Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
Horn must be thrilled to have landed this opportunity, but even against mediocre opposition he hasn't really impressed me. He's obviously a solid fighter, but it's been years since Manny faced someone who I think was clearly worse.
Pacman should have an easy night unless he's faded a lot since outclassing Vargas.

Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
The Queensland State Government will meet with promoters Duco Events on Tuesday and Suncorp Stadium is expected to be locked in as early as this week for the April 23 bout between Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao.
The fight will be beamed into 159 countries including 92 million homes in China and 33 million in America through the Home Box Office network.
Horn’s promoter Dean Lonergan has been given a guarantee the telecast will include eight minutes of editorial content promoting Queensland tourism worth $100 million in exposure.
He is finalising his proposal for funding from Australian State Governments.
Horn’s manager Glenn Rushton said the Queensland Government could underwrite Horn-Pacquiao for less than $10 million, saying the advertising benefits and tourism boost it would generate made it a “bargain’’.
“This is a huge event for world sport and Queensland can get it at a bargain price,’’ Mr Rushton said.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said her Government would lace up the gloves if the finances were right. “There is no bad seat at Suncorp Stadium and I can see why the organisers have identified it as a possible venue for the bout,” she said.
“If it stacks up for the taxpayer, Queensland will be in the fight for the fight.”

Eight-weight world title holder Manny Pacquiao has seemingly dismissed recent comments by long-time promoter Bob Arum that he will face Jeff Horn in the spring ahead of his retirement at the end of 2017
Arum has been vocal in the media expressing his desire to secure a venue for a clash with Horn, which the Top Rank boss stated would be the first of what would be Pacquiao’s last year as a pro.
Pacquiao has now spoken out on his own future and says he could fight on after 2017, whilst also confirmed no talks about a fight with Horn had been held with Arum.

“I think I can do 3, 4 more fights. Two years maybe," Pacquiao told Boyet Sison and Freddie Webb on the ‘Fast Break’ radio program.
“I don't have a vice. I don't drink and I don't even drink soft drinks. I don't like eating fatty food. I don't eat pork. It's about being disciplined.”
On his role in the Senate and a potential fight with Australian Horn, Pacquiao added: “I don't take my work as a lawmaker for granted. I'm excited to be a legislator and senator, but boxing is my passion. I feel down when I think about not being in boxing anymore. I tell myself I can still fight, I feel strong, so why don't I just continue boxing?
"I have made no final decision on my opponent as we have not concluded negotiations. We have not talked with Bob Arum and we have not talked about my next opponent, "he clarified.
These latest comments are sure to add more confusion to where Pacquiao will eventually go next as the Filipino Senator attempts to seal a future revenge mission himself with Juan Manuel Marquez.

'Pacman' has asked the Department of Tourism for P3 billion ($60m) to help set up a fifth clash with Marquez, which Pacquiao wants to happen in the final quarter of 2017, around the same time Arum has plans for a massive bout with Terence Crawford.

Pacquiao wants much more than the reported amount he has been offered to fight Jeff Horn
Manny Pacquiao's financial adviser has told him not to sign anything until there is more cash on the table.
While Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum told The Courier-Mail from Las Vegas “it would be wrong to reveal Manny’s purse’’ as such matters were confidential, Mike Koncz, Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser, said he was “aghast’’ when he heard the figure of $US5 million at Horn’s press conference last week announcing the fight.
Koncz told World Boxing News: “Manny even asked me if I agreed to that and I told him ‘of course not. You know me better than that.’”
Koncz said the reported purse of $US5m was not enough given the Filipino’s stature and drawing power.

Looks like money is the only obstacle getting this fight over the line (granted a pretty big obstacle).
Pacquiao: I would love to fight in Australia
By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing
Future hall of famer Manny Pacquiao has not seen WBO#2 Jeff Horn in action but would love to fight in Australia where he has visited previously but has not signed off for the WBO welterweight championship bout against the Brisbane school teacher Horn that has been scheduled for April 23.
“I cannot say if he’s ready because I didn’t see his style or his face yet, so I don’t know,” Pacquiao told Fox Sports News 500. “He needs to prove it in the ring. Because in my previous fights many of them are saying they will stop me, they will knock me out and it’s not happening. We’re not finalizing yet, the fight or a future fight. I didn’t talk to Bob Arum about that yet. I’m hoping that the fight will be in Australia, I’d love to do that. I’ve been to Australia once or twice but for gambling. I’m still there. It depends how you discipline your self and how you work hard in training. I love exercise, I love working out.”
Pacquiao has been offered a reported $5 million to defend against Horn in what would be the first fight of a world to tour which would also include bouts in England and Russia with the final contest against Terrence Crawford in the USA.

Deal struck for Pacquiao-Horn in Australia just waiting for Pacman’s signature
Looks like Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight title against Jeff Horn at Suncorp Stadium on April 23rd now that a multi-million dollar deal has been done with the State Government, and only Pacman’s signature is needed for the fight to happen.

