko, which takes place on April 29 at Wembley.

There is no guarantee that Ortiz will get the winner, as the IBF has also mandated the winner of that contest to face Kubrat Pulev.

Stiverne appears to want no part of the fight, revealing on social media that Ortiz is not a big enough fight for him.

"Just to clear up the rumors and lies, A fight between Ortiz and I isn't happening. We got bigger fish to fry," Stiverne stated.

Looks like Ortiz is the most feared guy in the division atm.

He'd rather go to a big fish fry than fight Ortiz... Wilder will probably be at the same fish fry....lol

That's bad coming from a Wilder fan.

I don't know what bigger plans there could be out there for him when he's been so inactive.

Not sure about what fish he has to fry, but to me it smells like Stiverne is frying up a large portion of duck...

Stiverne to be used as a mandatory for Wilder - but he will throw the fight again just like he did the first time - Haymon doesn't want Wilder to have to get in the ring with Ortiz or Povetkin and so he won't let those fights happen - "What Al Haymon wants Al Haymon gets - Al Haymon can manipulate (fix) anything" - Paulie malignaggi

Stiverne doesn't fight anyone, I think it's lazy more than fear.

AH, I know those initials from some loser from WW2.
Anyway, Stiverne is just another North American pussy, like most boxers above Mexico.
If he doesn't fight Povetkin or Ortiz I can't take it seriously.

When was the last time Stiverne fought anybody?

He's fortunate to be still ranked so highly.

He might as well go away & fry fish, because he sure as hell doesn't box anymore!

After Wilder, he fought 11 months later and floored, just about won. He hasn't fought now for over a year. How is he still ranked??

I want to know too.

He also looked like he'd been eating all that fish he claims to be frying too, as he looked like an Odlanier Solis tribute act!

These orgs need more organisation. Stiverne clearly doesn't want to fight Ortiz who is mandated, he should lose his spot. Ortiz is willing, next highest is Dillian Whyte. Easy fight to make, due to Eddie Hearn. Winner gets Wilder later in the year.

1 .- Bermane Stiverne (Haiti/Canada)
2 .- Luis Ortiz (Cuba)
3 .- Kubrat Pulev (Bulgaria)
4 .- Dillian Whyte (Jamaica/GB) INTL/BBB C
5 .- Andy Ruiz (Mexico)
6 .- Carlos Takam (Cameroon)
7 .- Johann Duhaupas (France)
8 .- Gerald Washington (US)
9 .- Mariusz Wach (Poland)
10 .- Andriy Rudenko (Ukraine) INTL Silver
11 .- Dominic Breazeale (US) * CBP/P
12 .- Kyotaro Fujimoto (Japan) OPBF
13 .- Charles Martin (US) * CBP/P
14 .- Eric Molina (USA)
15 .- Chris Arreola (US) * CBP/P

Pulev will take IBF route. Ortiz is also mando for WBA.

Stiverne meant it literally. He has some catfish to fry.

Stiverne is the quintessential "boxer" who doesn't box.

Is it feasible for Bermane Stiverne to actually be in possession of a better, more lucrative and prestigious, opportunity than the one he might receive from the WBC than facing Luis Ortiz?

Shouldn't we at least withhold judgment until we ascertain Stiverne's next opponent?

I'd be happy if he fought Dillian Whyte or Andy Ruiz
