Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
the work Brook did in building his weight up to a solid 176 needs to be undone...
He was having massive problems making 147 before he changed his body.. This is a Roy Jones scenario.. Roy went up to Heavyweight (like 203) and immediately came back down to Light Heavyweight for his next fight.. Roy got beaten up in his next fight -- and got knocked out in his next 2 fights after that.

He's only a welterweight and drains himself, because he knows he would carry the most power of all the 147'ers.. He would probably make 154 more comfortably but he knows some of the guys there will have more power than him. That;s his main attribute at 147. His power.Kalan wrote:the work Brook did in building his weight up to a solid 176 needs to be undone...

I'm sure RJJ weighed in at 193 pounds, was it by fight night he was 203? or 198? Also he won his next fight, just about. He lost after that.
Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Its not the weight cut that worries Hearn or Brook. Its Spence. Spence has about the same amount to cut as Brook does.

Great fight for the fans - Hope Spence isn't manipulated by Al Haymon to duck Spence and handpick an easier patsy

Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Good to see the excuses are already being lined up for when brook gets his beating.
Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
What if Spence refuse the fight? Haymon is known for is cherry picking.
Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Yeah Roy won his next fight---a bogus decision and he even admitted he lost.. His hometown crowd even booed the decision.. Roy was all beaten up and he started making excuses.. His face looked like Andre Ward's after the Kovalev fight.. But credit to Roy---he did the rematch.. "Any excuses tonight Roy?"Ruthless-RKO wrote:He's only a welterweight and drains himself, because he knows he would carry the most power of all the 147'ers.. You dont think its a bit easier for a young man to cut weight than someone who has been at the same weight for their whole career? There's a reason fighters tend to move up in weight as they get older....Badhusker wrote:Its not the weight cut that worries Hearn or Brook. Its Spence. Spence is 3 years younger and tends to walk around same weight as Brook. Has fought over 150 many timesCheckHook wrote:You dont think its a bit easier for a young man to cut weight than someone who has been at the same weight for their whole career? I'd much rather be in Spences' shoes when it comes to cutting the weight than in Brooks.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Spence is 3 years younger and tends to walk around same weight as Brook. Both are big welters but I think Brook was 'soften' by the move in weight to 160 lbs and then 'forced' to cut muscle mass to go at 147 for this fight, not to mention that Golovkin broke Brook's eye socket and battered him. So I think Spence has good chances to stop Brook.

Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Hopefully Brook makes the weight right ......which I'm sure they will or they certainly wouldn't be fighting Spence. Just feel Spence has really done anything to say he can beat Brook.... I wonder what will be said when Brook beats him....Khan will probably say you have to beat AJ or something ridiculous like that.
Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Brook didn't complain when he had to make the weight for Frankie Gavin, Bizer, and Dan, and he was 145.5 for Dan. He had no problem making 147 for Khan or Pacquiao, Both him and Spence walk around in the 170's, so there is no advantage or disadvantage for either guy. Some guys only fight once a year, and Brook fought at 147 a little less than a year ago.
There are a lot of fighters that gain weight in between fights. Brook only had to cut to 160 for his last fight. Some of you guys make it sound like he gained a huge amount of muscle up to 180 or 190 and now has to take off all the muscle. He has been fighting at welter for years, and is done growing. This fight isn't any different. Sure, he has to cut but so do a lot of guys. He knows there are no easy big name easy fights at 154, or he would be there. He is between Spence and a hard place.
The fight should be a good one, and the only reason Spence is heavily favored is because Brook took so long to make the fight, and couldn't find any way out of it. If he loses, he has built in excuses, so might as well fight.

This is a fantastic fight if it really happens - we could see something special - Both fighters have shown potential greatness and this kind of fight could propel both to the very elite level regardless of who wins and who loses - Boxing wins with this fight happening -

Agree mate. This fight is awesome. Fingers crossed it comes off.montrealsuper wrote:This is a fantastic fight if it really happens - we could see something special - Both fighters have shown potential greatness and this kind of fight could propel both to the very elite level regardless of who wins and who loses - Boxing wins with this fight happening -
Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Okay. Here's the problem with that argument. Roy Jones changed his body to go Heavyweight.. It's not that he never dropped that much weight before but Roy added a lot of muscle leading up to the Ruiz fight---and it’s more difficult for an active athlete to lose muscle weight.. To get ready for Tarver he had to work out hard. Working out hard tends to keep muscle on. The best way to lose muscle is take 6 months off---don't train at all---just relax and let that new muscle weight naturally dissipate. The muscles will atrophy because you’re not using them much.Badhusker wrote:Brook didn't complain when he had to make the weight for Frankie Gavin, Bizer, and Dan, and he was 145.5 for Dan. The problem comes if you’re working out hard -- and the muscle doesn’t want to shrink when you're working them a lot. You have to starve yourself and you burn off actual individual muscle fibers.. You never get those individual fibers back.. When Brook wants to go back up to Middleweight he’ll need to hypertrophy the remaining fibers even larger.. That cuts into the responsiveness of the muscle a little bit, and you’re a little slower than before.. In fact, Roy was a bit slower, just like the sports biologists draw it up.
Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
I am somewhat surprised but more concerned by Team Brook's decision to return to 147. I disagree with it, although I am excited about the fight itself.
Brook has a lot stacked against him here: the weight cut, recovery from multiple serious injuries / wear and tear, age. But he will have homefield.
I hope for a high level, competitive battle. Kudos to Brook for accepting another huge challenge and to Spence for crossing the pond hunting his prey.

Re: Brook confirms Spence fight on social media
Fans use Roy going down from HWT to 175 as an excuse for his KO losses - I don't buy it - Roy looked like he used steroids vs Ruiz - and after he beat Ruiz he ducked a chance to unify with Byrd -