Qld tourism minister confirms the state government has put its offer to promoters
Jeff Horn's hopes of hosting Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao in his hometown have been boosted with the Queensland government tabling a bid.
Horn's dream of fighting Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao in his hometown of Brisbane is a step closer to reality with the Queensland government formally bidding to host the fight.
Queensland tourism minister Kate Jones confirmed on Sunday the state government had put its offer to promoters with Suncorp Stadium the proposed venue for the April 23 WBO world welterweight championship bout.
Jones says a partnership bid from the Brisbane City Council is still in negotiation as promoters weigh whether to accept the offer.

Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
A really interesting article about Jeff Horn and his trainer Glen Ruston appeared in the Australian Newspaper. It is too large to post in its entirety here. But here is a shortcut to the full article.
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/life/we ... 93a79b4fcb
I found this part particularly interesting :
“I developed the style many years ago,” says Jeff Horn's trainer Glen Rushton, 59.
“I call it a ‘Broken Rhythm Pressure’ style. It’s built on chaos theory. I’m coming at you but you don’t know what I’m going to throw and you’ll never know what I’m gonna throw.” His hands form fists and his shoulders move and his legs wobble and his head shakes from side to side. “You don’t know when I’m comin’, you don’t know what I’m throwin’. You don’t know which way I’m comin’ in, you won’t know which way I’ll go out.
“There is a rhythm to it. You just can’t work it out. You won’t know it because, in fact, I don’t even know it. I’m just programmed to do so many things, programmed to adjust. The art of deception. Completely unpredictable but there’s a pattern there. A drop of water in a lake.

Glen Rushton is always going to praise his fighter. He had Cameron Hammond fight Kris George for the Commonwealth Title. He said Hammond was on another level to George. Kris totally outboxed him.

Good luck to them its unreal news I never ever thought Pacman would be fighting in Australia Against one of our Champs

Re: Jeff Horn vs Manny Pacquiao confirmed April 23rd - Aust frontrunner to host
Has Jeff fought a southpaw before,,Manny is the best southpaw I,ve seen since Hagler,, I don,t think any of Jeffs opponents were any where near Pacquiao,s ability,, Horn has opened his defence the last couple of fights, his trainer should be working on that, I think a few hard fights against top opposition before getting in with a fighter who loves to mix it,and is still a great fighter,, I just hope Jeff gets that right hand up where it should be, I would love to see him win this to get Aussie boxing back on the world stage,, all the best

PACQUIAO VS. HORN ON APRIL 22 LIKELY TO BE SHOWN ON HBO OR HBO PPV
Despite talk of Manny Pacquiao possibly fighting on ESPN, NBC, CBS or even Showtime, his next bout against Jeff Horn on April 22 will likely take place on either HBO or HBO Pay-Per-View, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told RingTV.com on Thursday.
“Whether it’s pay-per-view or regular HBO — it’s going to be done, the way I understand it based on their conversation, together with HBO,” Arum went on. Of talk of Pacquiao moving to Showtime and boxing chief Stephen Espinoza, Arum added, “I know Espinoza expressed interest but we’re not going to jump anyplace from HBO. Right now, we feel that Manny’s home is with HBO.”
Arum said he also expects a decision next week on where Pacquiao-Horn will take place, if it will be in Australia or in the Middle East, which seem to be the leading locales at the moment. And there isn’t any issue of Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 knockouts) approving Horn (16-0-1, 11 KOs) as an opponent. He’s fine with the selection, according to Arum. “That fight is done, as far as fighting each other,” Arum said. “Now we’re looking at either the fight being in Brisbane, Australia or in the Mideast and we’re finalizing everyone’s proposals. Lot of interest from venues putting up big money and we’ll make a decision next week.”

According to Duco, Top Rank are sending representatives to Brisbane next week to inspect Suncorp stadium.
Meanwhile Manny Pacquiao is running a poll on who people think he should be fighting and Bob Arum and Michael Koncz seem to be engaged in some kind of tug-of-war.
I'm taking all the information and misinformation about this fight with a grain of salt at this stage and the dust probably won't settle for a couple of weeks. But until I hear differently (and definitely) I'm going to assume it's still Horn's fight.

Jeff Horn thinks they are playing mindgames :
“It’s very confusing and frustrating,’’ Horn said.
“The fact that Pacquiao is now tweeting about different opponents is so annoying because we were under the impression that he had agreed to fight me on April 23. We don’t even know if it’s Pacquiao tweeting this stuff or if he’s given control of his page to someone else.
“I’ll fight him anywhere but obviously it would be awesome to have the fight in Brisbane. I think all these tweets are just mind games, a ploy for Pacquiao and his team to show me that they have all the power and they are calling the shots over the fight."
