Brook vs Spence - do you expect the judges to be fair ?
Brook vs Spence - do you expect the judges to be fair ?
I have no dilemma - I will root for Spence. What do you think about judges/ref ? Do you expect hometown decision once again ? Should Spence KO Brook to win ? Can you imagine Spence's victory by decision ?
Re: Brook vs Spence - do you expect the judges to be fair ?
Depends what officials are appointed. A British football stadium can be very noisy for fight and that can sway the judges. Also we have some officials here who will favour the home fighter, but we have a few who are completely fair, really depends who gets appointed.
If any of the following are appointed, look out...
Terry O'Connor
Ian John Lewis
Phil Edwards
Dave Parris

It seems that the vast majority of those that frequent this forum consider any fight a “robbery” if their preferred fighter doesn’t gain the nod, even for evenly fought bouts where one point either way decides the winner.
So if the Brook-Spence contest is super-competitive, where there was no clear winner, it’s inevitable that there’ll be accusations of robbery, corruption, bribery and a general sense of outrage, regardless as to whoever wins.

I "expect" that Team Spence expects to stop Brook.

No, if Brook wins 4-5 rounds and is not dropped multiple times, he will get a decision.

I feel Spence will win clearly... After Kell built himself into a big Middleweight through intense weight training -- the weight will be a big issue.Enlightened-One wrote:It seems that the vast majority of those that frequent this forum consider any fight a “robbery” if their preferred fighter doesn’t gain the nod, even for evenly fought bouts where one point either way decides the winner.

Also, if you have corrupt judges exchanging signals and coordinating their scores -- by itching their nose or rubbing their forehead or whatever they're doing, just to rob a fighter by 1 point when the fight should have gone 4 points in the opposite direction -- that's how you get ridiculous decisions in major fights.
Kovalev fought his previous title defense in Russian and the Russian commission appointed a diverse group of 4 officials... None of whom was from Russia.

If Kell Brook isn't weight-drained, this fight will be a lot like Calzaghe-Lacy.
If he's at his best, Brook will clearly win every round. Maybe the ref will be merciful and stop the fight, like the ref should have in the Calzaghe-Lacy fight.

Worst refs are Jack Reiss, Laurence Cole as well as those you mentioned, especially Ian John Lewis.Flump wrote:

No and I say that as a Brit, we used to be very good in the past, if it's close Brook will get it.

I was very serious opening this post. We have seen a lot of bad decisions (mostly hometown decisions) on the highest level lately, so, to be honest I am ready to see the new robberies.

The only thing I worry about is Spence not stopping Brook. The way the judges scored him vs GGG before getting stopped should be a red flag. Every time Brook threw a punch there was a huge roar from the crowd, whether it landed or not. Spence doesn't seem worried though, so guess I shouldn't. His destiny is in his hands, and hopefully there will be no excuses from either side when it is done. I hope Spence is spending extra time on cutting off the ring, because he will be chasing Brook all night.

Jeez, you Yanks make me laugh.
First, you accused Brook of running scared of Spence.
Now that he's signed to fight defend his World title against him, you are complaiming about the judges...
Brook is the Champ, he deserves home advantage. Plain and simple.

I've got no complaints, just glad their fighting. Any ref can count to 10 or acknowledge a thrown towel. That's what awaits Brook in May.

I wouldn't think so Mr Saad.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I've got no complaints, just glad their fighting. Any ref can count to 10 or acknowledge a thrown towel. That's what awaits Brook in May.

I'm sure the Haymon team will make sure Spence is looked after. The examples you might give of judging in the UK being unfair don't involve such a well connected and potentially lucrative fighter as Errol Spence. The "always unfair in the UK" case is, so far as I remember, built on the unforgettable and unforgivable example of Burns-Beltran with a handful of less egregiously bad decisions over an 8 year period like Bellew-Chilemba I, Burns-Relikh arguably, Froch-Dirrell arguably... and what else am I forgetting? None of those who didn't get what they might have deserved were as high profile or "important" as Spence is coming into this fight.

If Brook decides to fight like he fought Golovkin, he gets stopped, but he could fight the same way he fought Porter and last 12 rounds.

We'll see, the weight cut and Errol's body work should be a nightmare on his legs. I'm shocked Kell is going back down..Crease wrote:And I like Spence - he's a real good fighter. I just think that Kell will outpoint hin.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I'm sure of it, and I like brook.
