You got the Stuey Lithgow fight Eric? I know Stuey quote well he extended Bruno despite giving away loads of weight. Hard lad was Stuey and there was a bit of needle to that fight.

Yeah but brought along nicely, he didn't fight many dead bodies, bit like Ricky Hatton, there were a lot of good learning fights. Frank was always a great finisher.

Nice finds :TU:

Lithgow gets a long passage in Bruno's first book as a properly awkward/brave bugger who Bruno disliked but then grudingly respected as someone who was still there and fighting back back; despite being a beanpole heavyweight.

Would any of those bums last more than a round with Tyson, Lewis or Vitali at a similar stage? (With possible exception of Jumbo who almost kod Frank.)

All this nostalgic revisionist history that Bruno would've beaten Wlad, Joshua, Fury are a joke. I doubt he'd beat Charles Martin.

Bruno was a big, strong, heavy hitting klutz with poor footwork and a clumsy jab - just too big and strong for majority of his opponents.

Bruno was better than you are making out. He knocked out Chuck Gardner with a jab.

To be fair to him he fought well against Lewis until he got caught. he does not have many top wins on his record though. Coetzer? Bugner? McCall?

You don't think Frank Bruno would beat Charles Martin? Ridiculous.

He was actually outboxing Lewis, Lewis was struggling to cope with franks jab and right hand up until the finish, I would say that was one of Brunos best performances

Anyone whose best performances are when losing can't be very good... and as for mentioning Chuck Gardner as being a good win
Bruno's only meaningful win was McCall, who was seriously suffering drug problems and still almost beat Frank.

Coetzee was a spectacular and meaningful win, he was ranked and well regarded at the time. He was well ahead against Smith until the finish and gave a good account of himself against both Witherspoon and Lewis.

If AJ beats WK then I'm prepared to say that he's better than Bruno, if he doesn't then I rate Bruno the higher of the two.

Franks early fights were pretty laughable, he was obviously a massive talent, but his beloved manager terry lawless was terrified of his golden giant being upset, and the matchmaking was as cautious as it comes. Boxing news used to regularly critise the woeful mismatches.

To be fair he fought very often, and his first touted test was Winston Allen, who actually landed a decent punch, which was so unusual it made the back pages the next day..

The legendary Chuck Gardner of course, a very young F W***en was quoted the next day as saying his gardner could've beaten him.

Jesus it's a 12 round fight it doesn't matter who's winning after 6 rounds (it's like saying Tony Tubbs was out scoring mike Tyson until he was caught.) Besides 2 judges had it a draw, one had it for Bruno after 6 rounds but by then Bruno has shot his bolt.

I loved Bruno and he got me into boxing but when you see some of the fat buggers (inc skinny fat blokes) and stick men it's embarrassing.

Old Frank did great for British boxing but was a laughing stock in the USA.

And I'm kind of the opposite - Brits give him too much credit. I'll see if I can find a Bruno - Klitschko poll on boxrec for some data
